National Championship Game Open Thread

Submitted by M-Wolverine on

Well, it'll probably be a short thread, since everyone has already said they're not watching tonight. But for those that are, it's the end of college football on the field for awhile. Gameday on. Pregame in about half an hour.  It'll keep us busy till the Two and a Half Men Open thread starts later tonight.

That stat about the LSU drives basically resulting in 35 yards of offense says all you need to know about (if you are an SEC homer) how great the defenses in the conference are, or (if you are a realist) just how bad the offenses can be.

And for the record, the first half of UM's game against VT, a game that I saw people say "set back football", had about 3 times the offense and that included an unexpected injury to Molk to start the game.

I never felt that Oregon was in the groove that game because it was the first match-up of the year between those two teams, but right now I definitely feel like they could move the ball on them.  With WVU, I think that the Orange bowl was a bit of an abberation - this was an average team that had a million breaks go for them in that game.

Which is pretty good. Wisc put up 45 though, NW 24, Houston 30.

Alabama had 359 total yards and forced 3 turnovers.  They scored a 52 and a 50 yard field goal.  Their longest TD drive was 69 yards.  Penn St defense was inflated due to the teams they played.  Bama's offense isn't that good, their defense is just great and sets up the offense.

You mean the PSU that had a "QB controversy" in the sense that neither QB could move the ball, turned it over deep in their own territory, and generally fell apart.

Yes, these are good defenses, but only ESPN believes that it is unstoppable.

Oops sorry, switching back and forth with Andromeda Strain.  I already know what happens there as well.  Although the book and the movie had different endings; here's hoping the regular season and postseason have different endings.

But my dream is Hoke and Mattison building the closest facsimile to this as possible without signing 20 defenders every year and cutting the worst ten.

Alabama couldn't have had it go any better in the first half. Now they'll run the shit out of Richardson in the second half to keep LSU off the field. Genius game all around by the Alabama staff.

What is average age of this thread. Can't believe how many Michigan fans apparently seemingly have no appreciation for defense whatsoever. As I said if we could play D like this we would be ecstatic.
