Most Annoying Commercial of the College Football Season: Nelly or Pitbull?

Submitted by hart20 on

Throughout the college football season, we've sat through far too many commercials during frustratingly long TV timeouts. Some have been funny, some meaningless, some mildly annoying, and some have been so mind-boggling, terrifyingly annoying that it should be considered a crime to play those commercials on televison. When I think of that last category, two commercials come to mind: the Nelly promo song for ESPN or the Pitbull Dr. Pepper commercial.

If you have repressed your memories of those commercials, you are not only exceedingly lucky but I'm also about to ruin your day. Tough luck. At this time, I'd like to say that if you choose to watch the videos below, your ears will be raped. Also a disclaimer, if you choose to proceed, neither MGoBlog, Brian, the mods, nor I are responsible for the medical fees when your ears start bleeding. You have been warned.

Nelly

Nelly, you haven't put a song out worth listening to for a long, long time now. Do you seriously need the cash so badly that you have to create terrible music for ESPN? Just go pull a Lindsay Lohan and find the lady version of Hugh Hefner. As an aside, Lindsay, why couldn't you pose for Playboy when you were hot and not rotting from all your meth and cocaine use?

Pitbull

Seriously, Pitbull, who parties under a damn overpass? And partying and dancing with Dr. Pepper in hand? WTF? Is this 8th grade again?  Who gets dressed up to go to a club, goes to an underpass instead, and drinks Dr. Pepper instead of alcohol? What kind of party is that? You know what would happen if someone tried that? The cops would come and arrest everyone for public intoxication, only to realize that no one was drunk except for that weird homeless guy, and then arrest everyone for subjecting their ears to Pitbull. How does he not understand that releasing the same song with the same beat over and over and over again is not making music? The only good thing about that video is the hot women.

Come on! (I had to find some way to link to an Arrested Development video.)

Anyways, fellow MGoBloggers, what do you think was the worst commercial of this otherwise great college football season? It can be one of the above or it can be one not mentioned. Let everyone know down below.

I like the pitbull song, because it's a bond that links all College Football fans.

Muttering "let's have a real good time" under your breath will earn you an eyeroll, smirk, or a middle finger from any true fan who wastes much of Saturday/bowl season watching TV.

I'll say Pitbull. They're both guilty of one of the deadly sins of douchbaggery: Wearing sunglasses indoors/at night. As Larry David once said, "Only 2 kinds of people wear sunglasses indoors, blind people and assholes." So Pitbull gets the nod because he really committed to it and wore them the whole commercial.

I mean he's not even rapping.  He's singing.  Auto tune singing some crappy song.   He's not doing what he's best at, whatever that is.

At least with Pitball, I could guess why people would enjoy the song.

Those AT& T commercials are horrid .  Look you can be a inconsiderate, hobbit jerk devoid of people skills.  Yeah I want to spend time at a tailgate looking at my phone, sounds aweseome!!

I like the Mayhem commericals.  Some hit, some miss.   But they always include Dennis Duffy, the Beeper King.

I will vote for nelly being the most annoying on this one. I also would like to believe that both of these musicians should lose all "street cred" with their performances.

Truly the worst commercial of this past football season is the Pepsi Max commercial with Rex Ryan and the Jets. Yuck city

of those two, Pitbull. Straight garbage water in my mouth

But the commercial I could never see again and be happy is-

And

I don't even hate Herby or anything. Just sick of it.

Mixed with Village of the Damned vibe to it....

Though if they wanted to recruit all his little clones, I'd be down with that since he was 0-3-1 vs. Michigan during his career.

Bonus: I have no idea why a search for BOYS from Brazil gets this...but I'm glad it did...

(Can't be any worse than what they show in the videos and commercials...)

While the Nelly thing is definitely not the best music out there, that whole segment kind of got... nostalgic for me as the bowl season went on. They played highlights of all the wild and crazy moments from the first bowls all the way to the recent ones and so I can't really hate it anymore. It reminds me of the fun times I had watching bowl games instead of being with family or hanging out with friends.

Pitbull on the other hand. That was straight up trash.

Am I the only one who can't stand those 'here we go' commercials? That's a stupid thing to say if you're riding a roller coaster populated by zombies on the moon, much less about to drink pies flavored tonic water in your living room. Also, fuck pitbull.

glad i wasn't the only one deeply disturbed by the pitbull ad.  it is easily the most annoying ad i have ever heard/seen.  it's so bad that when it comes on i pause the dvr, i wait for my wife to come by, i say "hey babe check this out" then I crank up the volume and start it up again.  every single time.  some bizaare sado/masochistic ritual i'm driven to by pitbull, his hideous, gingivitis ridden silver teeth, the cheesy sluts under the overpass faking excitement over dr. pepper, and such winning lines like "now it's time for a one of a kind taste," and my personal favorite "heeeeeey mommy vamos a disfrutar la viiiida!" which means "hey babe we're going to enjoy life" with his awful dance moves...

fuck, shoot me dead now please.  just glad i am not alone.

So I work in the "industry" and I can tell you... while Pitbull is garbage... at least it's his garbage meaning written by him etc.

The Nelly song is obviously just something he purchased from a writer in a desperate attempt to be relevant again.

Now you have to decide who you dislike more Pitbull who just sucks on his own or Nelly who at least pays money to try not to suck but still ends up sucking...

Me personally I appreciate the Nelly song more but the original songwriter's version probably sounded better.

...in a blowout.

I look at it like this - Nelly's tune was at least mellow enough that I could tune it out while I was on this site watching and commenting, and at least it was the transitional music in and out of commercial and it didn't last long enough to get all that annoying, but it was around just long enough to seem overplayed. The Dr. Pepper commercial was just straight up fingers-on-chalkboard grating to me.

Both commericals are totally brutal but my vote goes to Pitbull as most annoying. "let's have a real good time...." fuck your mother, Pitbull! Enough already.

As an aside, I just saw the new Aaron Rodgers "discount double check" commercial with BJ Raji. Fucking hysterical. Raji's dance and the look on his face is priceless.

I'm not a huge NFL fan, but that dance BJ Raji did in last year's playoffs was the most epically hilarious thing I've ever seen on a football field. State Farm is going to get a ton of mileage out of that commercial, even if it's a year late. And yeah, the expression on his face in that commercial was like, "you need to take this shit seriously, son." Classic.

Nelly's is worse, because it's not even a real commercial and thus has no reason to exist. And while each viewing seems to make the Pitbull video seem more tragic and less hilarious, the melody itself isn't that bad and there's something merciful in keeping the lyrical creativity to a minimum. "The Champ" would benefit from similar restraint.

I had never even heard of Pitbull until I saw this commercial. In fact, when I first saw the commercial I thought he was a fake entertainer just for the commercial. Come to find out unfortunately he's a real dude.

I wish I still didn't know about him.
