MSU vs. OSU / College Basketball Afternoon Thread

Currently 11-11 with 15:30 to go...

I'm rooting for OSU to LOSE (see what I did there?). If the Buckeyes lose then the majority of the teams I don't want to see end up on the opposite side of the bracket. Including both MSU and OSU. Iowa is the only team on our side and they'd have to win 2 games before seeing Michigan.

If they win...and Nebraska wins. Then Nebraska is the #4 and OSU is #5 with the Buckeyes needing to win a first round game and Nebraska getting the bye. We would likely play the winner assuming the top seeds advanced.

I don't want MSU or Wisconsin or OSU to be honest...if we get OSU or Iowa, I hope that they are the #5 and have to win 2 games to see us.

You just never know with OSU I guess. They're talented it's just a matter of if/when they wake up.

I'll say this, moreso than who wins THIS game. I'm rooting for Nebraska (and I can say that because I don't hate Nebraska because of their coach...and I do hate Wisconsin).

I really don't care if it's Iowa or OSU as long as they're the #5 seed. I want them to be on their 3rd game in 3 days.

Did realize Jared Sullinger and Dashawn Thomas would've been in this senior class for OSU. That would've been a loaded team...would've loved to see that team go up against Michigan this year with Burke and THJ (and McGary) also in the fold.

we can watch these two play and not have a huge stake in who wins.  I guess on some level msu winning puts our two wins over them a bit higher than our solo win against ohio.

It's pretty amazing to watch the other top-tier B1G teams this year.  I'm consistently underwhelmed with how they look (offensively at least) compared to UM.  It just really makes me appreciate what Beilein has done.

We're playing head and shoulders better than any team in our conference right now.

Amir Williams forgets how to basketball every thirty seconds or so, and I hate watching any of MSU's players except Payne and maybe Harris, if I block out his stupid face.

I would rather play Ohio again over Iowa.

Also I'll report what I said in the other thread:

I don't see how you can hate the same school less in a different spot. It's the SAME school with the same people rooting for them! I hate everything about it and the state of ohio.

OSU has pretty much always sucked in hockey. They don't in basketball. MSU has been good in both.

And I would say the MSU basketball rivalry isn't as strong as the football rivalry either. Simply because more people care about football. But I would say MSU basketball is a little bit higher on the list than OSU in terms of rivalries.

There's pretty much no way OSU can maintain an 80 point pace.  So State's going to pull away when OSU falls into their inevitable slump.

Also this game features a bunch of outdated announcing bullshit.

An ISU player elbowed a WSU player in the head, which was not called, so the game continued. On offense he's foulded.  He gets to shoot free throws.  (I forget if it was a shooting foul or ISU is in the bonus.) But, with the stoppage in play, the refs review the earlier play and call a flagarant 1 on him.  But, what if it was a flagarant 2, or what if that was his 5th foul?  Does he get to shoot the free throws before leaving?  Given that the ISU player shot before WSU took the flagarant free throws, my guess is yes.  But, I was wondering if anyone knew for sure.

Do I want us to beat OSU for a second time this season?

or

Do I want us to beat MSU for a third time this season?

(It is tougher to beat a team three times in a year - so I want MSU in the tournament.)

Ohio State is hanging around right now due mainly to being sent to the line more than MSU right now. OSU's free throw rate is 40.00% right now, and they are 7-8 when they've been at the stripe. Right now, MSU has a 57.89% effective field goal percentage right now, 12% better than OSU at the moment.

I'm rooting for MSU to lose because honestly, I don't care much about seeding currently.

Wisconsin and MSU are guaranteed to be on the other side of the bracket. Nebraska is guarenteed to be on our side.

It basically comes down to whether you want OSU or Iowa on our side. If OSU loses we get Iowa. If OSU wins, we get OSU. Personally, I think we should beat either team so I don't really care, if we lose that game it won't be because of "matchups."

Having said that, I do think we matchup better with OSU. Iowa, even though they are struggling, can score, and as detailed on this site, and in our game at Iowa, we play much better against low scoring defensive teams, like OSU, vs. high scoring ones like Iowa.

So for that reason, plus I'd like to beat OSU in the tourney after all the times they've knocked us out, I'd go OSU, so I want OSU to win today.

Also fuck MSU, I want them to lose every game.
