This is SO. WEIRD. I saw no less than 3 opossum dead on the road on the way to work literally just this morning and thought "WTF? Are all the marsupials committing suicide?!?!"

I was biking through the neighborhood with my 2 daughters, niece, and nephew last weekend. In the road was an opossum that had been hit by a car. Gruesome to look at, with entrails spilling out, but the worst part (and the kids are 9, 10, 11, and 12) was that it had babies. There were 3 possum babies dead in the road and another baby stuck under the mother's body. The head was underneath and hind legs sticking out - and it was still alive. There was nothing we could do for it, so we just left it. My 9 year old cried most of the rest of the way to the playground.
