MSU game at noon on ESPN
October 3rd, 2011 at 10:59 AM ^
Wow. Very surprised ABC took OSU/Illinois as the 330 game.
October 3rd, 2011 at 11:05 AM ^
I mean they ARE playing for that super awesome and extremely well known trophy, the IlliBuck.
<sarcasm>
October 3rd, 2011 at 11:29 AM ^
In that case, the PSU-OSU trophy should be the ShruteBuck.
October 3rd, 2011 at 11:07 AM ^
Maybe ABC thinks that the big story will be OSU falling apart after Tressel's departure and lots of fans will tune in at 3:30 pm rooting against the Buckeyes all over B1G country and across the rest of the country as well.
October 3rd, 2011 at 11:15 AM ^
we probably had higher ratings post App State, than we had for years before. I barely needed or used BTN the past four years.
October 3rd, 2011 at 11:02 AM ^
I can finally watch a game after four straight BTN broadcasts! (Can't get BTN on DISH up here in Alaska).
October 3rd, 2011 at 11:36 AM ^
At all? Like, not even on a superduper fancy sports package?
October 3rd, 2011 at 4:33 PM ^
I didn't realize they altered services based on location. Isn't it the same national satellite?
October 3rd, 2011 at 11:05 AM ^
is because they know Michigan is going to win by atleast elevendy billion, give or take.
October 3rd, 2011 at 11:06 AM ^
That completely ruins plans I had for a nice fall color round of golf prior to the game.
How in the hell they think OSU/ILL is a better game than UM/MSU is beyond me.
October 3rd, 2011 at 11:06 AM ^
I'm digging these noon kickoffs. Gives me time to nap during the later afternoon games.
I am an old man.
October 3rd, 2011 at 11:09 AM ^
I have a wedding reception to attend that evening. I was worried that the game would be at 3:30 and would be forced to watch on my android, which would inevitably get poor reception and lead to me losing my mind.
October 3rd, 2011 at 11:48 AM ^
same here! i have a wedding tht is just down the street at 330p...this is awesome
October 3rd, 2011 at 1:16 PM ^
Why do people insist on getting married on a football Saturday?! Especially when it's Michigan residents and it's the day of the UM - MSU game?! I just don't get it. At least the game is before the wedding I'm going to as well (5pm). But I'll probably have to listen to the game on the radio... and that is way more nerve-racking than watching it in my opinion.
October 3rd, 2011 at 11:11 AM ^
After Minny/Purdue this weekend as the only BIG 10 nooner on the ESPN networks, they are probably loving the fact that at least a quality Big 10 game is available in the noon slot the following week.....
October 3rd, 2011 at 11:13 AM ^
not that anyone should care, but YES! i have a 6PM flight to italy and now can watch the whole thing.
October 3rd, 2011 at 11:15 AM ^
I love the noon games - I get so worked up on game day that it's nice to have the game happen early. I hate the wait from College Game Day til Kickoff.
Even thought the night game might have been the best thing of all time, I almost lost my mind having to wait for 8 hours for kickoff.
I like the noon start for big games
October 3rd, 2011 at 11:21 AM ^
because it gives me an even better reason to completely derail the rest of my weekend with alcohol.
October 3rd, 2011 at 11:31 AM ^
I prefer either 3:30 or night games, but regarding alcohol, it's amazing what a Michigan win does for me. It's just a huge relief when it happens and I am obviously in such a better mood and totally down for boozing. When they lose, I just want to be by myself and I don't drink anything. I just casually watch the night games, but while doing so, I have awful images in my head of the other team celebrating when Michigan loses. Sucks.
Thankfully that hasn't happened yet this year.
October 3rd, 2011 at 11:25 AM ^
Thank GOD we get a break from the Big Ten Network.
For some reason, Penn State gets their games with Temple and Eastern Michigan broadcast on ESPN while we have 4 straight weeks of BTN games. Never understood that.
I like the noon start too.
October 3rd, 2011 at 11:42 AM ^
What's good for WolverineHistorian is good for all of us.
October 3rd, 2011 at 11:41 AM ^
October 3rd, 2011 at 11:50 AM ^
Sooooo...does this mean it is on ESPN3 as well? I'm poor and do not have cable. I do, however, have internet and an XBox.
October 3rd, 2011 at 11:51 AM ^
FYI, the reason why we sometimes end up on BTN over ABC or ESPN is because there are certain weeks when the BTN gets the first pick of games.
October 3rd, 2011 at 12:20 PM ^
There are some weeks when BTN gets the second pick, but ABC/ESPN always get the first pick for the 330 game.
October 3rd, 2011 at 11:54 AM ^
from the couches.
October 3rd, 2011 at 12:10 PM ^
That sucks. That sucks.
That sucks.
That is a 3:30 game, not a noon game. It will be a strange noon kickoff. ESPN Fail.
October 3rd, 2011 at 12:14 PM ^
That means less tailgating time for MSU fans and thus, a weakened homefield advantage for them.
October 3rd, 2011 at 12:19 PM ^
ESPN noon. Is it a Pam Ward call for god sake? It is very possble that both of those teams are going to be Top 15 teams. And OSU/Illinois instead as the ABC game at 3:30? I just don't get the reasoning behind this one.
And I don't think it weakens the home field advantage. This way State students don't get too drunk to make it to the game and actually end up going.
This dissapoints me.
October 3rd, 2011 at 12:55 PM ^
It makes a difference. Students are loud regardless, but the non-students won't be nearly as much when it's noon. They'll still have a pretty good homefield advantage, but at 3:30 it would be electric.
October 3rd, 2011 at 2:42 PM ^
Our default setting as Michigan fans should always be rooting for a noon kickoff for road games, IMO. The homefield advantage will never be bigger at noon than when compared to 3:30 or 7/8. Drunk 40 year olds are a lot louder than sober ones.
I understand the later time slots offer more cache and more of an audience. But, if we win or at least increase our chances of winning (even if by only a tiny fraction of a percent), they could play the game in my backyard at 5:30 am and I'd be cool with it.
October 3rd, 2011 at 1:33 PM ^
They start pretty early in East Lansing. I drove by the Sparty exits from I-96 at 9:30 on my way to the SDSU game. Traffic was already backed up a good 1/2 mile on to the freeway. Hide your flammables is what I'm saying, even for a noon kickoff.
October 3rd, 2011 at 12:33 PM ^
Well, this sucks for me. I have a 2:00 flight from Tampa back to Cleveland. I was hoping to watch this on the DVR and catch up to live by the middle of the second half.
Am I imagining it, or was this game posted on MGoBlue.com to be a 3:30 start? I thought that had been pretty much decided -- i.e. not a TBA start.
October 3rd, 2011 at 12:51 PM ^
NOON? Great. Now I'll have to worry about missing the first bit of the game while taking my Chem GREs. Who schedules premier rivalries at noon?
October 3rd, 2011 at 1:12 PM ^
Michigan vs Ohio State has been a noon start 18 of the last 20 years, I believe. And that rivalry is much bigger than UM/MSU.
October 3rd, 2011 at 1:18 PM ^
Well at least now we know. And I'm happy about this, I don't think I could handle the extra 3 hours of anticipation, even if it meant watching OSU's general silliness beforehand
October 3rd, 2011 at 1:29 PM ^
MASSIVE FAIL by ESPN.
Ohio State is not a prime time team. They are also not a 3:30 team when they play a middling program like Illinois. Not anymore.
What the hell is going on over at Disney Sports to where they are picking this of all years to feature the Buckeyes more prominently than usual?
October 3rd, 2011 at 1:29 PM ^
October 3rd, 2011 at 2:06 PM ^

...and a noon kickoff is to our advantage.
October 3rd, 2011 at 1:35 PM ^
October 3rd, 2011 at 1:43 PM ^
to be a night game. Additionaly, I heard that they were planning to do their own type of "Under the Lights" (like when they hosted ND last year) for it since they will be wearing their lame Nike Pro Combat uni's
October 3rd, 2011 at 2:00 PM ^
This is pretty annoying for those of us on the West Coast. 9 AM is too early to barbecue.
October 3rd, 2011 at 2:55 PM ^
FUCKING HORSE SHIT
October 3rd, 2011 at 3:17 PM ^
WOW. I thought for sure this would be an ABC game. Noon start kind of shocks me too.
