MRacing Finishes 2nd at Formula Student Germany Competition

Submitted by MGoShoe on

Michigan's MRacing team finished 2nd of 91 teams at the Formula Student Germany competition that just concluded at the Hochenheim racetrack.

This is the one of the best international finishes in the team's history. The students finished first in acceleration, second in endurance and third in autocross.

The MRacing team builds its car from the ground up and competes in two major events each year. In May, the team had its best finish in 16 years at the SAE Collegiate Design Series competition at Michigan International Speedway, finishing second overall and setting an acceleration record.

The MRacing blog has the details:

MRacing made the run up to the stage twice at last night's awards ceremony, once for winning the acceleration event and again for placing 2nd in the competition!! Both times we were jumping up and down singing "It's great to be a Michigan Wolverine!"

  • Business: 40th (54.44 points)
  • Cost: 48th (63.92 points)
  • Design: 5th (125 points)
  • Skidpad: 6th (59.96 points)
  • Acceleration: 1st (75 points)
  • Autocross: 3rd (96.78 points)
  • Endurance: 2nd (287.6 points)
  • Fuel Efficiency: 20th (55.18 points)
  • Overall: 2nd (814.89 points)

TU Delft took 1st place (866.56 points), and UAS Zwickau took 3rd (776.87 points)

Congratulations to the team for this outstanding result.  The team's legacy of excellence in these competitions is a perfect complement to the more well known accomplishments of the M Solar Car Team, well chronicled here and is testatment to U-M's stellar College of Engineering.

When I was a student the Formula car folks were always spending a crazy amount of time on their car. For some reason they don't get as much love from the campus at large as the solar car team does. Great to see them continuing the winning tradition. GO BLUE! You certainly earned it.

I was on the team in '92.  We used to have to break into the auto lab after hours to work on the car.  There wasn't a lot of help from the university, but everyone on the team worked their butts off.

We have no idea how hard this team worked for this.  It is a great opportunity for hands on engineering experience.

We love a Michigan win no matter what it's in.

Thanks from an impressed alumni.

Go Blue!
