Names for new safety coach?
As Rodriguez said in his presser, he is looking to hire a safety coach rather than linebacker. Does anyone have any ideas who he might be looking at? With him looking to make a hire in the next week or so, it seems like there should be some names floating around. Thanks!

I'm a little bummed that we missed out on Corwin Brown. Originally there was a lot of talk about the benefits of having him but we dismissed it since he isn't an LB coach. Now that we're looking for a S coach he would have been a good name....yet he's off to the Patriots.

.. a guy with a name like Thump McPickens. Judging by this name he would be able to coach the safeties how to hit and also how to make a play on the ball. This is a fictional person but a pretty awesome Safety coach name.

Thump McPickens actually does a Judy Garland burlesque show in Provincetown, MA. It's pretty good if you're into that sort of thing.

I missed the presser. Does this mean that our Safeties coach is moving to LB? Or is Gerg taking over LB and our Safeties coach is moving elsewhere?

GERG!! is taking over our LBs and there was nothing said about what will happen to our safeties coach (AFAIK) other than he's getting company.

Rodriguez said they'll look for a guy who can coach the safeties and the outside linebackers. Gerg will likely take over the inside linebackers.

Maybe he can convince Rick to leave Skip Holtz and come to UM instead of going to South Florida.

That Thump McPickins is a great name for a
safties coach.
alablue, I don't know the last time you were
in Provincetown, I found out it's not family
oriented. I dropped my wallet there, and had
to kick it all the way back to Hyannis before
I'd bend over to pick it up.

I was thinking something along the lines of "Headhunter."

I'm of the opinion that it'd be good for the program to get a young coach in who played at U-M and has some NFL experience. I think it'd help with recruiting, NFL cred, and the culture wars. Are there any legitimate candidates out there that fit this bill? Could Ty Law be coaching material?

This not the place to find out. An ex-wolverine who has already proven himself as a coach at some other school or level sounds good. But not someone unproven.

USC didn't mind too much when they hired Ken Norton Jr. as a LB coach, and produced massive NFL talents. It may not have to be Ty Law, but I like the fact of bringing a former UofM player back.

While I sort of agree with your general theory in finding a former Wolverine Blu, Ty Law probably isnt the answer. Ty Law has some serious issues with UM and the way he felt he was mistreated by Lloyd on his way to the NFL. Not to mention I have heard from a number of sources dude is sort of a jackass...
Anyway I think with the general turmoil going on its probably safer to pick up a very experienced coach. Once things are running a bit more smoothly then we can start trying to break in new guys.
