My MGoHoneyMoon & UTAH Game Plans
Let me begin by saying, I am getting married August 29th of this year. Since my fiance and I are getting married in the summer, we decided we would travel out west over the long labor day weekend and save a big tropical honeymoon for the winter time. The original plan was to go Mammoth Lakes, CA for couple of days and then head to Vegas.
Whilst in the car the other day, I proposed the idea of going to Utah (selfishsly of course) and checking out the mountains there. She was immediately hesitent knowing that Michigan played at Utah and that was the main reason for my request. I recommened some of the beautiful national parks in the Utah area as well as attending the football game. Initial response... NO.
I proceeded to explain to her that no matter what, I was spending 3 hours watching that game and how much fun it would be to be at a primetime game, and Harbaugh's first game to boot. The hesitency persisted until I told her that I would not bring my golf clubs with me on our full week-long trip next winter. That was all it took. She was sold. With a great idea and a stroke of luck, I will be attending the 2015 Michigan football season opener in Utah and Jim Harbaugh's first game as Michigan coach all as part of my honeymoon. I could not be more ecstatic. What's even made it better is her tune has done a complete 180 and she's just as excited as I am.
With this revelation, I thought it'd be fun to see what other people had planned for that weekend or what kind of plans people were making that indeed were going to Utah. I look forward to hearing some creative ideas on how to spend that weekend and of course, celebrating a Michigan victory.
Go Blue.

Congrats on your wedding. I am flying to the Utah game from Seattle. Recommend driving 45 minutes north and checking out Park City while you're there. Decent places to hang out around the University in SLC. Beautiful place and town. I enjoy spending time with Jack Mormons.

it is gorgeous, rivers are accessible, guides are easy to find. maybe try the green river and flaming river gorge which is on the border with wyoming, not far from where the I-80 travels. exceptionally pretty.
i took my then-fiance (my now mgobride) there with my homicide investigator years ago and taught them how to fly fish. you laugh, but on my/our real honeymoon with mgobride we had a great trip fly fishing, skiing, hunting, white-water rafting, etc.

You glossed over "my homicide investigator" way too quickly.
Go on...

which is the main reason why we moved back to michigan. it was part of our courtship with my socal bride that raising a family was incompatible with my then-occupation. and i am grateful to be back home every day, even when it is -30 and i have to get up at 0400 hrs to open up the township offices b/c the power went out up here and we used it as a disaster shelter.
i wrote an article years back for a trout magazine that relayed that story re: teaching those two how to fly-fish. if this was an 'mgoflyfishing' blog i'd post in the diary section.

Now, that's not to say that you can't have a great time and incorporate the Michigan game as well. For all the heat Utah is getting, it's a beautiful state with loads of great things to see. And someone planning on driving moderate distances has access to some of the great natural wonders in our country.
A Thursday night game is not going to ruin a bunch of plans. I'm hesitant to totally endorse, since your wife-to-be is dodgy about this, but if she is genuinely interested in the rest of the itinerary it's not bad.
Our honeymoon in Colorado was planned months in advance, and we did things like attend plays and take tours. But, by a stroke of luck, I discovered later that the Lions were playing in Denver the Sunday we were there (it was a 10-day trip). We turned it into a nice weekend with dinner, a play, and the game. We even managed to make it to church.
So if it doesn't blow out the trip, go for it. If it really crimps your wife's hopes for the whole getaway, reconsider.

Good luck with the mini-moon in Utah. If your soon-to-be-wife is down with it, it would be a pretty memorable time both from a personal as well as UM history standpoint. I won't be a hater.
