Just when things sounded as he was on schedule to come back next year ready to contribute this happens. Just not a smart move on his part and then to lie about it. Is it time for Stonum and Michigan to part ways?
so much for that
After 2 DUIs and isn't this 3 driving without a license? It better be.
If anyone sees Stonum getting in a vehicle..grab him..call it a citizens proactiove arrest
this is not good at all and frankly I would not blame Hoke for moving on. Unless there is some reasonable explanation this shows horrible judgment and may result in further legal problems. Maybe we should have made a schollie available for Arnett?
Someone get this man an Ann Arbor The Ride bus map. Now.
Wonder if Beamer can hook him up with a Greyhound schedule?
Afraid this is the end of the road for Darryl, as far as Michigan football is concerned. A pity.

Sammy Watkins did a pretty good job for Clemson this year.
We have no one as good as Sammy Watkins. Arnett could have been the guy, but alas, Stonum decided to fuck up just after he committed elsewhere. Son of a bitch.
Everyone makes mistakes when they are young. The thing is that they need to learn from them and it would seem that he is not as he continues to make similar mistakes. To bad after he had a very promising 2010.

Calling him an "announcer" is misleading.
He is merely a fan with a microphone.

Dumb move, but the kid was trying to get to the probation office to check in at 7am. Kinda hard to find a ride.
I was afraid he did something dumb while down in N.O., this is still dumb...but I think if he's been perfect, the court may not worry about it.
We'll know tomorrow when he goes for his scheduled hearing.

Have to believe this is an appointment he didn't know about long in advance. No excuse to not have a way to get there. Perfect or not this is something that could have and should have been avoided.

He drove b/c he had to get to his probation meeting. Dumb but understandable. I don't think this is a hanging offense. He didn't endanger anyone by doing this.
It's tough to make predictions, especially about the future. -- Yogi Berra
If the courts say nothing to see here (probation officers know what he has been up to the past 8 months), I have no issue with him staying on the team. But if they smack him hard (again based on the previous 8 months), he is gone.
My feelings exactly. If this was a bad decision with good intentions (i.e. getting to his PO to check in), I don't think it needs to be the end of his career. If the judicial system decides this was serious, then I don't think there's any choice but to move on.
Your friendly neighborhood contrarian.
Even if he lives down on Main Street with the other guys on the team, the probation office is easy to get to from there by bus or even by bike.
And most of that trip is down hill.
When I lived in Ann Arbor...
...it was uphill.
...bothways.

No, there's no excuse for this. How does it make any sense at all to get into a car with a revoked license, then drive yourself to the courthouse, of all places, for your probation checkup?
as much as I appreciate Hoke giving the kid a second chance...he just doesn't seem to want to walk the straight and narrow. I think its time to move on from Darryl and that's too bad. He had the world at his finger tips and he just let it slip away by being irresponsible.

I do not see how they can allow him back on the team. I think it is time to part ways. We could really have used Stonum for next year, but how dumb can you be. He is driving to his probation officer meeting on a suspended license and then lies to his probation officer saying he was dropped off. If I was him, I would not do anything remotely illegal so that I could get back on the team. He has no one to blame for this but himself.
The mgo community RAILED MSU for Tucker getting one duo and Winston getting in one fight.
This is.... what? The third occurance? He was still on the team after two, eight? Is there any doubt he should be gone?
Unfortunately this is likely his last draw. Too bad, I thought he would step in well and decrease the loss of Hemingway.
Someone please donte one to him...half the ones parked at South Quad never even get used (at least circa 1997)
If I'm Hoke I'm calling him now.
Thats how I roll!
I'm sorry but I don't see what the big deal is. What a joke.

Well since you're Mr. Rager, you probably don't have a problem with Stonum's raging.
But, when you have 2 DUIs and have already been pulled over multiple times for driving without a license, you don't want to accrue more tickets/arrests. You will eventually go to jail. Prior to that, a college football coach will likely kick you off the team for being a dumbass.
If Stonum is kicked off the team, we lose our outside speed receiver. That is the big deal and is not a joke.
Intensity is a lot of guys that run fast.
Yeah yeah yeah. It was 7 AM and he clearly couldn't find anyone to give him a ride. How bad would it have been if he missed his date?
Also, nice job AA PD for essentially arresting him after you pieced together the fact that he drove himself there.
The whole thing sucks, and it's not like he was driving drunk this time (which is a REAL law that he broke, twice). I am not saying he's a good / bad kid, but this offense (by comparison to what he has done before) is a joke. Not worthy of being booted off the team.

This offense may not be alone but when you compound all of his other mistakes he has made this should be the last one he has a chance to make while with Michigan. Driving with a suspened licence is a REAL law that he broke as well.
He should have had a ride lined up and things ready to go. As far as how bad would it have been, I can't say I have ever been in this position my self but I imagine that a phone call to who ever he needed to see and explain the situation would have been better then this.

Drunk driving = Breaking a REAL law that has REAL consequences (putting yourself and anyone else on the road in danger of losing their life)
Driving with a suspended license = Breaking a follow up law due to a REAL law that you previously broke
If he gets kicked off the team, I wouldn't be surprised. But I seriously cannot believe the people that are willing to toss him away like a piece of garbage right now.

Just said it your self, he still broke the law and as far as what Michigan stands for and the accountability that Hoke wants from his team this is something that cannot just be swept away.
No one said he is garbage or a terrible kid but this isn't what we want Michigan to be in the news for now or in the future. Kids breaking "minor" laws as you would call them, it's not what the program stands for period.
-Those who stay will be champions-
By this logic, breaking out of prison isn't breaking a REAL law.
Stonum broke the law by driving drunk. Part of his punishment is that he is no longer allowed the privilege of driving. He circumvented his own punishment for the first crime, breaking ANOTHER law in the process.
I consider that a big deal in its own right. It is all the more so when combined with the previous violations.
7am is not particularly early. Buses, bikes, and feet are all perfectly capable of transporting an individual from one location to another. On a personal level, Stonum's bad decision is understandable. But, on an accountablility level, it is still a bad decision, it should not be excusable.
Your brain doesn't work like mine, I am sorry. You really went to the "breaking out of jail" comparison? LOL.
Driving with a suspended license is more akin to jay walking, speeding, etc. than breaking out of jail. I didn't even read the rest of your post because what you led with was so terrible.
"to make a complete evaluation off video w/o seeing guys in-person - I don't believe that at all." - Josh Helmholdt
You're right, your brain doesn't work like his, or like most others apparently. It's a perfectly sound, albeit extreme, analogy. You said driving with a suspended was breaking a "follow up law" after breaking a "REAL" law, whatever that means. Breaking out of jail would also be a "follow up law", because guess what, if I go visit a prison today I'm perfectly free to walk out the front door without breaking any "REAL" or "follow up" laws. Staying in jail is a condition of punishment, as is the revocation of driving privileges. Don't adhere to either of these conditions, and there are consequences.
I dont think you really understand the law. 1 speeding ticket isn't the worst thing in the world. 15 speeding tickets in a row and you are probably going to jail. 1 driving with a suspended license may not be a huge deal, but after DUI's and other driving while license suspended tickets, he might spend some time in jail. But that isn't so bad, is it
By itself, I'd agree, too. However, he was on probation. He had a probation officer, it wasn't fun and games. Now, until all the facts are out, I am not going to make further judgement, but based on what we see right this second, I don't think it looks good.
