MSU to announce Gholston suspension tomorrow

Submitted by gebe659 on

Apparently Mark Dantonio will hold a press conference tomorrow and will announce the suspension of William Gholson (number of games unknown). This per my friend in the athletic department.

Confirmation of at least the press conference "addressing Gholston situation" on twitter:

Agreed. It's all about optics. If Dantonio really wanted to be proactive, he should have sat him for the rest of the game. The more I learn about how he runs the MSU program, the less respect I have for him as a person. And that amount of respect is currently so low that it's the opposite of respect.

Obviously one occured during the game and one happened after. But a punch is a punch. Right? If you add Gholstons other attempts to purposly injure players with dirty plays shouldn't his punishment be more than the one or two games that most are calling for. Not that he will get that. Just curious why the consensus for Blount was "throw him out of football", while it seems like people would be content with a one game suspension. I know that mouton got a game (should have been more imo) but that was before the Blount incident.

Listen, I'm no defender of Tom Gholston. Truthfully I find the facemask twist to be FAR worse. It's just that punching someone with a helmet is a cheap shot and frankly stupid, punching someone without a helmet on can break their orbital or jaw. I'm just saying the Blount punch and the Gholston one are objectively different and don't call for the same punishment.

1) Denard Beheading Attempt.
2) TL arm breaking attempt.
3) punching a lineman in the neck.
Dude's an asshole. I think a fitting punishment would be for him to have to be on field for every offensive and defensive play for the game (NTTG) next year. I'd like to see it, and I think our players would too.

It makes me feel warm and fuzzy inside knowing what is cooking at MSU. Dantonio is doing the taxpayers a favor by keeping watch over this football program, otherwise there would be overcrowded prisons.

1. Ski mask taken away

2. No suspension for Wisconsin. Dantonio feels playing Wisconsin's OL is punishment enough

3. No practice

4. Absolutely no ripping other players face masks for 1 full game

5. Must not punch a Michigan player during the M-MSU game for the rest of the year

Why do you think they are announcing tomarrow? The brain trust is gathering in the war room to come up with the sneakiest punishment possible, which will allow him to miss nothing and not actualy be a punishment. Kind of like winstons 180 day "suspension". At least hoke said he was redshirting stonum, dantonio suspended sims for the year and redshirted him without saying anything.

I think that suspension might be my favorite Dantonio suspension.

"I got it....let's let the state of Michigan suspend him and we will take credit for it. Maybe no one will notice he will be in jail."

Did we hold a press conference specifically to announce that Mouton was suspended for 1 game? Did Illinois do this when they suspended their player?

Maybe it's the optimist in me speaking, but maybe we are looking at a harsher suspension than we expected?...

With Mouton, it was unexpected. It was a new pollicy/action plan enforced by Delany. And if memory serves me, Delany hit us with it on a Thursday, with little or no time to do any reps with a replacement for Mouton.

Remind me who the Illinois player was.

Kurt Coleman (OSU) got suspended for a helmet-to-helmet play versus Illinois. By comparison, that was ordinary football, a little aggressive, and the Conference announced it as soon as they had reviewed that film.

Zach Reckman was suspended in much the same way. Both were announced by the Conference; no team press conferences, just announcements.

Dantonio is going to announce that when the inevitable happens, and Gholston has to spend time in jail, he'll have to catch his own ride to the practice field.... and will not pass Go.

Dantonio apparently is doing the right thing...but if he doesn't his hand is forced to. Wish he would have released this Sunday instead of waiting to see public opinion with neutral blogs calling MSU "ThugU."

Common. I mean who amoung us hasn't punched somebody in the neck in an attempt to break their windpipe and then tried to tear a defenseless opponent head off their neck by using a facemask as a weapon?

He who is without sin cast the first stone here.

wow....i just read the first few and they're priceless to say the least. Here's my personal favorite....

"If what was rumored to have been said to him is true, I don't blame him for the punch. I'll go along with what Dantonio says should happen, because he's always doing what he feels is best for both the kid and the program. However, if true, he should have follwed up with a body slam and a couple of kicks."

"You could argue that Big Will was diving into the pile when his hand landed on Denard's face mask and his momentum carried him to twist the facemask."

This one is so ridiculously absurd. It pleases me.

"They say that Dantonio is classless and wouldn't suspend him. Then when Dantonio does suspend him it's only because he knows that the B1G would have suspended him for 3 games and Dantonio is trying to cheap out of it. Really a bunch of piles of shit on that board."

I feel honored for being mentioned in their posts.

I wasn't thrilled to see the Denard facemask, headsnap stuff. Will needs to learn to keep that stuff "in the pile" .. not on the fringes where the cameras can see it. If a suspension teaches him that, so be it.

So, to add to their prison motif, they go by the Dirty Dozen philosophy that the mistake was "you let someone see you do it..."

He should probably be given one of those pokey things and have to clean up the swirling trash heap that is Spartan Stadium. This of course will last well into the 2012 season.
