“The player development is the main thing I like (about Michigan),” Williams said. “You can see that they develop their players. They get them in the gym and they work them hard. And their hard work pays off.”
NBA Draft Open Thread (Not OT - Yay!)
I'm kind of not so secretly hoping for a Michigan double dip draft for the Pistons. Both guys probably won't fall to those spots though.
I feel like all of the talk about Trey slipping to 14 or whatever is just a bunch of smoke from some team (maybe even the Pistons) hoping to poison the well on him a little bit so he falls a few extra spots.
Burke drafted by pelicans
THJ drafted by Jazz
I made a bet with my friend about Trey's draft spot at about the midpoint of the season. We set the over/under at 7 and I took the over (meaning his pick will be worse than 7).
It was only 50 bucks, so this is a bet I'd happily lose. That said, the Pistons taking him at 8 would be a win/win for me (and make the loss easier on my buddy since he's a Pistons fan too).
In a sane and rational world there is no way he falls to 8, but the NBA operates on an entirely different plane of existence.
There is no way the Pelicans should pass up on him. He would be perfect to run pick and rolls with Brow for the next 15 years, and could revitalize Eric Gordon's career.
The Kings have been parading out a myriad of point guard-like substances for the past few seasons with no real point guard. If they want DeMarcus Cousins to realize his ridiculous potential they need someone who can get him the ball in his spots.
I'm banking on both of those teams continuing to be ridiculously stupid though.
What time does the draft start??
7:30 ET so most likely first pick come out around 7:35-7:40.
Thank you. I should make it in time to see Trey go to Orlando!
I think Mgrowold had said it in the earlier thread, but is Cleveland seriously considering Alex Len with the 1st pick?? They need a wing like Porter, or a more athletic rim protector in Noel (assuming he'll be healthy enough).
Hopefully a real Detroit sports hero we can be proud of
If Burke wearing #3 means Rodney Stuckey is outta here then YES PLEASE
Exactly. Getting Stuckey out is a bigger priority to me as well. A double-win.
Fake. Shoulders are too wide!!
Jalen Rose draft suit sighting.
I wish this were OT.
I'm really happy for Trey and Tim, they are going to accopmplish what they have been working for.
Sure, they could have stayed.
But it's been OT for longer than this blog has been around because the players weren't good enough to make it on-topic. I'd choose this over that.
Hate the NBA but would watch more if Pistons landed Burke. If he goes to some random team with no shot of anything (that isn't Detroit) I will continue to not care about a league of roughly 30 teams where only 3-4 have a legit title shot and you can go .400 and make the playoffs to get swept. Drafts always weak or pointless post top 10 and the lottery system is moronic. Hope Burke lands in Detroit.
Burke at #8...then trade their two 2nd round picks to get into the bottom of the First Round to get Tim Hardaway, Jr. BOOM! HOMERED!
Good luck Trey and THJr I know you will do well.
Burke to New Orleans and Hardaway Jr. to Indiana is what I am hoping for. The Pelicans need a PG that isn't Vasquez or Rivers and the Pacers need a SG to go along with Lance Stephenson. Ryan Anderson and Eric Gordon would allow Burke to be the third scorer and when worst comes to worst he can just throw it up to Davis. The Pacers would provide Hardaway some solid minutes off the bench on championship contender.
BOO!!! David Stern BOOOO!!!!
What a send-off for Stern. lol
is funny. Well deserved too
Stern is in full Vince McMahon mode tonight. The commish is going out with a bang!
Gary Bettman dreams of getting a response that kind.
Is there any chance that Bettman takes over for Stern?
Going for front court depth is an unrealistic option here? Supposing all the players we are targeting are gone, and assuming say, Zeller for example is sitting there (also assuming Zeller is a big you'd draft if you needed a big), would it be a sin to take Zeller?
Anthony Bennett 1st overall?!? Interesting...
LOL WUT? We are in for a helluva draft, boys.
I like it.
Biggest draft shocker of all time?
Here is last year's boofest - it is uncanny how similar it was to what just happened, right down to the wording of the speech to a certain extent. It's almost too bad, this could be an interesting ritual....
Oh, and did anyone see Anthony Bennett coming? Did Anthony Bennett see that coming?
Wow. Did not see that coming.
sooooo that happened.....
So that's what watching millions of dollars disappear from your future bank account looks like...
Cleveland just blew everyone's mind
this gif always deserves an upvote
Not a bad pick. Trade or not.
It's really not that bad. No safe bets high in this draft. I would have gone with Porter maybe or McLemore but I'm not sure about Noel.
Noel could fall quite a ways here.
Dan Gilbert is my hero LoL Anybody that insane is cool with me
Never saw that coming. Almost dumbfounded. But he will be a solid player IMO
This is like watching Susan Lucci at the Daytime Emmys.
As bad as I can feel for a guy who will be a multi-millionaire in a few minutes.
That's the class of the Michigan program
AAAAAND Chad Ford is right on the money as usual.
