NC State now using Legends jerseys with identical patch

Shouldnt take long to use these up.

You get a tad desperate for Legends on the gridiron. It's either that or put on a David Thompson or Chris Corchiani legends patch.

Maybe they're selling them now at Toys R Us... Dave? Dave?

Must upvote Cheech and Chong references!

Or Torry Holt, Bill Cowher, Philip Rivers, Mario Williams, Roman Gabriel. That's not a long list though.
According to the NFL HOF site, Northwest Mississippi Community College has one more NFL HOFer than NC State.
That's sad.

If you're a Lions fan, you eventually get Stephen Tulloch out of this, although it's hard to call a 4th round pick who ended his most recent pro season with an injury sustained in a celebration a "legend" just yet unless NC State broadens the definition, well, quite a bit.
So, yeah, the list by conventional definitions is pretty damn short for them.

"It's either that or put on a David Thompson or Chris Corchiani legends patch."
That would be hilarious. Can you IMAGINE putting a basketball player, no matter how good he was, on a football uniform?
August 17th, 2015 at 5:05 PM ^
You had to go there, seriously.

Among their "Honored" basketball numbers is the #80 of the late Bobby Speight, Wilton's grandfather. He was an All-American, and scored more than 1400 pts and grabbed more than 1000 boards in the early 1950's. Two-handed jersey numbers look so weird to me in college basketball.

A Huggy Bear beats a Snoop Dog any day.

Funny thing is I don't even remember him being particularly impressive at NC State, it's funny that NC State wants to claim him as a "Wolfpack Legend" when he really improved in his last year at Wisconsin.
August 17th, 2015 at 5:34 PM ^
Yes, he was good but not "legendary." And kind of difficult when your "legend" transfers to another school.
August 17th, 2015 at 7:41 PM ^
They fucking ran Wilson out of town for wanting to play baseball and now they have a Wilson legends patch?
Definitely WTF territory...
August 17th, 2015 at 7:53 PM ^
as motivation for the player not to get hit there.

Wow, you've got to be kidding. That looks identical to the ones we had, down to the last detail. Looks like we've started a trend and ditched it before it even got going.
August 17th, 2015 at 4:57 PM ^
Yeah, like I said, almost an identical copy. Only difference is "Wolfpack Legend" instead of "NC State Legend". Edit: Couldn't we have copyrighted the patch, just in case we wanted to go back to it at some point down the road?
August 17th, 2015 at 5:35 PM ^
We should not bring back what most thought was a bad idea, and it will also remind people of David Brandon. No one wants a yellow halo anymore either around the stadium.

Cracks me up that they are claiming Russell Wilson as theirs when they ran him out of town by telling him he couldn't play baseball if he wanted to be on the football team!
I'm starting grad school at NCSU in three days but I'm having a hard time giving a damn about NCSU athletics. At least there's a bball game in December which I'm excited about attending...

Mathematics.
And my classes are all Tues/Thurs so it's 3 days for me.

Did a grad school stint at NC St., too. I rarely attended athletic events, except for free hoops tickets to see NC St play UNC in Chapel Hill. My passions were not stirred enough to justify it. Televised Michigan games were always the priority, and were fun to watch with the local UM alum crowd! Raleigh and the RTP region were generally nice, especially the extended spring and fall seasons.

So bold that they're claiming Wilson. Also...who else is there?

True but I don't think we would ever nominate them for legends patches. C'mon man.
August 17th, 2015 at 5:12 PM ^
Philip Rivers was pretty good. I cannot tihnk of anyone else.
August 17th, 2015 at 7:47 PM ^
Torry Holt
Mario Williams
Roman Gabriel
Ted Brown (Vikings 80s)
Jim Richter (Bills in 4 Super Bowl Appearances/Losses)
Of interest:
Erik Kramer
Stephen Tulloch

You know... there are a lot of people on here who neg WD simply for being a compulsively passionate Michigan fan.
I also heard this saying about how people hate most in others what they see in themselves.
I'm not saying the two are related, but I'm also not arguing that there aren't a bunch of hypocrites lurking around here either.

Valid point and upvote, but not sure why you brought this up right now in this thread because as of this minute he has no downvotes in this thread.
August 17th, 2015 at 6:36 PM ^
At the time it was 0/-1. I guess I based it as much off of recent history.
August 17th, 2015 at 4:33 PM ^
Wilson was pretty good but not amazing at NC State. He really bloomed at Wisconsin. Sad if he qualifies as a legend for them.
August 17th, 2015 at 4:34 PM ^
Is that a copyright symbol?
August 17th, 2015 at 4:42 PM ^
It's an asterisk, in the fine print it says:
"We copied this terrible idea from Michigan who has since terminated the concept"
August 17th, 2015 at 4:34 PM ^
August 17th, 2015 at 4:38 PM ^
Because it was such a rousing success at Michigan?
August 17th, 2015 at 4:40 PM ^
As far as noteable players I came up with were: Torry Holt, Koren Robinson, Mike Glennon, Stephen Tulloch, Mario Williams and Wilson if you include him. Other than that.....
August 17th, 2015 at 4:41 PM ^
In the article, it says they'll eventually be using Mario Williams' #9.
They gave #16 to a freshman because he plays baseball like Wilson did...

through the grapevine (aka the blog) you're recovering from appendectomy. I am as well.
