Most popular Top-25 CFB team by state in eBay sales

Submitted by Wolverine Devotee on

Maine and Wyoming.......

Minnesota is apparently overrun by Iowa fans.

Collectible coolers/teeth I'm guessing.

eBay says a Bama or Ohio State fan buys something on its site every 6 minutes

This is the greatest chart ever presented! Or at least the greatest ever presented on a Thursday in mid September in an even-numbered year that's not a leap year!!!

Check out the note at the bottom of the graphic. Says that the data was only based on the Top 25 ranked teams as of week 2. Might explain why Minnesota and Nebraska are overrun by Iowa fans. Ditto for Arkansas with LSU fans.

Exactly. I'm from Utah. There aren't that many die-hard Oregon fans in Utah, but plenty of Utah/BYU fans. Major flaw in the way they did this that makes it pretty inaccurate for a lot of states, I would think (probably explains, at least in part, why ND is so over-represented in the n)ortheast.

FWIW --- there were 7 teams in the Week 2 AP Top 25 that aren't represented on this list:

Houston, Michigan State, TCU, Texas A&M, Oklahoma State, Baylor, and Miami FLA.

All schools that had some other school from their state within the Top 25.

So I draw the very non-intuitive (sarcasm) conclusion that "if you are in the Top 25 and nobody else from your state is ranked, you will definitely be #1 in your state in terms of sales of your gear."

NYC has long been ND territory due to (1) no major college football programs in the area and (2) the huge number of Irish Catholics there. They Have long been known as the "Subway Alumni." As for NJ, don't you know that Rutgers has built a wall to rival Trump's? Nobody will ever get another recruit out of that state.

Yeah....I bought a Michigan Football hoodie, but didn't bother to wash it first since it was supposedly "brand new." Ended up giving me a fucking scabies infection.

Also, I'm like 95% sure it was shipped from NJ. So probably some Rutgers fan trying to use his dirtiness as a biological weapon in the imaginative war they've declared against Michigan.

Surprised the most about Stanford. Isn't UCLA usually one of the best selling merch schools? Stanford has a tiny fan base..have you seen their bowl games?

2nd mout surprising.. Notre  Dame in PA.

All of the little states are always pretty random in these things.

Standord was the only ranked team in California in Week 2. They almost win my default. Also, Pitt and Penn St. weren't ranked either leaving that state open for an outsider to be represented due to the dataset that was used.

The Barrow High School mascot is the Whaler. University of Alaska Fairbainks are the Nanooks. There aren't any Polar bears in Fairbanks since it's centrally located in the interior of the State and Polar bears are marine mammals. UAF mascot is a farce! That hype video tho!
