National Championship Game Open Thread

Submitted by M-Wolverine on

Well, it'll probably be a short thread, since everyone has already said they're not watching tonight. But for those that are, it's the end of college football on the field for awhile. Gameday on. Pregame in about half an hour. It'll keep us busy till the Two and a Half Men Open thread starts later tonight.

Even though I said I might watch some of this game, I can't help but wonder if the "Antiques Roadshow Open Thread" for the PBS nuts like myself wouldn't get quite a bit more action.

No, I will tune in for a while anyway, I bet - I admit to that. It's football. I'll discover the value of the old stuff in my house tomorrow.

I'll watch it, but it is going to be an SEC slurp fest like you've never heard. I know we lost to USC and Ohio lost to Florida, but at that time we were the number 1 and number 2 teams in America, so I don't get the whole rematch thing now when we didn't have one in 2006.

That's actually pretty cheap. If I remember correctly during the first matchup there were students able to turn their $10 dollar ticket into $10,000+ because of the ridiculous demand.

Granted that was for certain tickets but still I think the average was pretty high too.

 • It's the last college football game for about 8 months
 • It's a game between two amazing teams
 • Both teams will be putting the most effort possible into this game
 • Me not watching will prove absolutely nothing and make absolutely no difference
 • It's the NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP

So yes, I'm watching.

I'd be willing to bet at least half the people who said they aren't watching that game tonight will have it on. They're probably putting together the nachos right now.

I will watch it for 3 reasons:

Last college football game for a while.

I hate Saban and want him to be crushed.

I love good defenses and good defensive battles.

Not to detract from their accomplishments because I think both defenses are good but there's something to be said for the lack of offensive ability by either team. Most SEC offenses aren't that good either. Some people last time saw a "defensive battle". Alabama can't move the ball through a wet paper bag. AJ McCarron is awful. You stop Richardson, you stop them.

They're #12 and #17 respectively in scoring offense. Obviously some of that ranking is because they're allowing about 20ppg between them, but that's not exactly bad.

The SEC teams are really good, whether you like it or not. There's a reason they have a really strong showing every bowl season, regardless of why you think they are good.

The over-signing NC game. Over the past 4 years Bama has signed 113 players and LSU 105. Even with the mass amount of RRods attrition we've only signed 93. The ess eee see isn't better, they just play by different rules.

If the game is still on around 11 when I'm done playing, I might watch some of it. I hate both teams just as much as I hate Ohio and shitty coffee.

Why are people not watching? Just because your team's not in it or what? It's the national championship between two very good teams, I see no reason why a real football fan wouldn't want to watch this game.

that the best way to get attention to what a farce an SEC rematch is would be by having low ratings. The best we can do is not watch. It also satisfies a little place in the gut that's been taking it from ESPN about the SEC for years. I'm done with that and speaking out by my absence. And I don't feel like I'm missing out on a thing by it.

Geaux Tigers.

Rooting for the Mad Hatter and his Michigan roots. Also, hoping to see Saban's robot-like visage crumble when Les beats him yet again.

I said I wouldn't watch it, but I think my love of college football will overtake my hate of the SEC slurpfest by ESPN. I won't get any more college football until the end of August so I need my fix.

I'm watching it because it is the last college football game of the year, but most importantly i hope that this game is a pathetic as it was the first time they played(link). The stats don't lie.

Keep in mind the team that wins this game will probably have to win it the way Michigan did against VT.

why the BCS championship is on a Monday. Do they not want people to watch? Maybe keep ticket prices gone? At least it connects to a weekend, but seriously, Tuesday is probably the only worse day
