My Michigan Man Cave

Submitted by Florida Blue on
Some time ago I posted about ideas for my Michigan Man Cave and I told those interested that I would post progress as it comes. Well my house is approaching 1 year old now so I thought I would share some progress from the cave from it's early beginning up to now. Hope you all like it. There is much more to do but I am off to a heck of a start. Go Blue!! The Beginning Photobucket Photobucket Photobucket Then the work starts: Photobucket Photobucket Photobucket And where we are today: Photobucket Photobucket Photobucket Photobucket Photobucket Photobucket Photobucket There is more to the room than this and as this project continues I will add more to it.

So did you buy that or did you build it on your own.  Not to copy your style but that poker table is the final piece to my puzzle I think.  I still have a half of the room that I need to fill and that would be perfect.

and glad to see the Mrs embracing the idea.  It woulda been enough to show her helping out, but she's smiling, so we all know that you are actually being allowed to enjoy the Man Cave.  Strong work.

1)  That is simply amazing.  I am in awe and truly jealous

2)  You have seemingly found the perfect woman, one who will a) allow you to construct such a beautiful hideout, and b) gladly help with a smile on her face.

Bravo to you on both points, sir!

My uncle has a room like that only it is an OSU version (aghhh!). The reason I bring it up is he has an OSU carpet theme. Block O in the middle and gray on the outside. I wonder if there is a Michigan version that can be done? Blue carpet with a maize M in the middle. (ahhh, happy thoughts)

I always have thought about putting in an astroturf type carpet in the basement of our next home that we'll build. It will be my man cave and I thought it'd be cool to do a scaled down Big House field as the carpet. I also thought about muraling the walls to look like the Big House packed with fans but that may be taking it a bit too far.

This is still at least 5 years out as I wait for the big promotion and then stockpile some money but it will happen someday.

To the OP that's a killer paint job on the walls. Well done. I would be glad to hoist a beer there with you anytime. What area of the country are you stationed?

I especially like that wall mounted/framed helmet it would look great in my man cave .

A few questions.

How much does it weigh?

Will it fit through your window?

When will you be away from home for about 30 minutes?

Seriously - I really like what you are doing.  Can't wait to see the finished product.  You have a keeper in the Mrs.  Sometimes I think my wife might want to set my man cave on fire!

Man that was by far the toughest part of this whole project.  I had to order a sheet of glass for the helmet because the measurments were larger than anyone carried standard.  The glass is 5 feet by 5 feet and I bought the wall mounts at the glass shop.

Weight I am not sure about but I can tell you it is heavy probably 50 to 60 lbs.  What you don't see is that the stairs go down right below where it is hung.  It took 3 people and 2 ladders to get it hung.  We had to put the bottom brackets in then lift the glass from ladders over the bottom clips without the top heavy glass flipping over on us.  Had to havea 3rd person standing on the rail with a level with a sock on the end pushing on the top of the glass.  Once we got the glass in the clips the other 2 people pushed on the top of the glass to keep it from falling forward while I sprinted to the top of the rail to lean forward and drill in the top clips really fast.

It was a major pain in the butt but it looks great.  If I ever move and have to take it down I'm not sure what I will do.

I can't believe I didn't read at least one off-color comment about your wife.

Awesome room, man... If I had one like that I'd only come out of there on Saturdays to stop by the bathroom and raid the fridge.  ALTHOUGH that's what little dorm room refrigerators are really made for, right?

Does your wife have a sister that lives in AZ? I would love to find a good Michigan woman that not only allows you to have your very own Michigan Man Cave, but also assists in the construction of it. :)

I already have the wood and paint in the garage.  I will soon be consructing a "Those who stay will be champions" sign, a "Go Blue Go Hold the Rope" sign and a "Hard Edge" sign.  They will all be hung in due time.  The problem is that now that football season is here I don't have time to do stuff because I have to watch Michigan win.  Then by the time I'm done with that I am a little intoxicated and don't feel comfortable working with power tools.

You have to sit down with the wife and be honest with her:  that is the last time she is allowed in the michigan man-cave outside of a beer run or delivering a pizza.  sorry, no girls allowed.
