@Trey_Burke3 My advice, believe in YOUR heart & mind, everything else is interference. People u seek out is better than those that seek u.

Let me get this straight.  Mark Hollis sought out Trey Bruke to advise him not to listen to people who seek him out?  Classic Sparty.

Isn't that an NCAA violation?

I thought contacting kids at another school without permission was tampering?

Pretty sound

Not sure if it's really from Hollis, but the advice seems both relevant and pretty accurate.

" People u seek out is better

" People u seek out is better than those that seek u."

what is u?  Is this some sort of algebra problem hidden in a poorly formed sentence?  Or maybe he has a 13 year old daughter who was on his twitter account.

I was hoping I wouldn't have to encounter people who still type "u" after high school... although I guess MSU and high school are pretty comparable.

Hollis only needed to use

Hollis only needed to use five more characters to change the two "u"'s into "you" and the "is" into "are."  But hey, if you like having him represent your university that way, so be it.

Yes

You is correct.

However, he had enough remaining letters to use "people are" instead of "people is," and using the more correct "those who" over "those that" would have saved a letter.

Seriously

Seriously. Roy Roundtree sends a congratulatory tweet to a kid at his former H.S. and it's an NCAA violation, but the A.D. of a school can tweet this to the player on a team in the same conference. It's not a 1-to-1 comparison, but it doesn't jive the right way.

Is this even appropriate??

It has to be some kind of violation for an official at another school to be in direct contact with a current Michigan athlete, right?  If not, it should be!  (For you lawyers out there, this seems akin to a laywer contacting a represented party directly without opposing counsel being included.  Big no-no!)

What's worse...

Hollis' Tweet was in response to a Burke tweet. To see it, Hollis is either following Burke on Twitter. Or he searched for him on Twitter. Sparty's gonna Spart.

Nice Sparty grammar   In

Nice Sparty grammar

In fairness though, previous to Hollis saying that Burke tweeted the following:

Trey Burke ‏ @Trey_Burke3

EVERYONE got something to say... smh I thought this was my life!

So admittedly it may be Hollis just giving him advice...and in this case it seems like genuinely good advice

Why do people think this is

Why do people think this is good advice?  Burke is a 19-year-old kid.  At that age he's likely to have an inflated view of his ability.   Hollis telling him "Go with your heart" sounds to me like "Go ahead and leave school."

I'd be curious to see if Hollis has ever said something like this to one of his own student-athletes.

Fair enough I guess. I was referring more to the "People you seek out are better than those that seek you out" - which I would agree with.

Hollis knows a thing or two about point guards going pro who shouldn't have, am i rite?

I don't know. I fail to see this as a huge deal. He shouldn't have tweeted it but if they saw each other in person he could have said the same thing.

I wholeheartedly agree. This is dumb advice. The best advice Burke can get is: listen to the NBA undergraduate advisory committee (or whatever it's called), your parents, and your coach.

"Go with your heart" is usually terrible advice, anyway.

If it was me that was considering going pro, the person I would find most insightful on advice would be the rival AD of my school.

Yep, makes total sense.

WTF?

WTF is up with ADs these days?  Why can't they just administrate like administrators do and stay the f-ck out of the public eye?  I'll tell you why - they are egotistical maniacs who crave attention.  Here's some advice to all you ADs out there:  Do your jobs like everyone else and shut the f-ck up.

The Roy Roundtree thing

The Roy Roundtree thing wasn't allowed because the kid was  a recruit. Coaches aren't even allowed to say a recruits name to the media until LOI's are in. NCAA has some weird rules, because i know that twitter thing happens all the time.

Burke tweeted that everyone is trying to tell him what to do, and Hollis said to listen to his mind and seek the help of people he wants. I dont understand the outrage over it? Maybe its the rival school thing, but Hollis's job is to make money for the school, and a better Michigan team means more money coming in for the game against michigan. also hollis loves to help the state of michigan (like scheduling home and homes with CMU and EMU to help them out. sigh)

I did, and if Dave Brandon tweeted this to say, Jerel Worthy, I wouldn't mind. Telling him to follow his heart and don't listen to everyone else. It's classy to support a young kid who's making a tough life changing decision, all rivalries aside.

When he's "supporting" a guy who basically JUST said "Holy balls please leave me alone," it's a little out of place.

Besides, if you think he's doing this for the best interest of the State of Michigan, you've inhaled too much couch smoke.

I promise that if Worthy was on the fence and Brandon was sending him unsolicited, rather cryptic tweets about his NFL decision, MSU fans would be up in arms about it.  And rightfully so.  it might not be evil, but it's awkward and inappropriate.  Hollis is there for MSU athletes, his services aren't needed for ours.

Let's stop with the "it's good advice" thing.  It's not.  Burke needs to hear the voices that have some idea about his draft prospects.

It's no coincidence that Hollis wrote this shortly after a whole bunch of experts advised Burke to stay in school.

Hollis doesn't get when to talk and when not to talk. There's this, and then I think sometime last year he said somthing like "I'll take a better program over a better season any day" after we beat them in basketball. Let's just call it what it is. He is trying to convince Trey to leave because if he does, then that makes Michigan less dangerous. He's afraid of us and what we can do to that program with more head to head wins and a few more good recruits. He's afraid if Michigan keeps winning, then Michigan State becomes 2nd best in our state. He'll do whatever he can to prevent that.

I was joking about examples,

I was joking about examples, although I would like to hear your thoughts on certain users if we ever had a private conversation. I think I remember hearing that you're not around EL any more, but I'll actually be on-campus at MSU in early May.

I guess I'm confused what you consider honesty among Michigan fans. Is that a comment on the rivalry, like the post you were responding to, or a more general statement (which would have much bigger implications, obviously) about fans on a macro level? Referencing jmblue makes me lean towards the latter, only because I don't recall him being involved in this discussion. I agree that his posting level is up there, and I can certainly see why you admire his posts, given your internet personas.

Edit: About the rivalry...I do see it as the bigger rivalry outside of football. Given a choice between beating Ohio hockey/MBB and MSU, I would take MSU 10/10 times under normal circumstances.

I was going to argue that

I was going to argue that "unprofessional" is too strong a word;  I think it's well-meant yet absolutely wrong.  And its embarrassing when an AD does something in violation of NCAA rules, as this was.  But the more I thought about it, and what an amateurish error it was, I think "unprofessional" is the right word after all.

Of course Gene Smith still takes the cake, but we all knew that (and you said as much)

At any rate, I heartily ennjoyed seeing David Brandon's pimp hand on twitter, calling it "wrong" and "not appropriate."
