Narduzzi to USC rumors (edit: DEBUNKED)
Correction
Its called a royale with cheese
Upon assembling all the evidence, it seems obvious to me that there are only two conceivable explanations:
1) DB/Hoke think there is absolutely nobody better than Al Borges. I suppose it's not impossible for someone to think this, but it's a longshot.
2) Athletic Department money is better spent on a 40 million dollar facility for rowing or some kind of highfalutin billboard in a parking lot. I'm pretty sure this is it.
Dave Brandon makes me sad.
According to his twitter account he was in LA on January 3rd for a "recruiting trip"
Narduzzi to SC would be a slight blow to MSU, Dantonio is the man behind the MSU curtain isn't he? Who would be hired after Narduzzi? Any leftover OSU coaches from Tress?
Denard Robinson......They're not going to catch him!
Mike Tressel? He's currently the LB's & Special Teams coach. He's Jim Tressel's nephew.
Disagree. This would be a huge blow to their football program. Losing the person responsible for the one bright spot (defense) of your team while simultaneously losing your best recruiter is about the worst thing that could happen. It's also another clear signal to that fanbase that MSU is simply a stopgap for good coaches.
I got the shotgun. You got the briefcase. It's all in the game though, right?
Best recruiter, I'll give you that....Dantonio is responsible for their defensive prowess.
Denard Robinson......They're not going to catch him!
He also is following Lane Kiffin on Twitter. If he didn't get the job, he certainly is a strong candidate.
This has a familiar ring to it. Almost one year to the day, this article was posted about his flirtations with Texas A&M:
http://espn.go.com/blog/bigten/post/_/id/43358/msu-passes-big-test-in-ke...
Is he going to leverage this into just another raise with MSU? This was Dantonio's quote from the article linked:
"Mark Hollis had already identified the financial resources to make sure that not only Pat, but all of our assistant coaches, had salaries that are competitive in the Big Ten."
Something else that I haven't seen mentioned in the posts above is that Dantonio was a DC at Ohio State before going to Cincinnati. I think their defense will still be okay, even if Narduzzi leaves. However, I thought their defense was going to take a step back next year anyway.
I don't think their defense would ever be terrible on a Mark Dantonio coached team, as he was a MNC Defensive Coordinator at Ohio. Where it will hurt the most is in recruiting. He is an above average recruiter and MSU doesn't have a lot of those.
Dantonio's requirements for new DC candidates:
- must respond well to eternal scowling
- can wash Lord Izzo's car
- strong knowledge of area correctional facilities
- strive for consistent mediocrity
- recruit well in Canada
- can bring Rich Rod back to Michigan

Bye bye Bullough and Dennard if he goes to USC.
This seems odd - Narduzzi could get an HC job if he wanted it, why go to USC to be a coordinator for one of the few guys in the same douche league as Dantonio?
He wants a better HC job than a MAC team perhaps?
/°>
Thinks he can parlay the DC spot into HC when Kiffin leaves? Figures that DC at USC is a much higher profile gig and when he takes a shot at HC jobs elsewhere he might be able to skip the MAC coach career stage? Or even doesn't figure that he'll ever be a HC so taking the DC spot at premier school makes great career sense.
Obviously SC is a better gig than state but I'm kind of shocked he is leaving for something other than a head coaching job. Especially with Kiffin presumably on the hot seat. Supposedly if true,it won't be announced until Tuesday, this could change the mind of reschke....what a week for Sparty.
Denard Robinson......They're not going to catch him!
I was in Los Angeles at the end of November. If you haven't spent time there, the lifestyle tangibles blow the midwest away. Start with 300 plus sunny days a year and list them out. USC is private too, so no state imposed red tape if they want to pay their assistants huge money. He'll got a monster raise if he takes the job.

It all depends on what's important to you. For me, Southern Cal is a great place to visit, but I wouldn't want to live there. Of course if I were able to more than double my salary, it might not be so bad.
You'd have to get a raise to get past California taxes. I think they're close to 50% if not more once you factor in federal, state and local
So hot. Milk was a bad choice.
over LA especially with million dollar salary to let him enjoy the best of LA.
Regardless, I suspect Narduzzi would choose the talent, resources and visibility of USC over the LA lifestyle. He has to salivate over 3-4 five star DBs in one class - he can scheme and blitz to the nth degree with his front 7.

Start with the high taxes and earthquakes, and go from there.
The point is that both places have their pluses and minuses. What is desirable to one(warm weather) may not be so for another. A lot of people like the four seasons and snow. Shocking as this is to some, it is true.
"The Ruhr will not be subjected to a single bomb. If an enemy bomber reaches the Ruhr, my name is not Hermann Göring: you can call me Urban Meyer!"
Also, don't plan on buying a house of even modest quality in SoCal unless you've got a cool $100K sitting around for a down payment (NBD, right?). And about $3K a month from there on. Throw in the $10,000 you'll spend on gas and auto maintenance per year and taxes, and you better be making some good money. Same salary would give you a ridiculous quality of life in Michigan.
"There was a time I could have been mistaken for Burt Reynolds. I had a moustache and so did he. But he was the number one star in the world, so there wasn't really much confusion."
Narduzzi and Kork were the reason they were so good the last few years. Now there's no Coupons and no Narduzzi so they'll just suck again.
On the other hand, this may get USC a national title. If Narduzzi can turn a bunch of MSU 3 stars into a soul-crushing defense, he is going to obliterate some teams with USC's talent
He could be fearsome with the talent they get at USC. And, gives him a better platform to catch a HC position at a school other than Cincinnati.
I'm not sure . . . the "I have not talked to anyone at [school]" is a typical non-denial denial.
its amazing how far down our program has come, and how much higher msu's has...
this is contrived by msu, to draw attention in the recruiting world to msu... they are trying to make a move to being able to recruit nationally, in the future. narduzzi isnt going anywhere...and if he did, tressel would take his place anyway.
the m nation needs to worry far more about our program, than others...b/c our program is still in reboot mode, whether you want to believe it or not.
Tressel coaching under Dantonio, as his DC? Not in a million years.
Michigan State recruiting nationally? If they couldn't do that after back-to-back eleven win seasons, it sure as hell isn't going to happen after they went 0-4 at home in the B1G and barely snuck into a bowl game.
As for Michigan, we're going to be fine. Thanks.
See it through.
I'm standing up for that dude, but he is probably referring to Mike Tressel, states LB coach.
Denard Robinson......They're not going to catch him!
It's highly unlikely that's who he meant.
Eating is murder.

Narduzzi would be there 2 years tops before getting some pretty nice HC offers
I wouldn't say the story is debunked. He just said that he hasn't talked to them. He didn't say that he won't talk to them, isn't interested, etc.
It's being reported that he is currenlty meeting with USC right now. Coaches always come out and say things aren't true ... about 24 hours before they take a job
Hearing from my USC buddies this is going to happen. Sucks for Sparty!
Recruiting class down to #46 on Rivals and even behind imprisoned PSU.
Losing Nard could cost MSU their 3 or so good recruits. Reschke, come on down to AA.

There still seems to be a lot of smoke to this rumor:
http://reignoftroy.com/2013/01/05/pat-narduzzi-to-usc-rumors-heating-up-...
I say Narduzzi should go coach at usc for 2 years and then mich brings him back to be dc when mattison retires. I would love that. But let him go because he has michigan's number.

For Dave Brandon? Is it how profitable we are or how many titles we win? The two are somewhat linked i suppose but we have historically never paid for top coaching talent. Like top 5 school money. I understand Gmatt is paid well as he should be but this is rare no?
