Mother Nature Middle Fingers Southern Football

Submitted by jtmc33 on

So year in and year out we all complain that Big 10 bowl games are in the balmy home region of the southern schools giving them home field advantage. We always bitch, rightfully so, for a game up North so these teams can play in real football weather.

Well, mother nature gave us some insight this year into how those southern schools would do in real football weather--- home field advantage or not.

Wisconsin beat Miami, in Orlando, when it was 30 degrees: Miami came out after pre-game warm-ups with long sleeve shirts and some Hurricances were wearing masks. Miami fans were miserable wrapped in blankets wearing ski masks... Wisconsin fans were having a blast. I believe that Miami was very effected by the weather in that game.

Iowa over GT in Miami, 47 degrees. That is November weather in every Big 10 stadium.

Penn St over LSU in Orlando... it wasn't below freezing on 1/1/10, but, it was way below average

Mother Nature is a Big 10 fan!

Get a few drinks in me and I will middle finger Mother Nature if she still looks decent.

Edit: Sorry for the misogynistic post. Already had those few drinks and crossed a line. Moving on, this mother nature is hot.

Would be an excellent annual venue for a Big Ten championship game, should the conference go that direction.

I'd prefer it be in the same place every year, but of course in the real world it would probably rotate between several major cities. But still, Chicago itself and a historic stadium like Soldier Field would make for a relatively neutral site compared to, say, Detroit or Cleveland, if a same-state (as the venue) school were to play in the game.

On the UVA board one of the comments was "I can't believe anyone's at this game: bad matchup, bad date, cold weather."

Matchup is subjective (though I liked it), date is in fact crap, if you think 50 degrees is cold I don't know what to say, I really don't. Southerners are pansies.

My cousin is from Michigan, but recently moved to Georgia, to work as a pilot for a small airline. Evidently, all it takes is for someone to spot a flurry to put every flight on a winter weather advisory, snarl every highway with numerous accidents, and cancel everything from school to bingo. It's a wonder the teams even showed up for their games!

I have numerous family members-in-law than can do nothing but bitch and moan over temperatures lower than 50. It becomes exponentially difficult to listen to that after about 1 minute because the complaining is simply a constant.

I also enjoy the people that are surprised when you can tell the difference between 30 degree weather and 5 degree or even negative degree weather.
