Multiple Sources: Dunn Sticking With OSU

Just to clear this up, as I'm sure the question about Bri'onte Dunn potentially opening back up will be asked several times:

Dunn and Pittman both say they're sticking with OSU.

— Bill Greene (@BillBankGreene) December 20, 2011

That's OSU's main guy on Scout. Other sources are saying the same thing.

It's only a one year bowl ban but it could impact some players.  Dunn would be a prime candidate.  He's not likely to redshirt and depending on how he pans out, he might not stay all four years (like Beanie Wells).  That means he'd only get two bowl games....and be on probation his entire career.  I don't know if this is done yet.

The postseason ban helps in the sense that OSU cannot win a Big Ten title or compete in a prestigious bowl and thus will not be able to use that tool in recruiting...but it really doesn't affect any players committing to the team for 2012. At best, some of them would probably have become back-ups, so they aren't really missing out on much.

A two year ban might have made them think twice. I'm actually not sure this doesn't work out in Meyer's favor. If his transition is rough, he'll have a handy excuse (even if it doesn't really apply) to use to explain the troubles. Basically he gets a practice season before gearing up for the real thing in 2013.

Michigan really needs to beat Ohio at Ohio and win the Big Ten next year. Those two things will be the bigger than any sanctions the NCAA can hand down.

Is really a big deal, especially for any players who did redshirt.  There's not much of a recruiting advantage (assuming Ohio doesn't get extra staff next year too) because a dead period starts about the same time as most of the bowl practice time (yesterday for this season).  This period (which prohibits visits) was put in place specifically so as not to disadvantage teams playing in bowls.

I guess lying to recruits is better than lying to the NCAA in Columbus, right? I guess they're moving in the right direction.

Once a kid like Dunn gets his mind set on going to his dream school sanctions like this wont change that. If he had waited another week before confirming with OSU, though, this would be another story.

Dunn chose OSU over us...twice. The second time he could esily have waited a few weeks to see what was going to happen. Now, this means he won't play as a back-up for OSU's feature back next year in the post-season, and some of the walk-on friends he makes will have to pay their own way all the way.

I think we can wave good bye to the S.S. Dunn, and move on. There's bigger game afoot now.

Does anyone have information on the current scholarship situation at tsio? It seems to me that it may be possible that the scholarship reduction won't even be a factor this year depending on how many players are currently on scholarship/leaving/etc. To add to that, I'm sure the plan for most of the freshman to redshirt anyway, the bowl ban won't mean too much to them either. Not surprised that no one has flipped, and I won't be if no one does (cause let's be honest, expecting movement an hour after the news is a little silly)

USC was able to have the penalties not count towards that particular recruiting year but instead start in the next cycle.  That may have been because they were appealing them but in either case, it's clear the NCAA isn't being as hard on OSU as they were on USC so it probably won't affect this season.

Ah, I didn't know that about USC. I did just see the article on ESPN stating that the reduction is through the 2014-15 school year, so that would mean the ARE applying to this recruiting cycle (these recruits incoming for the 2012-13 year). I wouldn't be surprised if OSU tries to get them pushed back, if for nothing more than planning purposes

...are correct.  They will only be allowed 82 scholarship players on the roster during the 2012-13, 2013-14, and 2014-15 academic years.  So, in theory, this year's class could be three players smaller than it would have been.  I would think Urban Meyer will find a way to make it work and keep this, his first class, to the size he has planned for since accepting the job.  He will find a way to get to 82 without hurting his class, I am sure.

Yes, isn't it miraculous that the bowl ban was only a single year? If it would have been two years, like it should have been it really would have messed with recruiting.
