Most Annoying Commercial of the College Football Season: Nelly or Pitbull?
Pitbull, and it's not even close, IMO. It makes me sad that I like Dr. Pepper, because I don't want them to see their bottom line and assume their advertising and marketing is good, but OTOH I'm not going to stop drinking it.
It's no contest for me. Pitbull has always just annoyed me and I've seen that commercial so many times now that I want him to overdose on Dr. Pepper. The Nelly commercial/song/promo by ESPN isn't that bad to me and the few times I have seen it only lasted what seemed like a few seconds in a transition to commercials. In conclusion, Pit Bull sucks.
You mean to say you're not having a good time, a real good time?
Whenever I go to the club I request a full can of Dr. Pepper. Just to make sure I'm having a real good time.
That Pitbull commercial belongs in a HOF of some sort. It guarantees a real good time.
I couldn't agree more. my house actually has the 30 seconds of that song on our party playlist. it's impossible not to have a real good time when that song plays
This just proves the Chinese have already won, has anyone watched the video where they construct a 30 story hotel in like 20 days? Yeah....
I'm pretty sure I don't know who Nelly is or what the commercial is, so I'd vote Pitbull by default.
Hey look! It's "guy who wants to indirectly show you that he listens to better music than you by pointing out the fact that he doesn't know who a mainstream musician is"!
Yeah, not knowing that commercial means you haven't watched a single ESPN bowl game.
Nelly gets to stompin' in his arr foce ones, then he keeps rollin' and gets two purrs because he needs two purrs.
Seriously, I had never heard of him before these commercials. And who named him after the dog? This guy?
Pitbull is the WORST.
Now it's time for a one of a kind. Let's have a real good time. Let's have a real good time. Let's have a real good time. Let's have a real good time. Let's have a real good time. Let's have a real good time. Let's have a real good time. Let's have a real good time. Let's have a real good time. Let's have a real good time. Let's have a real good time. Let's have a real good time. Let's have a real good time. Let's have a real good time. Let's have a real good time. Let's have a real good time. Let's have a real good time. Let's have a real good time. Let's have a real good time. Let's have a real good time. Let's have a real good time. Let's have a real good time. Let's have a real good time. Let's have a real good time. Let's have a real good time.
/transcription of Pitbull Ad. But seriously. I just transcribed it.
Nope. Where's the English/Spanish back and forth? You've lost all the subtleties of the song.
Also, not t be a stickler, but you forgot that "now it's time for a one of a kind party."
I hate myself for knowing that. On the other hand, I now know what that jiberish in the middle of the song was. And I still hate myself.
Oh well. At least there isn't a bud light commercial with Pitbull where it appears the commercial is "Bud Light makes girls look bette WHAAAAAAA?"
/couldn't find full version, but it's more of the same
That's EXACTLY what it does.
And this is the best of all the commercials, because it actually has hot women in it.
mami vamos a disfrutar la viiiiiiiida
How can this be a song? Seriously? Wow...Pittbull for real takes it. You suck!
Yeah but that's almost better then ryhming "this" with "this" in four consecutive lines, then "night" with "life" in the next two. Good work Nelly, way to make that money.
ALL OF THEM.
The mute button is my friend!
Pitbull of the two. Worst of all is the ATT 4G commercials, particularly the one of the two office girls. I ended up using the "C" word in front of my wife because of that one.
Why do all phone companies today think that the best advertising is showing how using their product turns you into a giant douchebag?
Inifiniti is doing this too... ads comparing the G series to the 3 series. Where both drivers are just douchebags, they throw snow at each other, cut each other off, and in one instance the inifiniti driver makes a giant snowball that destroys the BMW. I don't get it at all. Your neighbor drives a BMW? get your kid to pelt him with snowballs!
My dad has a saying: "Our customers are idiots! If you're an idiot, you can be one of our customers too!" It's truly astounding how many commercials fit that profile.
And yes, the HTC commercial with the two smug, extremely slappable bitch-women is the worst of the whole football season. At least the Dr Pepper commercial is mutable. I still have to look at the horrible smug faces of those awful people even with the sound off.
What about Dr. Pepper 10, not for women?
Not that bad, just way over played. Not IZOD/Weezer over played, but pretty bad.
Whoa. Weezer hate will not be tolerated.
"This is the dawning of a brave new...." *goes into convulsions*
"Not that bad"?
A marketing campaign that immediately alienates an entire gender and then proceeds to alienate anyone in the remaining gender who has a triple digit I.Q.?
"Are you a man that likes garbage "B" action movies?... Then you'll love this product! If not?... Fuck off!"
I say it's a toss up between the Nelly and Pitull songs. Both make me want to throw something at the tv. It's only going to get worse... I don't see the likes of Immortal Technique getting any air time in the future.
"When you call me, you call me the champ... Of the world" *sigh*
I really don't get that one. I wonder who's paying the idiots who come up with this stuff. I will deliberately avoid EVER drinking that stuff just because of this stupid ad campaign.
It's because the main consumers of diet soft drinks are women according to their market research team. They found that men shy away from diet drinks as they are not "macho enough". So, they decided to create an ad that is completely obvious (so obvious that it's a joke) in it's attempt to capture more of a male market.
By being so obviously sexist, it's generated a huge amount of attention, even among women. Supposedly 40% of their new consumer base is now women.
/end serious mode
Pitbull by far. Nelly deserves our thanks. That's the best football related rap song since LL's theme from the movie "Wildcats" entitled "Football".
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oUPo507wbvs The sound isn't the best, but in my opinion you have to have the movie opening credits with the home movies to get the full effect.
I am sure I am in the minority here but I have always liked Nelly. Pitbull on the other hand is not my style.
I, embarrassingly enough, admit liking the Nelly song. At least during the first week of bowls before I got sick of it
blackout entire town so one dude can drink and eat chicken. also, sprinkler guy ruining one team's season so a bunch of adults can continue drinking beer and eating chicken.
On that topic, I've never heard anyone say "the only thing that could make this game better is overtime". No, if M is down by eight with four seconds left, I'm hoping we score, get the two and ND fumbles the return and we win it on special teams. You'll never hear a fan say that the game would be better with overtime.
I was under the assumption he wasn't a fan of either team, he just didn't want the football to end. As in, if the game kept going, he had a good reason to go home to his wife a little later. So I get what he means.
Upon further review, I think you're wrong on both counts here. He's wearing the same jersey as one of the teams, and is sitting with a woman at the bar (although maybe that's some sort of scandal of its own...). Please now excuse me as I try to figure out what went so horribly wrong in my life that I'm sitting here dissecting BWW's terrible commercials, and exposing the rest of the board to this embed.
someone with the morals to cheat on his wife would not have a problem being in a sports bar after the sports have ended and therefore would not have any need to plead for the sprinkler guy to cause overtime.
my other beef with this game is that the endzone clearly reads "DETROIT" while the little graphic on the screen reads Detroit then St. Louis. everyone knows that in graphic form, the home team is always the second team shown. i am not sure how they did not catch this and change it.
I also dislike those commercials. If I was watching that game I would be pissed. It can't be the worst, though, because it is redeemed by the soothing sounds of a Gus Johnson play-by-play.
Right, but the sprinkler one has Gus Johnson in it.
Since when are we talking about John Lackey and the Boston Red Sox?
I enjoy it because it makes me think of Pete Carroll as a janitor
Could there be anything blander and more shamefully soulless than those Pitbull lyrics? If he spent more than 30 seconds coming up with that song, he spent too much time. He might as well have "Let's go and do some stuff, let's go and do some stuff."
You've never heard that Soulja Boy?
Seeing another allstate mayhem like me commercial. It was stupid from the start. 28 commercials later, it still is.
I actually like the Allstate mayhem commercials.
I thought I did too....then I saw them 500 times at the Sugar Bowl instead of game replays
I like the pitbull song, because it's a bond that links all College Football fans.
Muttering "let's have a real good time" under your breath will earn you an eyeroll, smirk, or a middle finger from any true fan who wastes much of Saturday/bowl season watching TV.
Do you guys know how to post videos to Facebook?
Do you guys know how to post videos to Facebook?
Yeah, that Pitbull thing is a special breed of awful. Nelly's is terrible, but Pitbull is elite terrible.
I'll say Pitbull. They're both guilty of one of the deadly sins of douchbaggery: Wearing sunglasses indoors/at night. As Larry David once said, "Only 2 kinds of people wear sunglasses indoors, blind people and assholes." So Pitbull gets the nod because he really committed to it and wore them the whole commercial.
i once saw michael moore at zingerman's. the only reason i noticed him was b.c he was wearing sunglasses and i was like, 'what kind of jerk wears sunglasses indoors? oh, it's michael moore.'
But these AT&T commercials always really annoyed me too.
I don't know why but the redhead's facial expressions behind her phone while the "face cake" video is playing drives me absolutely crazy.
I agree. I started noticing them after the first few times I saw the commercial. Now it is all I can notice and they annoy me quite a bit. However, I think the other girl is pretty cute so it evens me out.
I want someone to take those smarmy bitches' phones, break them in half, and say " 4G that, cunt."
I mean he's not even rapping. He's singing. Auto tune singing some crappy song. He's not doing what he's best at, whatever that is.
At least with Pitball, I could guess why people would enjoy the song.
Those AT& T commercials are horrid . Look you can be a inconsiderate, hobbit jerk devoid of people skills. Yeah I want to spend time at a tailgate looking at my phone, sounds aweseome!!
I like the Mayhem commericals. Some hit, some miss. But they always include Dennis Duffy, the Beeper King.
the allstate mayhem commercials are played out.
I will vote for nelly being the most annoying on this one. I also would like to believe that both of these musicians should lose all "street cred" with their performances.
more street than earnin' those dolla's.
For Senative Commercial
Pitbull. I don't want to have a real good time, okay
Truly the worst commercial of this past football season is the Pepsi Max commercial with Rex Ryan and the Jets. Yuck city
of those two, Pitbull. Straight garbage water in my mouth
Yeah, I saw that one a few times over the weekend and it was just embarrassing. It's bad enough for a team that arrogant to miss the playoffs, but then to show up over and over during the games with that crappy commercial is downright embarrassing.
Seriously, my idea of a real good time is NOT dancing under a highway drinking Dr. Pepper.
But the commercial I could never see again and be happy is-
I don't even hate Herby or anything. Just sick of it.
Perhaps, Dove could show some highlights of Kirk getting smashed against UM and ask him how comfortable he was in his own skin as was picking sod out of his teeth.
Is WolverineHistorian's command...
The guy's name was Pitbull. I always referred to him as the Dr. Pepper ad douche. Hands down his is the worst ad of the year.
It's like "One Shining Moment" with street cred.
Plus, I do enjoy periodically having a real good time.
I duno the Herbstreit commercial is kinda creepy, all those kids look like little clones
Mixed with Village of the Damned vibe to it....
Though if they wanted to recruit all his little clones, I'd be down with that since he was 0-3-1 vs. Michigan during his career.
Bonus: I have no idea why a search for BOYS from Brazil gets this...but I'm glad it did...
(Can't be any worse than what they show in the videos and commercials...)
(Edit: for those that the image is "too small"-
While the Nelly thing is definitely not the best music out there, that whole segment kind of got... nostalgic for me as the bowl season went on. They played highlights of all the wild and crazy moments from the first bowls all the way to the recent ones and so I can't really hate it anymore. It reminds me of the fun times I had watching bowl games instead of being with family or hanging out with friends.
Pitbull on the other hand. That was straight up trash.
Am I the only one who can't stand those 'here we go' commercials? That's a stupid thing to say if you're riding a roller coaster populated by zombies on the moon, much less about to drink pies flavored tonic water in your living room. Also, fuck pitbull.
glad i wasn't the only one deeply disturbed by the pitbull ad. it is easily the most annoying ad i have ever heard/seen. it's so bad that when it comes on i pause the dvr, i wait for my wife to come by, i say "hey babe check this out" then I crank up the volume and start it up again. every single time. some bizaare sado/masochistic ritual i'm driven to by pitbull, his hideous, gingivitis ridden silver teeth, the cheesy sluts under the overpass faking excitement over dr. pepper, and such winning lines like "now it's time for a one of a kind taste," and my personal favorite "heeeeeey mommy vamos a disfrutar la viiiida!" which means "hey babe we're going to enjoy life" with his awful dance moves...
fuck, shoot me dead now please. just glad i am not alone.
So I work in the "industry" and I can tell you... while Pitbull is garbage... at least it's his garbage meaning written by him etc.
The Nelly song is obviously just something he purchased from a writer in a desperate attempt to be relevant again.
Now you have to decide who you dislike more Pitbull who just sucks on his own or Nelly who at least pays money to try not to suck but still ends up sucking...
Me personally I appreciate the Nelly song more but the original songwriter's version probably sounded better.
So many beats from European electronic music. It's frustrating seeing good music ruined by him.
Of those two, yeah Pitbull is the worst.
But the commercial (or series of commercials) that I got really sick of hearing over and over and over and over again.....
(you may all hate me now for making you think of that damned tune again)
I'd rather hear nelly and pitbull back to back than that jingle and a $60,000 dollar truck with a bow
until your comment I had forgotten that stupid melody. Need some miscellaneous space junk to fall on one of those Lexii (I do love the Farmers' commercials).
...in a blowout.
I look at it like this - Nelly's tune was at least mellow enough that I could tune it out while I was on this site watching and commenting, and at least it was the transitional music in and out of commercial and it didn't last long enough to get all that annoying, but it was around just long enough to seem overplayed. The Dr. Pepper commercial was just straight up fingers-on-chalkboard grating to me.
I'm not a huge NFL fan, but that dance BJ Raji did in last year's playoffs was the most epically hilarious thing I've ever seen on a football field. State Farm is going to get a ton of mileage out of that commercial, even if it's a year late. And yeah, the expression on his face in that commercial was like, "you need to take this shit seriously, son." Classic.
Pitbull. Hands down. Oh God, that tune is now ringing in my head. Make it stop. MAKE IT STOP.
on the ESPN radio affiliate for a place that will buy your firearms, whether its "one or hundreds."
After that, Nelly with his fill in the blank crap.
Nelly's is worse, because it's not even a real commercial and thus has no reason to exist. And while each viewing seems to make the Pitbull video seem more tragic and less hilarious, the melody itself isn't that bad and there's something merciful in keeping the lyrical creativity to a minimum. "The Champ" would benefit from similar restraint.
I had never even heard of Pitbull until I saw this commercial. In fact, when I first saw the commercial I thought he was a fake entertainer just for the commercial. Come to find out unfortunately he's a real dude.
I wish I still didn't know about him.
Nothing beats Rotel and Velveeta
