MSU bumper sticker

Submitted by 2Blue4You on

I am driving around Metro Detroit the other day and I see a bumper sticker that is all green and white and it says "MSU is THE University of Michigan"  (emphasis on THE like OSU does).  If it wasn't green and white I would not have known what to make of it and even then I was like WTF?

While on pointless subjects to help bridge the time until Saturday, did anyone else notice the brief frame shot of Vincent Smith on the 4th and 1 in the 3rd quarter?  He lines up to the right of Denard and looks straight at the NW linebackers and makes both hands into guns and pulls the trigger.  Then they ran straight at him and picked up the first down, I loved it.

Go Blue!

I remember seeing V Smith do that, but can't recall when.  There was only one 4th down conversion and it was in the 2nd quarter.  I watched that play and didn't see anything...

I remember that with Smith!  I remember laughing when I see his neon yellow gloves come up from below the screen as he points his "hand"guns downfield.  I just imagined a "pew pew pew" noise before the snap.

Truly awesome.

Vincent did point and shoot, and I chalked it up to him pointing out the MIKE or something like that.  As a third down back, he regularly points toward an opposing linebacker, and I just thought it was his creative way of changing it up and having a little fun with it.  Either way, I like it!  Had I not deleted it from the DVR to make room for my wife's Grey's Anatomy, Revenge, or whatever show she is recording tonight, I'd go back and get a screen shot of it.  And I'd have a new avatar.

I've spotted a few "If you cant get into college go to state" stickers...

but might I suggest:

"MSU: not all our graduates are Libyan terrorists"

"You can play in the Big House or you can play in the Halfway House"

"Yes, I want fries with that"

"Get the F off my court"

and

"You're 5 minutes late, I'm not paying fo that pizza"

When I took a campus tour at MSU about 5 years ago, the admissions salesman came in and the first thing he said was "I want to clear things up that despite what you may have heard from Ann Arbor, THIS is THE University of Michigan." I thought it was kind of weird at the time and looking back it seems more pathetic.

At the tour I took at Michigan (where I ended up), they didn't even mention any other schools, which I would expect. They just showed an awesome video featuring James Earl Jones.

Now, I could see them making that claim if they were the oldest University in the State of Michigan but they are not.  They aren't even the oldest public university in the State of Michigan.  In both regards, Michigan has them beat by a long shot.  Hell, even Eastern is an older University than State.    They aren't even THE Green and White University as they stole EMU's colors.  So whatever.

Trust me, the reason they work so hard on trying to position themselves on par (let alone above) UM is out of pure unadulterated inferiority.  They know who they are.  They know the score when it comes to the two schools - by ANY measure.

That's why Mike Hart's "little brother" comment hurt so badly.  They're still frothing at the mouth on that one because it struck the very nerve they deny ever existed.  That's why Mike Hart is one of my Top 5 All-Time Wolverines :-)

That Sparty bumper sticker is pretty old.

I went to Spartan Stadium in 1997 to watch them play Western.  When we left, we stopped at a McDonalds in EL and the car parked next to us had that exact same bumper sticker.  Laughable then, laughable now.

Little Brother Syndrome:  A condition which causes you to strongly desire to be like your big brother.  In the worst cases, the victim actually thinks they have become the big brother.  Sometimes referred to as an "Inferiority Complex", "Napoleaonic Complex" or "Short Man's Disease".  Used more generally to describe people who are driven by a handicap which causes them to try to overcompensate in other aspects of their lives

with little boys. The Fighting Pederasts is what they ought to be called. When I read a history of the Spartans and saw that they did this I immediately realized two things: a) the Spartans were a disgusting people and b) this is ammuno to use against latter day Spartans.

This same bumper sticker is on a cabinet at my job. I just shook my head and gave it laugh of pity. It's just like the t-shirt that says "Michigan State is football." To quote Stewie, "Whatever helps you sleep at night bitch!" I think it's hilarious that the term "little brother" has made into the sports lexicon. Ann Arbor is a whore? Nice try guys.

has one, with predictable, similar results--Florida is the flagship school, the more highly regarded U (ca. 15th ranked public U vs. 65 or something for FSU). My wife went to UF, teaches at FSU, finds it all vaguely amusing that people take such sh*t so seriously. Meanwhile, she goes to FSU soccer games and screams herself hoarse for the Nole women.

i.e. "Virginia Tech. THE University of Virginia" which is actually sort of true. I knew way more Hokie fans than UVA fans. I'm sure some place sells a sticker like that for every school not named the University of _______.

"Colorado School of Mines. THE University of Colorado"
