The offense was too vanilla . We made it to easy for the MSU defense . In all facets of the game , Michigan was there own worst enemy .

He's not very good. I wish to God there was somebody better than him on the roster, but we all know there isn't because the last coaching staff had no idea what a good QB looked like and were even more incompetent at developing the ones they bungled their way into having.
God.

A 5th year QB who can't hit 1 receiver late in the fourth to sustain a drive. Don't hate the guy but he's a small game QB and it shows. 2 years before a competent QB emerges who isn't a product of the shit coachng from the last 8 years plus. Oh well.
October 17th, 2015 at 11:08 PM ^
No way. There's too much competition amongst talented players with good coaching for us to not have an upgrade at QB next year. It's not going to be Andrew Luck, but I think it's got to be better.

O'Korn, Speight, Gentry, Malzone, and then Peters, we'll have great competition.
Don't forget, with O'Korn sitting, he has lots of great time to just sit back and "observe".
Trust me, seeing these types of losses, is a perfect learning environment for O'Korn.
Yes the other QBs watch and observe as well, but they may have to be put in as well, so there's a degree in which they can't be total observers. Where O'Korn can, because he simply isn't even eleigible to be put in. And it makes a difference.
Pysch theories on Skill-Mastery call it an incubation period, and it is actually better than experience and practice itself, because it let's the learner observe something, that they could never observe if they were "in the moment". It sounds sort of paradoxical, but after thinking about it, it's common sense.
In short, we'll be solid next year. O'Korn is simply a guy who can "make all the throws".

I like Rudock as person - he seems like a good guy and the others respect him but he clearly isn't a someone that can win games via the pass. Knowing how injured DBs were it amazes me that we didn't test them more.

everyone is quick to blame Rudock. Why don't you blame Henry for a STUPID personal foul penalty that should have been a Spartan 4th down but ended in a touchdown drive? How about blame Delano Hill for letting the MSU FB get open for a 90 yard touchdown?

Jake is an ok QB but not someone who will win you a game. A win today would have been despite him not because of him. The contrast btw his abilities and Cook's were overwhelming.
He again overthrew an easy TD to Chesson which cost us pts and would have made any late drive by Sparty meaningless.
Kudos to either the Sparty staff or our bad decisions on completely erasing Butt.
Neither team could run as both teams played great run D but sadly if we didnt have rudock we probably dont even make this a game - esp if rudock is clearly better "it's not even close" to anyone else on the roster. That goes to the disaster of Hoke.
I also thought the OL played poorly most of the game. Calhoun Thomas and McDowell had their way most of the time while our DL until last drive (Henry) could not get pressure with 4.
We have a competent OL but thats all it is - guys like Mags were getting destroyed on many drives.
Sparty had 2 freshman safeties and we barely tested them all game. Because we don't have a QB with the ability.
It is what it is.

I agree with most of what you said and it is very reasonable but I would say Rudock is neutral to our success. He seems to be possibly overcorrecting for the Utah game (three picks) though maybe if we "turned him loose" that would be the result.
Just a very frustrating way to end that game. I know this was an understatement.
Chinga.

Blaming the prior staff for lack of quarterback development is getting old and will be totally illegitimate next season. If Harbaugh is the quarterback whisperer we think he is, there's no excuse for him not bringing along a good one next season from the gaggle of possibilites he'll have. There will have been ample time for development.

Or at least get another first down on that last drive. Oh well. I hope the players focus on getting better during the bye week, and don't beat themselves up too much.

I know this is probably blasphemy, but I put a large amount of the blame for this loss on the coaches. I felt like I was watching an Al Borgess called game in the second half; the play calls on first down were absolutely predictable and did not try to exploit the weakness of the opposing defense. Furthermore, I was shocked that O'Neil was not instructed to eat the ball if he had any issue with the snap - there were only two plays that could costs us the game, a return for a TD or Hail Mary.

Can't expect to win a game when you only pick up ten first downs. Wish Peppers had seen a few more touches on offense, could have been the difference we needed.

Rudock isn't good and that's why he lost his job at Iowa. MSU is very vunerable to deep throws but we couldn't really test that. People can blame the play-calling, but the coaches are doing what they can with what they have-- a weak QB. He barely his Darboh on what should have been a touchdown and then FUCKING OVERTHREW CHESSON for the millionth time this season. Our receivers aren't great, but they aren't the problem. We could have Devin Smith out there and it wouldn't matter because Rudock couldn't get him the ball. The offense and special teams have to be perfect with the offense and that's just too much to ask. I hope to hell that someday we get a good pass-first QB, because we haven't had one since Henne. It's depressing.

I didn't understand the Higdon move myself. And I'm excited for him in the futre.
But, a true-freshman back, in a Top 15, night game (ish), against MSU's DL with a couple future NFLers on the line?
And then runningup the gut?
I don't understand. At all.
I would have rather seen Smith, then Drake, then Isaac, then Kerridge & Houma, who all have way more experience and size. And more screens, short TE passes.
But hey, Harbaugh is Harbaugh, and there's probably a good reason that I'm not aware of that those were the calls.
