My thoughts on Michigan Football

Submitted by Adrian on

With everything that has been going on today I wanna put my thoughts here. Im a pretty new michigan fan and while I always rooted for michigan sports I became a Wolverine fanatic in 2006 when we played OSU as the #1 vs. #2. The reason I originally started to follow Michigan and hate MSU was because I hated the color green. I havent seen michigan on top of the world as it used to be back in the day but I love everything about Michigan. Some of my all time favorite players have been in this era. Mike Hart. Chad Henne, Tate Forcier, and Denard to mention a few. What I really dont understand is why people are calling for RR's head. What the offense has done this year is something that I dont think has ever happened in Michigan history. We broke records left and right. When RR first took the job I realized that it will take awhile to get to where we want to be, I realize now that at the time I didnt think it would take this long but I also didnt anticipate so much bad stuff happening to us. I have no real point in this just stating that Im all in for Rich Rod most of the players are one hundred percent behind him too. I dont know whats going on in DB's head but the guy played football for UofM Im sure he understands what it means to have a quality football program. Im sure whatever the reason for waiting to extend RR's contract is a good reason and he wants the best for our program. Instead of speculating and overthinking things lets enjoy the good things that are in our program and know that once we get our defense together there will be few teams that will stop us. Go Blue

Offensively, I don't care if it's RR or Harbaugh - who ran a pure spread at SDSU - coaching, we're going to have one of the, if not the, best offenses in the country.  Literally everyone on the team returns minus Schilling (Barnum/Campbell could be better?), plus one year of experience, plus one year of strength and conditioning, and plus Dee Hart as the new feature back (with RR).

Defensively, the 3-3-5 is out, and whether it's a 4-3 or a 3-4 next season, we're going to be much, much better.  Starting experience at literally every single position but Jibreel Black's (who WILL be better than Banks), plus one year of experience, plus one year of strength and conditioning, plus Troy Woolfolk as the new deep man.

Adrian,

Thanks for the sanity of your thoughts. It is wonderful to feel your sense of calm, appreciation, and rationality. Enjoyable post, I am fully in accord with you.

And the positivity is good..best way to be a true fan...

As for your question - I think the 'fire RR' crowd are mostly those that are fearful of what Michigan might become once we see this transition through...and then some Michigan fans who will never be satisfied, probably also bitched about LC...the 'I'm negative and contrarian, and therefore must seem smart' type.

when i was a child i came across what i thought was a dangerous snake. i examined it, did my due dilligence. i would ride my power wheels by it all the time, getting a good look as it lingered by the lake.

one day i got the nerve to approach the snake. once i got within arms reach, i realized it was just a black hose. sensing its weakness i fought it off with my sword and was victorious.

Can you post this clip as a response to EVERY CC post from now on?  Funnier than hell and sure beats Hackney's air raid warning.

Tomorrow at work I'm gong to star dropping "I like Turtles" ever time somebody says something meaningless and stupid.  And I'll laugh.

It is new and interesting posts like this that make this blog great. You seem to bring new and interesting opinions that none of us have considered.

In my opinion, a large portion of the older fan base hated RR the first time they heard his accent.

RR is the first coach in a long time that wasn't heavily linked to Michigan before. Michigan football is built upon a solid rock of tradition and anything that isn't "the way things have always been done," including outsiders with their own ideas, is met with hostility.

It's a microcosm of humanity.

1969 to be exact  or 3 coaches before RR who IMO exudes a lot of the qualities that Bo did.  Intense practices, conditioning, loyalty to his players, concern for the player's welfare, and a new way of doing things.  I've maintained that he came into the perfect storm.  Year one - little time to recruit players for his O and nothing returning on that side of ball.  D returning but they didn't all buy in.  Year two - very little returning on D, but a lot returning on O except for a true freshman QB.  Throw in key injuries to Tate, Molk, and senior RBs who were being counted on to take pressure off the young QB.  Year three - injury bug, transfers, and an early entrant hits the area with the least depth, a first year starting QB again, and few quality starting upperclassman.

Personally, I believe he'll get the job done if given another year.  With almost everyone returning he deserves the opportunity.  I just hope he gets it and doesn't lose to many recruits while DB drags his feet.  His players play hard for him, they've done well in the classroom, and for the most part have been great ambassadors for the university.

I agree entirely with this as well as the stuff about the "perfect storm," but I find that most RR-haters don't let facts get in the way of their opinions.

I hope this is a parody of all the other brain vomit threads we've seen here recently.  If so, I suggest shorter sentences and more hyperbole.

If you're serious, I want to let you know that I use Beano to control my gas.

Well it all began when I was born cause my dad went to Michigan so I was raised a Michigan fan and I can remember the days of Bo Schembechler when Michigan won all the time and never lost and people thought that was really great because we would beat Ohio State most of the time and people liked that because Ohio State wears red instead of blue which makes them really bad because everyone knows that red is the color of the devil so when Michigan would win that was like good triumphing over evil and we haven't seen that very much anymore because we don't have players like Desmond Howard or Jim Harbaugh because Rich Rodriguez made them promise to never come back to Michigan again because if they did he would throw shoelaces at them and I think that's why we don't beat Ohio State anymore which is bad enough but we also lose to Michigan State sometimes and it's not fair because Michigan State's color is green which is camouflaged against the field so I think what Dave Brandon needs to do is first fire Rich Rodriguez because he doesn't know what it's like to be a Michigan Man and he lost to Iowa and we never used to lose to teams like Iowa because of Lloyd Carr and second he needs to install maize turf so that when Michigan State plays in the Big House their green uniforms won't be camouflaged against the grass and then he should hire Jim Harbaugh to coach the team and maybe Mike Hart as offensive coordinator because he was a really good running back even better than guys like Anthony Carter and Sam Sword and also he should fire Greg Robinson because he made our defense really bad and I just wanted to know what everyone else thought too because I've never had the chance to post all my thoughts on the board like this all at once.  go blue.
