My first Experience at The Big House

Submitted by Florida Blue on
I recently experienced my first game at The Big House against Purdue. The weather was shockingly awesome when my wife and I flew in on Friday afternoon and it was even better on Saturday. We walked around campus and ate at Blimpy and stuff like that. I took a trillion pictures of the stadium (which looks awesome with the boxes) and even got into Schembechler Hall even though it was closed to the public. I got some great pics in there too. I always said I would go but never did and my wife (who I just married in October) bought me tickets as a wedding gift. We were 2 rows up around the 10 yard line and it was the most amazing weekend that I have had in a loooong time. For those that live there I guess it becomes a part of your normal life and you probably begin to take it for granted which is normal. Kind of like I take the weather for granted in Tampa. All I can say is even though we lost a heart breaker that made me want to end it all it was an amazing trip for me. I have loved Michigan Football since I was a little kid when I actually used to live up there. Finally going there made me apprciate that much more what we all share. There is something special about Ann Arbor and Michigan Football that no other team in the country has and guys we have to remember that. I see a lot of negativity on this board and I saw a lot of it when I was there because our guys are struggling but at the end of the day We Are Michigan! Support our young players win or lose because they are sacrificing a lot to put on those colors every Saturday for us and they do it voluntarily. They are giving everything they have day in and day out for Pride and nothing more. Stand by our team! Scream on every down that tOSU has the ball and make them remember who they are playing! Send our Seniors out the right way with support and no Boo's. Act like Michigan Football Fans and give them hell for all of the people who love them as much as you do but can't be there. I think we can take those arrogant pricks and you have to believe if you expect to achieve! Go BLUE!! PS I met Brandon Minor at Bennigans after that game and got a pic with him...it didn't erase the loss but man it sure helped. He was a really nice guy.

Were you a coach? Ever given a motivational talk? Especially this part: Support our young players win or lose because they are sacrificing a lot to put on those colors every Saturday for us and they do it voluntarily. They are giving everything they have day in and day out for Pride and nothing more. This gives me goosebumps. I will be ready to cheer come Saturday. Hail Blue!

They flew out for the Purdue game, first visit to the state of Michigan and first visit to the Big House. They've had season tickets to Oregon State football for decades, but this was their first taste of Big 10 football, and they were impressed. Partly by the massive scale of everything (Beaver football gets about 40k every Saturday), partly by the tradition around every corner... and partly by the halftime and postgame shows, as both bands were great (my dad and I are unrepentant band dorks). I had a great time showing them around - Blimpy, Michigan Union, walking the Diag, and following the band from Revelli Hall into the stadium. And I agree, the weather was absolutely marvelous. I think they are turning into long distance Michigan fans now, because for the last two weeks they've sent occasional texts with comments about UM football....

my first time was the 2001 Washington game, a perfect September day (a break from the oppressive heat of the south) and Brabbs hitting the kick to win at the end. When that kick went through it was also my loudest moment at Mich stadium. The last time I was at a game there was the 03 tOSU game. Maybe I need to come back soon as our winning percentage is 1.000 when I am in attendance for THE GAME. I have to ask, was Butters also at Bennigan's?

You have to pardon my ignorance but I'm not sure who Butters is. It was parents weekend so he was there with his family and there was one other player with him but I wasn't sure who it was. I didn't want to bother him while he was with his family but he saw my wife wearing his number and I had on the vintage Desmond Jersey so he actually waved us over to chat. He was a really cool kid man and he was very apologetic about not pulling off the w with us flying up from Florida and all. He did have 154 yards on the ground that day and 3 TD's so what can you say to him other than he played his heart out. It was a great experience.
