i refuse to even consider this a possibility
MSU Game Open Thread
What's your prediction M-Wolverine? How do you see the game unfolding?
But it's been a long time since I've had a game that I really can't get a feel on like this. A blowout either way would kind of surprise me (especially with the wether now), but I don't see MSU (or anyone in the Big Ten) as unbeatable, or frankly, very good. Unfortunately, that includes us. I think we've got a war on our hands.
but I suppose we'll find out soon enough. Anyways, here's to a good day of football.
I need LiveBlog. In good or bad it is always there for me.
but I see the game being frustratingly close unitl late in the 3rd. At which point we will go up by two scores and win by 13.
Until then, we get to watch this riveting last 1:35 of the Wisconsin/Iowa game
Worst time killer game ever.
Here is a life hack I found helpful today:
Uh...does that cupboard door close?
Boston College, you are irrelevant, stop being on television.
in both total # of comments and in total # of "fuck"s being said
The record for instances of "f*ck" this season (vowel omitted so the official count is not skewed) is 571 of them that were launched during the Penn State game. Those threads also set the board mark for "damn" as well at 162.
And more snowflakes threads (that will be quickly deleted) in history.
Have made that tough.
I had to drive through hail to get to my local bar. That's a good omen right?
I ikinda hope "suck" beats out "fuck" today. We need to change it up somehow.
I ikinda hope "suck" beats out "fuck" today. We need to change it up somehow.
You're doing your part for both.
Call it straight up, no home field advantage from them- we're going to be very happy
not dressing? More discipline problems for our team? Hoke will address "after" the game. Ughhh
Sounds like it from the white smoke around the situation.
Heitzman had an injury according to chatter on Twitter
Are we eschewing the liveblog today?
Tyler Hoover is out today. I am also hearing on the twitters that the UM players have been out on the field being a bit cocky/confident. I like that, hope it's true.
Please don't let this VA Tech and BC game go into overtime, I don't want it running into our game
Why do I hate 330 starts so much?
I like them, I was very productive this morning.
While I agree that productivity is potentially improved for me today there is something inherently irritating about not getting a noon game (like the majority from my youth).
State scores a defensive TD, MSU offense's turn to be horrible this week.
shit show. He will try to run the Norfleet jet sweep and think it is somehow unique and forget about the bubble screen.
Let's Go Blue!
Thank you Logan Thomas.
I live in Lansing and it is currently not raining. Good news!
Field looks like this?
Ya, thank you Logan for that turnover. Game time
in terms of the season; we lose this one we can kiss the division title goodbye. Losing to the Spartans for the fifth time in six games would be bad enough but to be a part of their run to the division championship...oh, that would suck.
Liking me some Logan Thomas right now!
Here's to a sick panicky feeling for the next 3ish hours
BRING ON THE LIQUID COURAGE!!!
Go Blue! Beat Michigan State!
Can we please not have this be close? I'd love a Wolverine blowout.
Wolverines on the Spartan logo at midfield! Jump around, fellas!
I'll take the small wins
That is one ugly trophy.
a tad miserable. That's got to favor the Spartans, they are a miserable bunch...
John Saunders (former M, then WMU, hockey player) just dropped a little brother comment. Oh snap
Really not feeling the fact that its raining. Devin Gardner doesn't need any extra obstacles
Guys can we PLEASE try to remain positive today? Someone already predicting a "Borges shit storm." Let's have fun, and keep the faith all day!
too much to ask huh?
Repaso single estate Tequila and a Dogfish 90 is my drink of choice. I dont have very high hopes for this game so if my comments go off the rails at some point in Borges calls a PSU game redux I apologize in advance.
Merlot, but this is the FIRST time I've watched a game while imbibing so I too shall apologize in advance for any missteps in verbage...oh, dear I think it's hitting me already...
She just said 45 degree's is very cold...
pregame speech for the Cavaliers, that fired me up for our game, GO BLUE!!!
Gardner should lead all rushers again, spartys defense is liklier to score more points than their offense. I expect sparty to take risks, I hope to God we play to win and maximize our effectiveness on offense.
We're going to struggle if we have to be passing and we're going to struggle to run either way. I feel a step up in feeling of doom
For the love of all that is good and decent, watch for the damn fake punt. It's going to happen in this game.
Big GAME yeah!!!! lets stay relevant in the BIG 10 championship this year!!!
Looking forward to a nice physical Michigan win.
Let's go BLUE.... Beat staee
Borges didn't run up the middle!!! Small victories!
There we go! Nice start!!
Jesus, Gallon is a monster.
Helmet to helmet????? No??
so helmet to helmet doesnt get called in this stadium?
Lead with the helmet
Hello Al Borges
WAS THAT A BUBBLE SCREEN!!!?!?
That is a screen that UM has actually ran quite a bit under Borges. A bubble screen is quicker developing.
Like that playcall though, always good to get the ball in Gallon's hands as much as possible.
Big physical WR...Jehu Chesson out physicals Darquez Dennard.
He's going to be enjoying that all day.
Positive rush yards?
Chucking it deep, throwing out of the I, running to the sidelines, I love it so far.
Check on Heiko
Phew. He's learning.
Funny how the ref has to explain football to the MSU fans...
My thought as well.
going for the receiving record early...
Give Gallon 1
Bad read by Fitz. He had a huge hole.
Yup. Big hole in the middle.
Everything going good until Borges can't help himself trying to run power...
I'd like to see us run a middle screen off the formation with 6 OL. linebackers crashed hard
later in the game.
Ahhh he just ran right by you, bro.
Great 2 plays there.
Sack killed the drive
Way to blow a good drive
Good Guys 3, Meanies nothing
Egads the protection sure blew up towards the end of that drive, hopefully Coach Borgess will set up something to counter that in the future...
That's the way to start it.
Under Center kills us. Ugh
In this game I will take 3 points. Lets go defense!
Give me the points every drive...fair enough. Clearly Michigan doing some stuff that's going to work.
That a boy Wile! I'll take it
Boom! Nice job Wile
wile uber field goals
That was pretty smooth...
Getting out of our own end was huge and getting points was gigantic. +1 for Al Borges
3 points on a very solid drive. I'd have loved a touchdown, but points are what we need.
Wow - should've had Wile attempt that last second 50 yarder against Penn State.
Hell yes I'll take that
I bet Narduzzi isn't going to let Gallon beat them, so a double move to the other side may be open
2nd and 10 play action killed us.
Shotgun formations took us down the field, and under center killed us. The story of our season.
Story of last three years
Ya i would stick with shotgun today against sparty's D.
Absolutely no complaints with offensive possession #1. Stretched the field, moved the ball and got points.
Nice job Mr. Borges.
It is now time to fcuk up Connor Cook's outcomes. This isn't the YSU defense.
Points on the first drive is always good
I like what I see so far
Hope the D can come out and make a statement. Can't lose on this side of the ball today.
Time for the D to step up!
Can't wait for Funchess time to begin.
He was wide open on the sack. WIDE OPEN
Great to see Devin not forcing it . Strong first drive. Fitz had a Hoke he missed but still a decent first drive.
Actually, encouraging first drive. We have to slow down the rush.
We ever go under center again?
I actually like MSU's all-greens. They look pretty sharp
Be the story of the game. Hold them to 17 or less and well win!
Not a bad first drive. Devin's definitely taking care of the ball so that's a good step in the right direction. We're not playing Oregon so even though TDs are preferable, we might not always need them.
Decent start. Nice move by Borges to go deep on the first play. Wile's kick looked good.
EDIT: And they just did the same thing. Fuck.
Jesus Christ. Seriously?
Was that play actually setup?
Make their FB look like fucking Gale Sayers.
That was a complete shit show.
Such a Sparty play.
Longest play of year against us!
Time to settle down and we can see what Muma/Geiger can do.
Such luck on that FG catch and run....
Connor Cook kind of throws it up there like Martinez; he's going to get picked multiple today.
Nice D after the fluke play.
Mattison locked it down after that initial missed sack.
12-10 final, Michigan wins. Calling it now
Aside from damn miraculous wide open FB screen, defense looked good
He goes for the fake F?
Sweet! Held them to a field goal.
I think he just knew his guy was going to be there open...
Complete fluke on that throw to the FB.
So all we have to do is not give up any more fluky plays that they pull out of their asses on a near sack and we'll be fine then.
Sync really well today, for whatever reason.
Devin needs to be more decisive with his runs.
another thing that gives me angst is the pirouetting he tends to do in the pocket when being chased...
Should have been a sack.
Sack should have happened.
Not a bad first drive by the defense. Other than the fluke "FB screen" it wasn't bad
I don't know the exact numbers, but UM's defense has seemed to miss more tackles so far this year.
Yes should have been a sack but good coverage by the secondary
Ok....we had a good drive and they got a nice sack. They had a long play on a blown coverage and we held.
Time to start over. Back to you Mr. Borges.......
Gardner and Denard on the sidelines together. I love it.
Keep throwing. Enough with the play action from under center. It takes way too long.
Need a TD on this drive.
Come on Borges, keep up the solid play calling
Can Jeremy Gallon take a punch to the mouth for every catch he makes?
Nice patience Norfleet! Didn't try to be a hero either. Well done.
Decent return by Norfleeet.
There ya go!
Keep airing it out!
Number 1 defense looking vulnerable so far
With how good this D is suppose to be they look suspect as shit
yeah we are lighting that scoreboard up
That should be there all day.
Funchess gonna Funchess. Feed that guy.
Didn't take the bait. Good defense by the best defense in the country.
Funchess talking junk to Drummond after he out-physicals him...Funny.
Our run game sucks. It's so painful to watch.
Seems every Fitz play - run or pass - yields nothing.
I think by the end of the day, Gardner will have 300 yards passing but will have been sacked 15 times
Devin is taking a pounding. I hope he holds up physically.
Why is Devin running into coverage instead of cutting it back!?
Why can the O-line not block three rushers...
Don't like the throwback screen. Never did like it.
The "throw more screens" crowd on the blog should be happy but can't have it both ways.
Yeah it's a risky across field throw and the qb has to stare down the penetration for a little longer than other screens, but when it works it's always a ton of yards. As long as it's done in moderation, there's zero reason not to like it.
We gotta stretch the field and counter this pressure. Not just one or twice, either.
Toussaint really hemorrhaging protection.
Devin really needs to learn how to stop going so far backwards when he gets pressure...
Agreed, turning a 4 yard loss into 8 does not help anything. But at least he is not doing anything crazy with the ball.
Are frustrating, but so are the INT's he was throwing earlier in the season
Difficult to step into the pocket when it collapses a second after the snap...
Devin sure gets into a lot of trouble when the rush is on. Hopefully he's not beginning to hear footsteps, the Spartans are bringing the pressure
Looks tentative. Better than throwing picks, though.
That's a play without much of an option b, at least he took care of the ball
Gardner looks hesitant to run so far?
I think bcause the coaches dont want him taking unnecessary hits, hes reluctant to run
Keep them pinned in their own end and we're still in good position... So far have avoided the three and outs and turnovers that really start to unravel a game plan against this team.
I would rather have a sack than a pick. Our line is getting abused - Gardner is going to have to get rid of the ball fast.
Keep passing downfield to Gallon and Funches please. Might be time to go Detroit Lions and pass on every down downfield.
No shit cause we sure as hell cant run the ball.
Well I guess I'd rather be giving up sacks than picks. At least Gardner is protecting the ball.
That being said, their D is looking vulnerable. I would exploit that Funchess mismatch all day if I could.
The nature of their scheme makes them vulnerable, provided you can get enough blocking to get someone open downfield. A lot of one-on-one coverage to go after if we can block.
Slow developing plays don't work against an attack defense.
I would rather he takes a sack then throws a pick. Keep hitting Funch should be a mismatch most of the game.
Playing not to lose means one thing-a loss
How about some more quick horizontal passes?
So far this game hasn't surprised at all. Good defense by Sparty. Bad offense by Sparty.
Just have to survive the beginning game jitters and play from there.
Honestly, our offense is doing better than I expected.
Seems so obvious. Quick passes or simple deep balls, like seam or fly routes. Can't make Gardner hold the ball too long, or bad things happen.
Yeah but the receivers have to get separation.
Odd to see from a Mattison defense. At least they still got the stop with a sure tackle on 3rd down, after missing one second down.
Good job Raymon!
Good job D!
Hell of an open field stop taylor
Like the grass stains on the unis too, Grrrr!!!
Nice 3 n out.
I may have missed this but why has Ross been replaced as a starter?
This is the Sparty pass offense I watched versus Purdue (*mine eyes*)
3 yard unders over and over.
I hope the D stays consistently like that.
What do we go to next?
The 3rd down and longs where the bring pressure is where Dileo could have really helped today.
with the only minor surprise being our choice to air it out
double moves double moves- they are biting
They are bringing the house on every play.
Looks like DG might have gotten rolled up on on that little scramble. Hobbled a bit getting up
Kyle Bosch looking mostly solid so far.
Hold of course.
Well, at least we have time to audible today.
Under ferret, damnit!!!!
Greatest auto-correct ever?
Jesus. Garnder is terrified out there right now.
Devin what theheck get rid of the dang ball or run.
Roll him out?
What the heck is going on out there!
The damn ball, devin
Horrid clock in Devins head. He needs to get rid of the ball.
The line isnt holding up at all
When the first read isnt open, the pocket is already completely collapsed
Having no ability to run is killing Michigan.
Holy mother of God.
4th sack of the day by the Spartans. Spread it out now to alleviate the pressure.
Lawl they were 4 wide there....good call
FIRE THE OLINE
Holding the ball too long, though some of the routes are slow developing.
Jinxed Kyle Bosh. Also, Michigan needs to figure this Shalique Calhoun.
This line is a fucking sieve right now
olines getting their fucking asses handed to them
Is so god damn bad
He'll is going on right now
So three and out means three sacks in a row and out now??
Not so nice O by us, time for some adjustments...
It's kind of an embarassment for a program that bases its whole identity on trench play yet gets so thoroughly dominated on the lines. Something's just not right here.
Fuck off? He's right!
Kali's keeps losing playing time.
Losing the field position battle.
I was really hoping States defense wouldn't treat our oline like little bitches.
This is totally going to be another 12-10 game. Who ends with the 12 is anyone's guess at this point
At this rate their gonna break the record for number of sacks
Deep shot on 1st down
Their secondary was getting killed and now we start the bad play calling.
As a Browns fan Gardner is reminding me a LOT right now of Brandon Fucking Weedon. Hold the ball, hold the ball, hold the ball, SACKED!
Woof. Lets hope the defense continues to hold the rope.
I'm going to break something.
Throw. The. Ball. Or. Run.
LaGarrette Kings talking crap after getting a ten yard cushion on that return is silly.
Also, Thomas Gordon would kill him.
We need the D to come up with a TO.
Can green block? He's gotta be better than Fitz. This is awful
This may be the worst O line in the history of the world.
and our defensive line makes a statement of it's own...
Thank god MSU's offense leaves a lot to be desired, because our O-line isn't giving Gardner any time to do anything.
Thankfully we won't face a defense anywhere near as good as this one after today.
I remember before the season started I thought our O-line would be one of our strongest units. How horribly wrong was I. They are easily the weakest link in the Wolverine's chain.
I can only thank God that Connor Cook missed that pass.
What in the world made you think that?? I'm really curious.
Obviously, it was my stupidity.
Get the ball back and get the offense going!
Frank Clark Sighting.
Also, JMFR = arm punt.
We're very fortunate that Cook sucks
Cook is not good.
It is a good thing Cook is terrible. He has had guys open the whole game.
Not sure why we aren't rushing more guys at him. If he's now with 3 guys not getting to him, I can't imagine what a little more would do to his decision making...
If Cook continues like this, we might have an easy day on defense....
Connor Cook, everyone.
This game is MSU's offense vs MSU's defense.
He was wide open, hate 3 man rushes with this d-line not being a great unit.
Probably better off making Connor Cook make a lot of decisions quickly.
