My Attempt at a Hype Video

Submitted by Space Bat on

Here's my first attempt at a hype video. My goal was to highlight the ups and downs of the RR era, and the first season of the Hoke era. I'm pretty pleased with how it turned out, although the music is kinda sloppy at the transitions and I may have used too much eminem, but I couldn't think of any other songs that fit what I was going for. I'd love some feedback, because I had a lot of fun making it, and could see myself doing another one.

I'll always find it weird that we only had a one game season in 2008. You'd think that someone would have scheduled more games to play, but that's it. Only one. None others. Nope.

Downvoted the post solely because you bumped a really bad diary that hadn't been commented on in over two weeks back to relevance with a bogus post just to get to the 100 point threshold.

Upon further review, you did this several times to various dead posts. http://mgoblog.com/users/space-bat

Didn't have the patience to post your video?  Couldn't even make real comments that added something to the board?

There is a reason for having a minimum points threshold in order to create new board posts.  If everyone simply got around the rules by adding useless comments to 3 week old posts, the real information on the board would be lost.  So I care.  And I'm guessing the mods would care.

Personally, if the guy took the time to put together a decent hype video, then I think it deserves to be posted.  Nicely done, OP.

And Butterfield, maybe you can tell us how your posts constitute "real information?"  Are you a mod, or did you just stay at a Holiday Inn Express last night?

Wow since you want to go this route are you not ding wrong yourself in turning the topic of this thread into something totally unrelated?  Im pretty sure there are more people than just him that have done this so I feel its only fair you go back and look at every thread on here and crucify everybody else like you just did this poster.

BUSINESS?

Nice to meet you! I'm ROEBUCK.

What say you? Would you like to start up a BUSINESS with me; a Department store we could call SERIOUS-ROEBUCK?

We can open by taking nominations as to who on this thread could be considered best qualified to be the Third Stooge; if it's not against the rules here.

I love these hype videos but I wishit was just the 2011 season. Not to take anything away from this video,i just perfer shorter hard hitting vids. Over all tho I think you did a nice job!

My apologies Butterfield, but I finished up the video last night and really wanted to share it, but since I rarely post, I was a few mgopoints short. I figured it wouldn't be a big deal to post on some old diaries in order to get to 100 and contribute this video.

Butterfield is in the right, spacebat is in the wrong and now he knows, end of story.  There's a good reason minimums were put in place for posting and there's also a reason the mods prowl dead threads looking for spammers and random posts by users trying to pad points.  There's also a difference between worrying about little, nitpicky things (like calling a meta thread OT and policing grammar) and correcting a clear violation of MGoBlog ettiquette.

That being said, charming use of vocabulary.  I personally think there are too many newer, passive aggressive users who have no filter on this blog like yourself who seem to cause quite a few of the annoyances on here.  I appreciate Butterfield's observation, and to combat your fascination with gentalia, there's no reason for you to be such a dick to him.

Well, I'm glad we have cleared that up then. In the future, I will make sure to post more pictures of cats, that way I can contribute to the board and get to 100 points before my account turns two years old.

I  liked it man, thanks. I think it had too many downs to be a "hype" video but I still enjoyed it! I had half of those memories blocked out from the first half of the vid. lol

My only problems with the video were that there were a few too many "lowlights"  which made it a little long and that the video also seemed like it went highlights-lowlights-highlights. Other than that, I liked it. Videos like this really scratch the off season itch. Keep them coming.

One other thing... It looks like your signature says "Nevar forget" (instead of never forget). Was that a mistake, or is there a joke that I am not in on? Not trying to be a dick, just felt I had to ask.

Like others, I would think that it is a little long for a hype  video, but as a brief documentary / highlight film of the last few years of Michigan football, it is a good inaugural video.

The only thing I would point out, as others have, is that it perhaps should be a little more uplifting in terms of the highlights used - for example, watching even mere seconds of the 2010 Penn State game again still physically hurts a little.

Thanks for sharing this though. Overall, a great first effort. I hope there is more to come.

Thanks for the input guys, when I was putting together the RR part, I wanted to start off with the highlights of his regime because I felt like at the beginning of his tenure most us were extremely excited to see his offense in action, and expected an explosive team, which was somewhat the case. I did the lowlights second to show that while RR gave us some good memories, it was mostly painful memories of turrible defense and the offense sputtering against good teams. I felt like going from the good to the extremely bad to the awesome of last year provided a nice arc for the video. I also agree that it's really not a hype video, but more of a highlight reel of the past few years of michigan football, as others have said.

I really enjoyed it. I wouldnt change all the bad in the video anyway. I love this coaching staff, and where this program is headed. I look forward to any more videos you do.

A for effort, but a few points (and only because the OP asked for feedback):

1. As a rule, 12 minutes is probably too long.

2. Too much old footage- I know you wanted to feature the RR transition into the Hoke era, but a few highlights from the 2010 season would've done the trick for that.

3. IMHO, never use GERG in Michigan videos. May he never be associated with the program again (even just with old clips).

But these are all just minor points-- love the effort and am always glad to see more hype videos. Keep it up!
