Morris=Gardner

So don't complain about who's starting. Terrible game by both with very few bright spots and a ton of turnovers.
It's going to be a long year.....

You make good points.  But don't you think that some of it is that the defenses figured out his fatal flaw (really, Narduzzi figured out his fatal flaw and everyone else has followed him) and there just has been no remedy on Devin's part?  I don't know how to evaluate whether or not "something broke."  It seems that may be the case, but I think it may also be that he simply cannot make quick decisions under duress and the exploitation of this weakness has made him unplayable.

It's not that Devin is not a smart guy -- clearly he is pretty smart.  But quick thinking is another thing.  I really hate it for the guy.  He must know that it is over for him now and it kills me that this becomes his legacy.  But if Hoke continues to start him we should sue the program for malfeasance.  Hoke must know that his job is very much in jeopardy and the only hope is benching Devin.  What a sad way to end up for such a great guy like DG.

I posted below, but your post more succinctly and accurately summarizes what my thoughts are.  If we stick with DG for the balance of the year, I also think we'll need a shift like you suggested:  ""screw it Brady....we need to just go back to the full spread like I did at U of W".

Morris has to be the starter from here on out.  And he can be much better than Gardner.  He throws with authority.  It would be nice if receivers would catch something for him though.  Morris is a sophomore who is going to have growing pains.  Gardner is what he is always going to be.  We have scored 0 touchdowns against major conference opponents with DG as quarterback, and you guys are seriously complaining about putting Morris in?  There is hope with Morris, and none with Devin.

Reminds me of an old ball player, you live on his glory, you keep waiting for him to recapture it, but it's not going to happen. To me Gardner looks destroyed, mentally confused, hesitant, just awful. He hasn't thrown more than 5 good balls all season. Shane hasn't looked the part either and really I don't trust the coaches on any of their evaluations, I just think you give Shane the start next week, he may not be better, but Gardner looks washed up, I mean his throwing motion is embarrassing, the coaches already have no faith in him by the play calls, either let devin be devin, or let's see what Shane can do before next season.

Yeah they both look awful. Nice kids, not great quarterbacks and I'm really not trying to be a jerk. It's sad, makes you wonder, what the hell do these guys do all week? For the time spent practicing this team looks awful, pretty much in every way. Even jake Ryan was missing tackles today.

MSU's offense looked similarly horrible last year until they found their QB, then they took off. Their offensive staff didn't magically get better, it just turned out they had the wrong QB under center. Shane may not be ready to take the offense any further, but for where this team is, we need to see what he has....but here's the conundrum: We have coach who is under "win now" pressure, but his team's most talented players (on both sides of the ball) simply aren't ready to help the team do so. So unless Gardner magically improves, we're fucked either way.

You know what though? Hoke gets paid the big bucks to make the tough decisions. The easy choice is to let the 5th year senior continue to start and sure he'll have some good games the rest of this year, but where does that leave this team next year? To me, if you start Shane the rest of this year, you go through going pains with a much higher ceiling for potential. You can then say ok, we started the young guy, give us one legitimate year now that he has some experience (as unpopular as waiting is, I know). However, if he starts Gardner, it's an even bigger gamble with his own job. If they shit the bed like this the rest of the year, Hoke needs to go because there is no excuse that with a 5th year senior, you can't win more games.

We have yet to see DG improve at all. Seriously. Two coordinators can't fix him. QB coach to the stars out west can't fix him. Call a spade a spade. Give someone else a shot. Give them the time to improve. Shane hasn't had a fair shake. Don't throw him under the bus just yet. Devin on the other hand? Plenty of chances.

With what Morris has shown thus far, I'm less than impressed. However, if they're going to make a change, they need to do it now. No more fucking around. Make a decision and stick with it. If he sucks, he sucks, but let him finish out the season. Then at least you can say you're building for a future (via giving the young QB experience). If he does suck, have an all-out QB battle starting right away in the spring (an actual battle, not that bullshit they had in the spring and fall). No going back to the other guy unless there's an injury. I don't know if I can really trust this coaching staff to make such a big-balls decision when they've been running around waiting for their nuts to drop for the last 2-3 years.

Morris hasn't been given a fair shake. DG has been given a fair shake. He is just not good. Morris may not be, but he might improve. He may not, but he has take the reps and play a few games. I will say this. If he is not good by MSU, then the problem is with the coach. Morris needs a chance for a few games. Minny game is perfect to try. They are not good.

At the end of the game we needed a miracle and Morris was going big.  I feel like we have not seen that at all this season from Gardner, and as a result our opponents seem to be pulling in their coverage minimizing our passing options.  I do not know if sticking with the short passing game is a matter of strategy or Gradner's skills.  I do feel like giving Morris a chance would be a good idea, but I'm not expecting a miracle.

He has one start as a QB. yes, he's thrown plenty of INTs, but he's also been put in weird situations and he's still learning. He's a sophomore, after all. The guy threw a couple real neice passes against Miami (that weren't caught), and tonight he showed decisiveness and great arm strength, he just had a couple balls sail on him a little bit. He was probably nervous and trying too hard.

But to evaluate him based on what we've seen so far is not fair at all.

Loving the hypocrisy of people on the board demanding Morris to be put in even though he was a trainwreck with turnovers, yet they crucified Bellomy two years ago for the same stuff. Put in Bellomy!

People were demanding the coaches give Morris a chance because Gardner looked terrible. For me, I wasn't sure if Morris would be insanely better, but you know what, I'm happy they gave him a chance. Until he goes out there you don't know what you've got.

I gotta say, I'd write this season off. Start Morris, slog through the growing pains and get him ready for next season so at least there's one somewhat experienced option.

We've lost 8 out of the last 12. Over Hoke's tenure we've had fantastic recruiting classes. That said he has not been able to recruit a top QB prospect. For all his recruiting success, his inability to attract a top national propsect for what it undoubtedly the most important position on the field -  will ultimately cost Hoke  his job. I don't think we have a QB on the roster to help us right the ship. We need a stud. Sadly, the next great QB at Michigan is probably in 10 years old and living in California. How much more losing do you need to convince yourseld that Brady Hoke has got to go?

Personally, I'd give Morris a try.  Gardner seems broken while Morris has limited experience.  It could be Morris grows with experience.  It doesn't seem like Gardner will un-break.  Everyone is entitled to their opinions on who should play QB, but to the guy in section 16 seating somewhere in the high 30s row who was rooting for Gardner to get hurt so he could see Morris -- Fuck you.

Gardner can't be put out there anymore, he is a wreck. Those who are staying, "Morris won't be any better," need to rethink. Gardner is done, unless we go to a spread offense, you CANNOT put him back out there, his mechanics are embarrassing, I'm sorry Devin is a great guy, but I don't think he has thrown 5 good passes all year, even his completions are behind or way in front of the receivers. I think Shane could get better with each snap.

I don't know if the sands of time have caused my memory to cloud or not, but... when I think back to 2013 - or even 2012 - DG, I remember a fast athlete.  Maybe not Denard fast, but fast enough that you knew he could run well.  Fast enough to be viable to run a spread style offense.

This year, I feel like he not only looks slower on footspeed, but almost all aspects of his game seem slower... or maybe indecisive is a better word.

I can't help but wonder if this is at least partly the result of the staff trying to turn him into a classic drop back QB, which has left him no longer just reacting... but now always thinking about what he should be doing.  Afraid to make a mistake, which then becomes exactly what happens.  The extreme analogy is that we're trying to turn him into a John Navarre style QB.

I think it makes sense that when you take a good athlete and make him think all the time instead of react, it will slow them down.  There are times when I see him drop back, look around and I think "Just run!", but he doesn't - then the pocket collapses and he gets sacked.  It's hard for me to fathom that this is the same athletic QB we all saw at the '13 ND game, or the '13 OSU game for that matter.  He doesn't even look like the same guy... and I wonder if all the talk about his propensity to make bad decisions has become a self fulfilling prophecy.

I also wonder whether or not that there could be any issues after the broken foot injury from last year - whether it healed at 100%, because his footspeed doesn't seem what it used to be.  I think he would struggle to be a true spread / option QB right now.

Just curious if anyone else has had similar thoughts.
