Mullen signs 4 year, $10.6 million contract with Mississippi State

Didn't see this posted yet, but it was just announced today.

Mullen's four-year deal is worth $10.6 million with a $1.4 million buyout, a significant bump from his previous deal worth $1.2 million a year. The new contract is subject to the approval of the state College Board. Mullen will receive $250,000 in state funds with most of the balance of his salary paid through donations to the private Bulldog Foundation.

"It's a top-20 salary nationally and I think that's pretty significant," MSU athletic director Scott Stricklin said.

I'm surprised Mississippi State has that type of money to pay a coach. Looks like he'll be around Starksville for a while.

It's funny how the coach can take $10 freakin million and still be considered such a stand up guy, while Cam Newton asks for a measly $180k and is considered the scum of the earth.

Nah, I just find the unique economis of college football and basketball pretty interesting, and I wonder how much longer this system of paying everyone but the players can sustain itself.

<br>As a fan, I don't want players to be paid. But as a rational human being, it's hard to keep a straight face and argue that everyone but them is entitled to a piece of what the market is willing to pay for their services.

If there anything should tell you that you do NOT know what is ever going to happen in a coaching carousel, it should be that Dan Mullen is still at Mississippi State in a year where Florida and Miami both had openings.
