Most intriguing games of the day?

Submitted by FA_Wolverine on
Week 4, to me, is always a big week. This is where we start seeing the best teams emerge. My games of the day:

1. Michigan/BYU- Why? Because of the obvious.

2. Utah/Oregon- I have Utah winning in my pick'em. This will look good for us if they win.

3. Miss State/Auburn- I just want to see if Auburn gonna lose again.

What are your thoughts?

EDIT:  i think we're going to need more planes.  it's going to be hot in the stadium.

12,000 gallons per drop.  that'll take the heat off a bit.

TCU can VERY WELL lose this game. They're only starting 1 (!!!!!) guy from the defense that started in their bowl game against Ole Miss.

If BYU has the injury bug, then idk what the hell TCU has b/c their defense alone has 6 season ending injuries I believe.

Patterson is going to have to be a miracle worker this year.

Mora has had Rich's number.  This is his chance to show the Wilcats have truly arrived.

I like Arizona at home to upset the Bruins but it should be one hell of a game either way.

I'm curious about this. RR has always had a knack for being exposed by a team here or there back when he was in his prime form at WVU.

Mora could be his Pittsburgh kryptonite in the Pac12.

RR should win this game imo. Veteran QB vs freshman QB. UCLA is gonna need points. Scooby Wright is back for Zona too on defense.

Zona QB is a rs so - wouldnt call it veteran but yes more experience.

UCLA is still loaded- they are pretty good everywhere around rosen and rosen will have 5-6 games this year he looks like baby Luck.  Depends on if this is one of them.  If rosen is having a bad game they still have a stellar OL and Paul Perkins to run all day.  But they suffered a massive injury on defense.

I wouldnt say a win here means AZ has arrived.  That win on the road vs Oregon last year looked like a turning point an then they screwed up later in the yr.  AZ has given up some pts to bad teams this year as it looks like a typical rr defense.

Pac 12 south is going to be all sorts of wacky this year - lots of parity and good not great teams.  It's like having 5 wisconsins in the same division in terms of team ability.

This is the year to do it. ASU isn't as good as they were advertised. UCLA is banged up and has a freshman QB. USC is overrated as per usual under Sark.

The North division is very weak and will probably come down to the winner of Oregon or Stanford.

"Exposed?"  Puh-leeze.  Sometimes the other team just plays better that day.  Sometimes the matchups favor the other team.  RR's tenure here was an aberration for reasons that JUB already "exposed."  Other than that, RR's teams win more often than not.  If you make every loss a referendum, you have to make every win a referendum, too.

You're reading a bit too much into the word exposed... I'm not an RR hater. I actually love watching his teams play outside of the horrible Michigan memories.

2 of my top 5 Michigan football memories during college are from his teams.

This one should be good. I have no idea which way it'll go. UCLA is my second fav team, but I still pull for Rich Rod. Both teams are super fun to watch. Also, I haven't seen it posted here yet, but Miles Jack is out, so that is a hit to UCLA. Also, being in PAC10 country, I am pulling for ASU to kick USCs ass. That should also be a good one. Sark needs the win, or those wheels are gonna be falling off soon.

I bet a three team parlay this morning:

Wake Forest +3.5 against Indiana

Utah +10.5 against Oregon

Arizona +3.5 against UCLA

The way my luck runs on parlay's though the first two will come in and Zona will find a way to lose by four in the final seconds.  The god of illegal on-line betting loves to torment me so.

BTW - even though I think the line is insane I couldnt bring myself to bet on BYU +6.5.  There is no way I could ever place myself in a position whereby I'd somehow be happy if the other team did well against us.

With one exception.  Last year against OSU I must admidt I did root against us just to ensure Hoke got taken out.  But that was for a greater good so it doesnt count.

You rooted on OSU vs Mich???  I'm sorry but  Hoke was gone regardless and no CC justifies a loss to Ohio State ever.

Neg for this.  If I were a mod banhammer would be swift... 56K points and all.  This encapsulates a sickness in the fanbase.

OK rant over. Go Blue!

Scooby or not, zona manages to get scored on a lot by other teams. UTSA(?) tagged them for 30+ to start the season. While they are a better defense than RR had at Michigan, the wildcats will never threaten to be elite. They've only played in scoring contests, so far, and UCLA is going to be another dogfight. I expect them to score more than the 7 points the did last year, but the bruins just won their last dogfight against BYU. This will be an extremely tough game.

for me this is THE most important gamr of the year..This will set the tone for the rest of the season..Win and the bowl possibilities grow and a 8 win season is a good possibility lose and we are looking at 7-5 or 6-6...A win against a ranked team would be HUGE formthe turnaround and for Harbaugh..This game makes me very nervous..NOBODY has played a tougher schedule than BYU ..theyve already played 2 ranked opponents...they are a 1 point loss to UCLA from being 3-0 and their offense is big anf their passing game superior...

I agree this is a huge game regarding how we fare the rest of the season, but I just cannot see where anyone would get 6-6 from this schedule. Even IF we lose to the big 2 and northwestern I don't see anyone else beyond BYU on the schedule that will beat M.

There are scenarios for 6 wins but they entail rudock never progressing.

@Indiana for example is one everyone has as a win.   Indiana scores on everyone. But their HS defense gives up tons of pts too.  So say Indiana scores 28.  And rudock is UNLV rudock throws 2 picks and hhas a fumble and Indiana just commits 8 or 9 in the box all day to stop the run.

We really need Iowa 2014 rudock to show up.  Games vs Minn, NW, PSU are all dependent on defense keeping it close and rudock going 13/24 for 160 yds with 0-1 INT while we can get 150ish on the ground.  Those teams wont run away from us offensively but we need to do something competent on offense to avoid a bunch of 10-9 classics.  Also the FG kicking is still in question and I expect a lot of close games vs those teams.

I do think people are overreacting to the UNLV game a bit.  It was the worst Rudock has looked in his career, and that includes the Utah game.  Assuming he's closer to the OSU version, I don't see teams like IU, Minny, PSU, and NW being able to keep up offensively.  I'm more worried about the renaissance on the offensive line, as that may be more opponent-dependent than the passing game thus far.

I'm only concerned from our end. Like the Utah game, I feel like this is our game to lose. If we protect the ball we should win. Our defense is proving to be a force and they look better week to week.. This game sets up perfectly for our offense. Keep the ball out of the air and hope or linemen can open some holes for our backs. BYU could be 3-0..0-3..1-2..2-1.. Whatever. They haven't looked convincing in any of their wins or their loss. I just hope their luck ran out last week.

as Michigan/BYU should help give us a better idea where things are.

Also love see TCU game and how Oreon/Utah goes.

Two others not mentioned yet................Auburn/Miss State and Oklahoma State/Texas kind of interesting as well IMO.

Texas A&M/Arkansas.  After Big Bret ran his mouth a few weeks ago, it was nice to see Texas Tech beat em last week and Toledo w/the upset the week before.  Hopefully A & M can continue Bret's losing streak

Why the /s tag?

Definitely NOT the day's most intriguing match-up, but there is an interesting dynamic there.

Both are proud programs with rich histories. Both are trying to lay the cornerstones for their rebuilding projects. This game is big for both teams.

Now, if it turns into mistake-filled crap-fest, the both need to revisit their project plans.

What?  No Kansas rutgers intrigue??????

Lots of lopsided matchups outside of AA, and P12 this week.

Just from a wacky perspective LSU is traveling north to Syracuse of all places.

Bowling Green is scoring all sorts of points and goes into Purdue - could make that ugly for the Boilermakers.

Future opponent watch I'd like to see how MD matches up with West VA.

TN-FL used to be THE SEC matchup 15 yrs ago so should be an interesting one - difficult to peg TN right now.  That 1 is sort of offense(TN) v defense (FL).

Lost in OSU's offense has been OSU's D - I'm curious how Western's QB and Wr do against OSU in relation to MSU.

Can A&M continue Arkansas trail of tears?

Not as confident as most that Utah has any chance v Oregon.  If Adams is playing Utah could be exploited badly - we'll see.

I'd like to see ASU upset USC just for 'crooting purposes. Need some CA kids to look our way.
