ORLANDO, Fla. -- University of Michigan senior linebacker Jonas Mouton (Los Angeles, Calif./Venice) will participate in the 86th East-West Shrine Game, held this Saturday, Jan. 22, at the Florida Citrus Bowl in Orlando, Fla.

Mouton played in 12 games this past season, leading the Big Ten in tackles (117). He also added 8.5 tackles for loss, two sacks, two interceptions, forced two fumbles and recovered another fumble.

Football greats, such as John Elway, Tom Brady, Brett Favre and 62 NFL Hall of Famers have played in the East-West Shrine Game, America's longest-running college all-star football game. While the teams are divided by East and West, the players come together for the beneficiary of the event, Shriners Hospitals for Children®, a pediatric specialty health care system of 22 hospitals.

The game will be broadcast live on the NFL Network at 4 p.m. EST.

Congratulations to Mouton for this achieving this selection. It's certainly a great opportunity to increase his chances of making it to the next level.

around 4th-5th rd.  great athlete with good size.  needs to work on LB instincts but those can be taught and he's probably a great special teams player in the mean time.

The coaching seems to have been terrible, but something like taking the outside shoulder to funnel a RB inside is fundamental even back to high school.  What the hell do I know, but contain and assignments were broken so often this year that some of that has to be on the player.  But he is a physical beast who hits sharply and with authoritah.  Probably a frustrating project in the pros as he was here (I agree with above great special team'er).  We'll always have that sack against Illinois, and he did represent, yo.

Congratulations Jonas!

It still blows my mind that Mel Kiper not only lists Ezeh on his linebacker list but ahead of Mouton.  Maybe he hasnt updated it in 4 years or believes that the coaching was just terrible and he would have been better.  Slightly confused.

I feel bad for Mouton.  He has a TON of physical gifts - big, strong, fast.  But, he has really suffered from all of the defensive chaos surrounding our program.

I can't help but think that if he had a consistent staff (or position coach) for his entire tenure, running a consistent scheme, his career might have turned out differently.

I really I hope that Jonas makes it at the next level.

Congrats to Mouton. If he gets drafted, I think the team will notice that they have picked up a good player that will be a pretty decent NFL LB, IMO. He has the size and ability and hopefully having stable coaching around him will make him a good defender.

The all-star games are perfect for a player like Mouton.  He's got great physical skills, but tends to make 4-5 crazy mental errors per game.  Since the all-star games basically require the defense to sit in a base 4-3, he should be able to showcase his skills without showcasing the downside.  Good luck to him.

his draft stock was fairly high at the beginning of the season, but with the horrible overall team defense that we played this year, I think his talents were overshadowed. hope he does good this week and impresses scouts
