Let the comments commence. I am rooting against Calipari.
NC Game Open Thread
Rooting for the meteor
I was rooting for the meteor.
Now I'm rooting for the comet.
Why do we hate uconn that much? Their coach Ollie seems reasonable. They beat Sparty. I absolutely despise calipari so I really have no problem rooting for uconn.
by an adequate amount in football. Or was that us? I can't remember. It's foggy.
Their players don't even go to class. This was a team that was banned from the tournament last year due to APR
Ostensibly, Ollie seems like a decent guy. Jim Calhoun was a miserable, old douche and yet the media loved him, just like Jim Boeheim.
I wish there was an underdog to root for this year
I'm glad that one of our rivals isn't in this game. A uconn win is the best possible outcome if Michigan isn't going to win.
Can both lose?
That was a helluva a dunk
having to watch msu and ohio for the B10 Champ in football but damn.
I feel like I should be there rooting for my team tonight.
I wish I was in Lexington tonight. It's gonna be a crazy night there
In the other NC game it will be undefeated UConn vs undefeated Notre Dame in the Women's game. That may be more exciting than this one.
Jesus people. Can we stop with the Caiipari hatred. The NCAA found NO, I repeat NO, violations on his part at UMass or Memphis. One idiot hired an agent while in college and another idiot had someone else take his college entrance exam while still in high school. With that said, Go Cats!
And I have an eight foot penis.
Stay out of the posbangs!
lasting more than four hours
Ah yes, because when your past two stops had to vacate a large number of wins they accumulated while you were at the helm, it was totally random and absolutely not tied to the coach.
Enjoy your MNC while you can.
Neither did Pete Carroll, funny they both got out of town before sanctions hit.
it's nauseating to me when people don't remember what Sneaky Pete is all about.
Well, no, Calipari wasn't found to have personally delivered pre-game prostitutes to Camby's hotel room.
And he didn't personally take D. Rose's SAT. Which was probably good news for Rose.
Fergodsakes, people, even the dirtiest coaches have fixers to take care of the dirty work. Well, except for Dave Bliss.
the most delusional comment I have ever read on this Board. Congrats/
If Kentucky wins, then the terrorists have won.
uconn got fouled. no call
If Kentucky wins this, I may have to shoot somebody.
That didn't look like a back court violation.
No way that was a shooting foul.
Good start for UConn
This game is great for college basketball. A team that was academically ineligible for the tournament last year vs. The Best Team Money Can Buy. Great. Just great.
If Uconn wins, does a power conference come calling?
Kentucky recruits some of the same players as us (ex. Devin Booker). Therefore, I want Kentucky to lose. Nuff said.
to handle Kentucky. It's early but UConn has two blocks at the rim and forced two other errant shots down low. UConn is faster on the break also.
Go UCONN Fightin' Napiers!
Already on a few possessions, we've had the chance to see Kentucky in its "HUHWUT?" defense, but any moment where a Calipari team looks as if they are out of their element is a win for America. Also, thus far, let's talk a little about guard play - advantage Connecticut so far. Very nice indeed.
that was a sick move by boatwright.
If your going to lose you may as well lose to the eventual champ.
Whoever wants Calipari to win is a poor human being in my opinion.
I think this was the weakest year for CBB in a long time.
its called parity
do you think Napier will be? I just love the guy's game. He is so smooth and quick.
Brandon Jennings jacking 3's from the parking lot.
I think he is leaps and bounds more skilled than burke. better ball handler, better decision maker, and quicker. Only thing is he doesn't shoot well but Burke is struggling fg pct wise this year whereas Shabazz will be able to still get the shot he wants in the NBA
I don't know that there's such a thing as a better ballhandler than Trey, and I don't think Shabazz will ever be as strong as Trey.
Shabazz is awesome, and definitely quicker, though.
Andrew Harrison is constantly throwing up out of control shots at the rim and getting bailed out by his bigs with the putbacks.
that's good offense though. they have to come over and help or else he would get a good look and it is so hard to rotate to the backside in time when you have the athletes that Kentucky has.
I'm so sick of that chris webber commercial
that the topic of the commercial is Chris Webber asking for free stuff.
I'd rather see that than any commercial with Grant Hill.
Presented without comment.
That Chris Webber commercial is starting to annoy me as if it was Christian Laettner.
Seriously that's what I said! How many times r they gonna play that! Fckin annoying
Not sure how to post tweets on here, but Rex Chapman just tweeted that win or lose tonight, Calipari is going to the Lakers next year.
That deserves its own thread.
Wow these refs suck. That was clearly off of Kentucky.
I expect to make their run soon enough.
I am impressed by UCONN.
I hate coach Cal
I hate Chris WEbber BurgerKing commercials..
I like basketball even when we lose.
However, I've sold UConn short all tournament.
I just turned it on and I'm not happy about GERG Anthony announcing this game.
Napier reminds me of Trey. Great at the pick and roll.
I love the way the UConn guards play. So good
So KY has already missed as many 3s as they did the entire game against M. Where were those bricklayers when we needed them?
I despise Kentucky so much, but it just feels like they are going to find a way to win this game.
I have that same feeling as well.
When the refs call the game even Kentucky gets owned. Shocked.
Here come the refs.
I spoke to soon....CBS seems pumped that UK is starting to play better
Kentucky always does this shit. Come back late in the half, then ride that momentum to the end. smh
Has Jim Nance commented yet that MSU would be in this game if it weren't for their injuries?
Not yet, I bet it is coming. Only mention of MSU so far has been how Napier drained lots of 3s on them.
Go into the half behind, and then come out making ridiculous threes from all over the place.
Kentucky on a run. Shoot me now.
UConn is just giving this away.
Napier has made some shots but taken some bad ones also. Need better shot selection. I do like the defense.
Nanz is awful. UCONN clearly calls a TO there but he still thinks Kentucky gets it with the tie up.
If UConn can get this to at least 9 by half, that'll be good
Why is UCONN trying to take it inside? Ollie is an awful coach
These foul calls are weak.
This game reminds me of the game last year.
kentucky owns the end of the 1st half...
I think I've seen this movie before.
It's becoming more apparent to me that Kentucky is not going to lose this game. This is just flat out destiny here. They completely underachieved all season, barely looked NIT worthy, and somehow miraculously came together in time for the tournament. Not to mention winning their last 3 games in the closing seconds on 3 point shots that they typically never make.
Damn you, Calipari. I can't even begin to fathom the kind of havoc you'll wreak on college basketball if the one and done rule is lifted.
This has probably been beaten to death, but why not James Young to Michigan?
Because he wasn't offered
He said michigan was never on his list. He said he was more of an msu guy, so we had no chance in getting him. Better Kentucky than msu I guess
That's like me saying Alyssa Ambrosio was never on my list.
I think there was an issue with grades that caused Michigan and MSU not to offer.
I heard that as well. Lots of school were not sure if he was going to qualify, but I guess Kentucky found a way to get him in.
He's probably a 4.0 student at Kentucky. I heard someone was during the Wisconsin game.
after the first 12 minutes of play.
We're watching a national championship game and an announcer is talking about the maturity being shown on the court because a Kentucky player actually passed the ball to another Kentucky player.
And, to give them credit, they've actually got as many assists as turnovers. Don't think that's happened all tournament.
Is it true that not one Kentucky starter has a foul?
if they were more deadly in transition.
Kentucky's big athletes make transition buckets challenging, but if you could have substitued Michigan players for every one of UConn's fast breaks, the lead would be 12-14.
UConn's bigs are so offensively challenged, and that also really hurts them on the break.
Or rather go UCONN for five reasons that have nothing to do with them:
1. Fab Five is ours and I want it to stay that way.
3. The Borg that is the SEC - rooting for a conference instead of a team.
5. One and dones.
is hogging the fucking couch.
I'm sitting here wedged in on the side because she is freaking sprawled out in right in the damn center.
First foul by a Kentucky starter. Lawl
Kentucky got through the first half without a single starter being whistled for a foul. How is that even possible?
than the women you will see down low tomorrow night. Frustrating.
UCONN bigs are awful. I mean really freaking awful.
Calling James Young "Jimmy Buckets" makes me wanna throw up
What is Caulie-Stein wearing? It's the National Championship game and he looks like a scrub. I'm so glad that Michigan's guys look respectable and wear suits when they are injured.
There is a decent chance the guy can't even spell his last name. What else do you expect from a dork wearing those glasses?
UConn is losing their confidence.
UCONN showing why they are a 7
player to get rebound and ends in layup. Cool.
how bad their bigs are.
They throw passes to them as though those guys have offensive skills.
Those kids are trying hard, but they have trouble with stuff like catching the ball.
Gary Busey commercial again. Gold, Jerry, Gold!
will start calling everything in UK favor once we head down the stretch!
but that was a terrible call
That call on Poythress. The worst call of the tournament?
CBS pissed an offensive foul was called on Kentucky lol.
dammit, UConn guards, KYP - your big men can't handle that shit.
where's that fucking talking bench when you need it?
Neither team is playing good enough to win.
I think Jim Nantz has money on UK in this one.
than Horford. Fuck.
Good call by the ref on Harrison for sliding in there.
UCONN needs to stop giving their bigs the ball
UK sucks at foul shots.
Nice response UConn.
steal by Boatright - draws another foul on the kid which is good, but also nothing bad happened with Napier out and they made it to the under 12 timeout.
That pass. Lol
Momentum slowly shifting back to UCONN?
that was freaking intense.
What a dunk !!!!!!!!
nice job, CBS.
If you breath on a Kentucky player it is a foul
Kentucky's indispensible man.
This foul situation is a fucking joke.
Well that Boatwright injury might be the game.
that might have just been a momentary shock to the joint. I hope.
fouled James Young on that drive. How does UK and their freshman get "veteran calls".
said no one, ever
I said before the game that Aaron Harrison must have made a deal with the devil to keep hitting these last second 3's..it seems the devil is finding his way into the game in other ways now.
In order for UConn to win Napier has to take over right now.
UConn gone cold shooting.
Napier gets hacked. No call. I hate College Basketball
as a team is incapable of fouling.
U Conn needs to find one more wind. Come on, Huskies
Why are these announcers in the tank for Kentucky? I thought the team specific broadcasts were on Saturday.
An OT note. The Kentucky chicks are fat as hell
I refuse to believe that all these blocked shots came with no fouls.
that girl's white teeth in the Bud Light commercial, considering how many packs of cigarettes she goes through on an average day.
Of course Greg Anthony doesn't think that jump ball was a good call..
arguing that it was a good call
right there by UConn's big.
Giffey got away with a little something on Young there, too
Randle stands there and fouls get called on UConn for breathing his air.
missed foul shots.
Under 4 minutes now so the game should end by midnight...maybe
but he did get the hand in, dammit
Just bull rush the rim. Throw up crap and get bailed put by the ref or a put back dunk.
This is one hell of a game.
One hell of a street fight. Waiting for another Harrison 3 to win it.
UCONN - 16 fouls
UK - 8 fouls
Hang on UConn.
Wow, UK seems to always get a ton of calls from refs.
Giffey grazes his hand on that dunk. Such one way calling.
There's the UK offense we know and love..chuck it at the backboard and crash the glass.
I know we lost last year but that game was far more entertaining than this one, and a much better display of skill. This is supposed to be for the national championship?? So sloppy. Makes it hurt even more that we're not here. UM-MSU or Wisc-MSU are both much better games than this one right now.
msu would turn the game into a football game
Damn we should be playing in this game. We had Kentucky beat damnit.
We are easily one of the top two teams.
Well, we had them tied at least.
that's a foul
36% in 3 point land tonight. 29% vs Louisville, 40% vs Wiscy, 65% vs. Michigan. But Harrison is probably saving one more for later...
And damn they missed a clear foul on Boatright
Kentucky guards reaching in like crazy on that last possession.
Blatant grab in front of ref and Ollie. No call.
Harrison just got away with atleast 3 reach-ins, missed a shot, and then a great OB.
Just hold on
I wad expecting an And-1 bullshit call on that last possession and I'm glad Gifey didn't give a reason to call a foul and Randle missed a short one. It's still far from over, unfortunately.
He's better than Barkley when he was at Auburn.
Even though UK is in double bonus, they suck at FT. Foul them !!!!!!!!!!!!!
Ollie is in the damn box and he touches him!
And Izzo and fucking Crean
Daniels had a chance at that wide-open 3. Have to hit that.
They've played 40 games. Stop playing the Freshman card.
Make these dude.
to rack up a win??
those tournament FT numbers are UNREAL. that is ridiculous. story of their whole run.
On the flip side, just another reason to have been be irked if Kentucky would have won, in regards to their piss-poor FT shooting.
That was some dumb ass coaching
But...but he's questionably one of the best coaches in the country according to media people...
Suck a dick, Kentucky.
Thank you UConn
Yay. I win $80 fucking dollars. I'm so happy....
Fuck You Kentucky, glad you lost
That was unsightly.
I need to watch a video of last year's NC game to clense my eyes.
Make sure you turn it off with about 2:00 left in the first half.
We lost, but we played a good game. Nothing to hide,
Nothing like tonight's dumbfest.
Calipari is such a shitty coach. Blew the entire final two minutes basically
And UConn needed OT to get out of their first matchup... the wonder of the tourney
One Shining Moment
"That's a wrap!"
Our game against Louisville was 1 billion times better. That makes me feel good. Oh, and why could we not have played that Kentucky team?
Fuck Calipari and Kentucky.
Can't believe they lost by 40 3 weeks ago.
Everyone who had UConn in your pre-tournament bracket raise your hand. Liers !!!!
before this Final Four is vacated? About 10 yrs or until UK stops being an NCAA cash cow.
Don't vacate games where the loser was found in violation. Actually would be more of a statement in favor of UCONN.
were all losing efforts as well. You don't have to win the title to be sent on vacation.
If you believe the Calipari to the Lakers rumor on the other thread, it'll be sooner rather than later.
UConn, the lesser criminal, wins.
What an awful final
This is why you shouldn't be the dumbass that goes out and gets one of these before the game is even played.....
Honestly this guy got lucky they made it. At least he can tweak the ink to have it make somewhat sense. Maybe put a little Homer Simpson underneath saying "Doh!"
Yes, but he got way closer to being a prophet than any of us ever will! But close and tattoos = life long regret
Even if they'd won tonight I wouldn't call him a "prophet" or a "genius." I'd still call him a dumbass. I even think the Seahawks fan who got his own tattoo prediction was a dumbass. He just got plain old lucky.
You'd have to guess that this is probably not his first, nor last, life-altering fuckup.
Attening Kentucky was probably the first
At least we dominate UConn in football.
Tomorrow night the lady Huskies go for an undefeated season and National Championship. Wow.
Yeah we really dominated them in football! Showed them who was boss that's for sure!!
"Dominate" is an interesting description of whatever it was we did.
and back out of the room slowly?
Congrats UConn! Seeing them celebrate makes me hope and pray that some michigan team, football or basketball, wins it all soon, very soon! We haven't celebrated that in a longgg time :(
recent NBA player, NC in his first year, UConn's tradition, oh my
Not his first year.
he's still going to have total hand when he walks into a living room.
but it won't pass bc it makes sense. If a coach leaves to another school and his previous school gets sanctions bc of what happened when he was there; he should have a show cause until sanctions are over.
didn't want Wisky to win, UConn winning was my only acceptable scenario in this FF.
Oh, and FUCK Kentucky and their fucking entitled fans. They are a bunch of shitheads. Really terrible.
The best player on the floor got only 7 shots and had 0 fouls? 10 points and 6 rebs for Randle...did UK even go to him?
I don't think he would have been anyway, but he hurt himself celebrating the win Saturday night, didn't have his usual mobility and missed stretches of the first half because of it.
You're thinking of Poythress. Randle supposedly had cramps. It's amazing that UK can only get him the ball outside the 3pt line so that he has to drive for everything he gets.
You're right, thanks.
Randle hurt himself landing on Kaminsky's foot.
UConn did a good job of bringing help every time he started to drive, but he still should have been more aggressive.
Emmert just shit a brick - Napier just crapped on the apr thing, sorta hard not to laugh
I missed it, what happened?
Turns heel. Nantz is clueless.
They were an AAU school, complete the New York market along with Rutgers and B1G basketball would gain one more notch in the murderers row of college basketball schools and conferences.
was about as AAU as it gets.
Oh, wait. You mean....
Association of American Universities.
0.1% of the entries had Albany as the champion.
You have to do something to distinguish your bracket. If you picked Florida and they won you'd be in a pile with 3 million other people. If you picked Connecticut you're now pretty much guaranteed to be in the top 1% and make the drawings.
Jim Nantz: "Shabazz, you were just named the FF MVP"
Shabazz: "Where's my car?"
what a terrible decision - reset the 35 second clock - that was pretty fatal.
Glad UCONN won. Fuck Kentucky. Fuck Calipari. That's what you get for beating our team with your bullshit lucky 3 pointer.
just had half a tatty hanging out interviewing Calipari.
Calipari makes it all about him. If they win it's because of what he did. If they lose it's because of him. No credit to the other team whatsoever
Does anyone really believe UConn is the best team in the country? Sometimes I hate college basketball.
They could be. They beat MSU, Florida and Kentucky.
Who is better as of today?
UConn lost 6 games in a shitty conference. Nobody will ever convince me they are deserving of being called "National Champion."
Michigan lost 6 games in the Big Ten in 1989. I guess you don't call them National Champions? Michigan had 6 losses in 2013 so I guess if they beat Lousiville you wouldn't have called them National Champions?
Well if you are going to completely ignore my qualifier of being in a shitty conference, I have no interest in what you have to say.
from a shitty conference. Not saying UConn is the best team, but that does happen. Conference strength =/= has to have the best team in the country.
So how would you determine a national champion in college basketball? The 1989 team finished 3rd in the Big 10. If the Fab Five won the tournament would they have been the champs? They never won the Big 10. Last years team finished 4th in the Big 10.
Uconn was a preseason top 25 team and a 7 seed in the tournament. They finished 3rd in their conference and 2 of their losses were to Louisville and one to Cinncinnati which was ranked #7 at the time. Your arguments make no sense. They are the Champs.
They could be. They beat MSU, Florida and Kentucky.
Who is better as of today?
They don't hand out the CBB Championship with a poll.
They won it. The end.
Yes, they won 6 games in a single elimination tournament that's an extremely shitty way to determine a champion in a sport with enormously high variability. I'm not disputing that they in fact won it. I'm saying it doesn't make them the best team in the country, and this is yet another reason why college football is vastly superior to college basketball.
I cannot imagine thinking an MNC is better than the greatest freaking tournament on Earth.
To each their own, but you just seem so unnecessarily sour. It's not like fucking Sparty won.
Well I am a little sour. I think it's BS that a team with a mediocre regular season and a record of academic achievement so poor that they couldn't even participate in last year's tournament wins a title. It's absurd. And to win it, they beat a coach who has put every program he's been at on probation. I'm sick of watching dirty programs win championships year after year.
Then don't watch if it bothers u that much
Yes, right now they could beat anyone in the country.
Lol cal's got a little humor in him...
And a lot of arrogance in him.
with Napier saying "FUCK THE APR" lol
thought they gave us pretty damn solid coverage in OSM
Wisky got a little short changed, not that I care.
Also hard to believe UConn has 4 national championship since 99. Respect.
How can you respect a program that doesn't even attempt to educate players?
Kentucky never lead for even one second of the game.
they never got over the hump, and thank goodness. I don't know if they're stopping them if they ever got the lead.
The jackass known as Steven A Smith claims Kentucky blew it. Hard to blow it when you NEVER have the lead. I hate the media. MSU fans bitching they got shut out of OSM, did they?
but the UConn kids hung really tough - all credit to them.
Thing. Only MSU person that I saw was Izzo walking into the arena. a) ha, they made the G8 and didn't get anyone in and b) why the face? do they show him doing nothing. Every other coach was shown celebrating/ consoling with his players
so it was pretty appropriate, lol.
...is like complaining about the crappy hamburger you got at Burger King.
that would be extra impressive. I think they already have a men's /women's NC double. Not really rooting for UConn but they play ND and I find it hard to root for them in anything.
picked UConn at the beginning of the tourney, I bought her a cool UConn shirt when she was 12 and she's like then since - mainly because of their mascot. Told her it was a crazy pick... should have put some money on her pick!
