MSU vs Ohio: Who are you rooting for?

Submitted by althegreat23 on

This year Michigan State plays at Ohio on Oct. 1. Who are you rooting for?

I hate both of them equally, but this year I think I want to Ohio State to win to knock Michigan State off their short-lived high horse.

Always root for OSU to have a strong season so when we beat them it hurts that much more. If they fall apart completely over the next few years it will hurt the status of the rivalry, so I would like to see michigan and OSU as the top two teams in the big ten. Also, MSU has not arrived as a true contender in my mind until they beat OSU. Given that they skipped playing them the last two years this would be a chance to legitimize (or disqualify) the succes they had last year.

Nothing was more fun than the the Cooper days, when Buckeye fans would be in my face about National Championship aspirations and number 1 rankings the before The Game, and then owing me a 5th of bourbon with a very long face after The Game.

I'd much rather have Ohio win every game except for the one that matters, than loose every game. The rivalry is at it's best when both teams are firing on all cylinders.

Am I the only one who doesn't like calling OSU "Ohio?" It's hilarious that Hoke does it, but as fans I think it's kinda silly. To each his own I guess.

In all seriousness, Michigan is my team and I want the the outcome that helps Michigan the most (OSU win). That said, I simply won't watch the game so that I don't have to root for anyone.

OSU of course. This is only so that it slows down Sparty's national recruiting campaign, even if only just a bit. Pro combat uniforms today, they will be taking the world over this time tomorrow.

The division races often come down to a 1 game difference. I would rather have that extra L for state if it helps us win the West. Let Ohio have that win. I really would love to see us in the conf championship the first year. That would be huge for our momentum/recruiting.

Being from the state of Michigan, I would always root for MSU against OSU. I remember a great game from years back (early 70's) where MSU pulled a big upset of OSU and it was awesome. I can only root for OSU, when it comes to big non-conference games and bowl games as I want the B10 to look good.

I'll go with Ohio State. We have to have the best record with only the teams on Legends side to earn a trip to the Big Ten title game. Ohio State winning doesn't hurt us in any way, but Sparty winning does. That said, I'm not "rooting" for anyone except Michigan.

I'll be rooting for Michigan to beat Minnesota. The MSU - OSU game is irrelevant to me. Of course, not living in Michigan, I don't hate MSU as much as Michigan natives. On a national scale, OSU is the important school, not MSU. Also remember that this is game five of the season, the last game where OSU has player suspensions. That makes an MSU win weak anyway. Let MSU win, since OSU is weakened. As long as Michigan beats both MSU & OSU, life is good.

You know, I'd really love to see both teams lose, but since that's impossible, I'm going to have to go with Ohio.

Michigan State needs to be knocked off of their "high horse" so to speak, but I think that will be done in week 3 when they have to travel to south bend.  Plus, do you really think MSU is going to be able to get through teams like nebraska, iowa, and Wisconsin?  I don't think so.

So assuming that MSU is going to lose some other games next season and fail to repeat the  season built on trick plays, I'm going to pick Ohio.

Not only because I hate them much more, but also because they are more likely to run the table and win the Big Ten.  They have lost some big things, but losing 2012 recruits doesn't exactly hurt the 2011 team very much.

Plus, if Ohio comes out and win the Big Ten again, their recruiting is going to virtually return to normal, especially since the NCAA appears to be letting them off the hook.  We need them to struggle for a year or two much more than MSU needs to struggle

It's a tough call, but I'd have to go with OSU also. They are not expected to win the Big Ten this season and might lose 2-4 games, so beating Sparty would be good. I, too, want them to be knocked off their short-live high horse. Their fans are becoming more and more like OSU fans have been in the past decade.

I seem to go back and forth on this one.   But more often than not, I tend to take pleasure in watching the bucks smacking sparty around.  OSU has rotated off of MSU's schedule many times over the years.  And it always seems to happen when OSU fields their strongest teams.

But in 1998, I absolutely loved it when a crappy 6-6 MSU team went into Columbus and knocked off OSU when they were ranked #1.  After the game ending interception when American's worst fanbase grew silent and John Cooper threw his hat in disgust, that was a thing of pure beauty.

I don't know.  This is hard to answer.  The best thing about this game is that one of them has to lose.

Always rooted for MSU to win this game. They can't handle any amount of sucess and will blow a couple games at the very least. Plus they won't win their bowl game which is always fun to watch.

I never "root" for either of these teams in football (though in basketball season I enjoy watching Izzo and the Sparties sometimes) but on principal I don't cheer for anything in the state of Ohio. I agree with goblueram though, it's better when we beat OSU to spoil a potential championship year, whereas with MSU that's usually not a concern. Whatever gives us the better chance of victory is who I hope wins.

and stadium collapse.

/s

Let me elaborate on the /s

1. I don't really want a stadium collapse.

2. I know games can no longer end in a tie, but I think they would make an exception if the stadium collapsed.

3. I don't really care who wins.
