My Michigan/Utah Stubhub Ticket Story

Submitted by UNCWolverine on

Thought this might be forum thread worthy, if not mods feel free to delete.

I bought a pair of UM/Utah tix on Stubhub on April 22nd for $122 per ticket in section N23, north endzone. They were about half of what similar tickets were going for at that time. I had a feeling that the seller knew he left money on the table so I would probably never see those tickets.

In preparation for that scenario I contacted stubhub the day I bought them to find out about their policy. They told me that I would be guaranteed comparable or better tickets if I didn’t receive my tickets on September 1st. I secretly had hoped to never receive the tickets after I was explained the policy.

Fast forward to….. today. As of this morning I had still not received a UPS shipping confirmation email from stubhub. And when I walked out to the front of my house the UPS driver just happened to pull up, weird. He was delivering a box to my neighbor so I took the opportunity to explain the situation. He told me that he did not see any deliveries going to my address today, and that if I was to receive a delivery from UPS he would be the driver.

So I decided not to wait until close of business today in order to get the replacement process going. I called Stubhub and after a bit of a wait I got a customer service person that was very helpful. I explained everything to him including the UPS driver confirming that I was not going to receive any shipments today.

Jumping ahead I received a phone call from Stubhub after maybe 4-5 hours. The lady asked me if I was ok with a pair of replacement tickets in section E36 about 40 rows up, or basically midfield between the 40s. I told her that was fine. Comparable tickets at midfield are going for $660 today.

I am absolutely dumbfounded that the seller would choose to not send me the tickets and be on the hook for over $1,000 in penalties.

I know tickets/stubhub are discussed frequently so I thought my story might be of interest to the board. Looking very forward to the game, even more now which I didn’t think was possible.

One more note, Stubhub is going to set up a temporary ticket pickup at the SLC Marriott University Park, which I believe is where a few mgobloggers are staying.

You've mentioned more than a few times that you were hoping to get screwed over. Glad it worked out for you! That is one of the strangest things I've ever typed...

The penalty is only 20% of the sale price. I made a mistake earlier this year loading tickets - I put in a digit less and had to cancel it right away (some guy literally bought it within a minute of my loading it). They charged my credit card 20% of the sale price. The amount they pay the buyer does not have a correlation to the amount the seller had to pay as a penalty.

Good work for praising someone for coming through on their commitment.  Have fun at the game!

I had to sell my MUFC/Real Madrid game tix at basically the last minute last year, and did so on Stubhub.  Other than the rush to drop the physical tix off at the nearest whatever it was shipper here in BFE Iowa, I was happy with the result.  And so was the buyer.

I only had it happen once, but it was just for a spring training game in Lakeland. In my case, however, the tickets didn't exist or the seller had the wrong info, or I don't know what it was. Anyway, they were supposed to be behind the Tigers dugout, down near 1B. The tickets I got were right behind the dugout, but closer to the plate. Long story short: they did come through with better tickets.

yep, it was sort of like getting dealt pocket aces with three raisers in front of you. I was trying to pretend no big deal as I didn't want her to somehow realize that she was giving me the best seats in the house then suddenly take back her offer once she realized what she had done. I'm not even sure she was all that aware of the seating chart, at least she didn't seem to know how much better the seats were when she spoke to me.

In 2013 we went to Cleveland for the Browns/Lions game, and we had gotten our tickets off of StubHub for the upper deck. We get to the gates, and the tickets are invalid because the seller double sold them. Fast forward 30 minutes on the phone with StubHub and a walk to their satilite location at a local hotel, and we were sitting in the first row on the 50-yard line.

I have used StubHub many times and always had great results. There was one time where the seller didn't send the tickets right away and StubHub contacted me and told me they were in contact with him. It wasn't even what I'd consider late but they were on top of it. He didn't send the tickets within their specified time and they upgraded me to even better seats. Very good to deal with.

Thanks to Above & Beyond downvoting you.
I now realize what a worthless, unimformative, and wildly off-topic post this was.

Dodged that bullet, Whew?

I had a similar experience on StubHub with concert tickets to Mumford and Sons. When they found replacement tickets, they turned out to be cheaper and they actually refunded me the difference. Fantastic company to do business with.

Went to U2 in Chicago the day after. Had one floor ticket and sold it so we could buy two obstructed view tickets together. We were buying two tickets for $45 each at the brick and motor store near the East(?) Loop and the guy just swapped out crummy tickets with an upgrade for no extra charge (all without asking and before we told him we had just gotten married). On the way to the show we looked at our the tickets were being sold for $175 each.

So, yeah stubhub might be a bad company as far as encouraging the ticket upsell secondary market but that was a great experience with the company.

I prefer Stubhub to real life scalpers. I don't know how they do it exactly but it's guaranteed. You often pay a little bit more but zero BS. It's straight from the source or SH for me. If not I don't go.

Wow, that's great! I've never sold tickets on StubHub, but I have bought a lot. I typically look for the immediate download/electronic type so that I'm guaranteed my tickets. I had no idea that if a seller doesn't get you the tickets, they are responsible for purchasing your replacement tickets! Good job man, that's a great story!

My family had an issue with StubHub and it wasn't handled this well...

Went to a Lions game, tickets wouldn't scan, presumably because they were fake or the barcode had been duplicated.

Called Stubhub, got new tickets emailed to us, scanned on the phone and got in the game. Went to our seats, and people were sitting there in our seats with the same tickets we had. Lions security threatened to throw us out of the game, since the other people's tickets were reportedly "more" valid...

The security officer gave us what amounted to upper corner nosebleed tickets (We had lower bowl, 30 yardline) which we took just because it was already halfway through the second quarter and we'd driven to Detroit from Grand Rapids to actually watch football.

Opened an investigation with Stubhub, but I'm not sure what ended up happening with it all (Tickets were a gift from a supplier at work and he never told me what ended up happening)

Overall, pretty shitty treatment from Lions management and stubhub for issuing is duplicate tickets....
