Morgan Trent? From the Detroit News

Submitted by RedGreene on
• Morgan Trent, former U-M cornerback, played one year under Rodriguez: "I'm not surprised because I know what happened, and I know what kind of rules were broken. I couldn't see how they were going to get out of that. "Whatever steps need to be taken (to restore Michigan's winning tradition), I'm all for it. What is happening right now obviously is not working. I don't know how long they're going to let this last until changes are made. This year is going to be the tell-all what's going to happen. We can't have three losing years in a row. Not at Michigan. To lose seven of last eight games (in 2009) is an embarrassment." http://www.detnews.com/article/20100223/SPORTS0201/2230443/1361/Lloyd-C…

..but I watched that press conference today and David Brandon basically admitted that the accusations were true and took responsibility. So, as per the part of Morgan's quote about the "rules were broken", he seems to have been saying nothing different than what our own new A.D. said. The rest of the quote you can say what you will about it. Look, to the best of my knowledge, few to none of the posters on this board actually played football for Michigan and are ergo not as invested in the program quite as much as someone who actually shed blood, sweat and tears on the turf/grass of Michigan Stadium. It absolutely can't be easy for former players to watch all that had transpired in the last two years. Think how bad we all feel and quadruple. I'll chalk these comments up to wounded pride.

It took Braylon all of what, about 36 hours, to walk that one back? Some of these guys sure do say some stupid shit. Morgan, we're going to put you on the Braylon "No More Stupid Shit" Diet.

It was? I thought making fun of a former UofM player for speaking the truth was unnecessary. Now that he spoke out in an unfavorable way, people are trying to discredit him by saying, "He sucked, anyway!" Which isn't true and is completely irrelevant. I don't care if Brandon Logan comes out and says negative things - if what he says is true, who cares if he never saw the field or if he was All Big Ten or if he was the #1 pick in the draft?

fwiw I don't take what Morgan says seriously at all. He strongly disliked RR. When people speak of the older players that 'quit' on RR in 2008, they were led by Trent. I know that sounds like i'm ragging on him and I JUST LOVE RR but that is coming from my roommate who played with him. Don't worry about this guys. It's not a big deal.

When you insult the performance of your coach with regard to winning games when you had a very mediocre career, then you deserve to take heat. I do not take any issue with his comments regarding the rules, since he's kind of right. FWIW, I didn't neg you.

I'm sorry, did that mediocre career coincide with the mediocre decision to hire a mediocre defensive coordinator who had the mediocre idea of playing John Thompson at OLB and the mediocre idea of playing his cornerbacks 10 yards off the line of scrimmage and a head coach who made the very horrible decision to switch to a 3-3-5 stack for ONE game in the middle of the season? And didn't that meciocre player get drafted to the Bengals, lock down the nickel corner position as a rookie, and tally 28 tackles, 4 PBUs, and 1 sack? Hmmmm...you know what, I know it's hard to admit, but maybe Morgan Trent was a good player who suffered through some shitty defensive coaching.

Your know it all attitude really pisses me off. You're not the only high school football coach on here (I'm one) and you don't know everything football. Your constant arguments about who plays what safety position because you read scout makes me very irritated. Quit arguing EVERYTHING. You're a grumpy ass old man. BTW Trent was pretty horrible. Neg away, go RR.

Congratulations on being a high school football coach. I don't know everything about football. That's true. What does any of this have to do with Morgan Trent's comments? Also, Morgan Trent is in the NFL. If that counts as being "pretty horrible" at football, then I wish I was "pretty horrible.

About 95% of what Magnus says, including everything he has said about Morgan Trent, is correct. Just because Trent is upset with the coaching he got at Michigan doesn't mean he was a bad player. Sure, he had a bad game against USC, but who on that team didn't?
