More nonsense going on with Chris Webber/Jalen Rose

Submitted by Wolverine Devotee on

I just saw this today.........yeesh.

Chris Webber was on Doug Gottleib's show. He asked Chris about his freindship with Jalen, and things went as you would expect-

Webber and Rose, once extremely close, have been on the outs in recent years.

“What did you just ask me?” Webber said.

Gottlieb reiterated his original question: Where is your relationship with Jalen?

“Wherever it was,” Webber said.

Gottlieb asked Webber to clarify.

“I mean, Doug, we ain’t talking about that,” Webber said. “You ain’t getting that interview. I’m talking about Wake Forest. I don’t talk about him. I talked about him one time on The Dan Patrick show. That was it.”

Full transcript that gets more awkward here-

If you want to listen to it, it's at the 14 minute mark.

Michigan had 5 guys start in a national title game three seasons ago. None of them act like this. Remember them instead.

The end of his ESPN tenure.  He made it known publicly that he was given a quota for how many times he had to bring up Tebow's name.  So in the middle of conversation about college basketball he would just say, "oh yeah, and by the way Tebow...now back to Michigan vs Michigan state."  It was hilarious.

I'm nearing my whits end with him but at least he didn't screw our program like Webber did.

At least he showed up to games at Crisler before we became a top-15 program again and not just the national championship game like Webber did.

At least he is in good graces with the University and program.

At least his name isn't followed by asterisks in the record books.

He could've bought a ticket and sat courtside. No shame in that. Let's talk about before he was disassociated prior to 2003. Where was he then when the shit hit the fan? He hasn't been in Crisler since the "Fab Four" year in 1993-94. To me, he turned his back on the program and school that made him once he got what he wanted out of the deal. Hell, he didn't even show up to games BEFORE the shit hit the fan and the team had a good year in 1997-98.

The school that made him? We plucked him out of obscurity and developed a can't play guy into a player like with Thad Garner? He would've been unknown, done nothing and went nowhere if he had picked Duke or MSU instead?

If Webber wasn't on Michigan would we have been in either of his title games? Conversely, if he was on Duke would that have stopped them from getting to the final or would he have cost them the championship against whomever they would've played, assuming no Michigan without Webber, or if Webberless Michigan somehow made it to that game anyway, we would've beat Duke with them having Webber while we didn't?

Webber and the Fab Five made Michigan basketball infinitely more famous than they ever were, much more so than the NC team ever was.

They were household words among non basketball fans and made Michigan fans out of people that had never thought or cared about Michigan before.

They made more money for Michigan than any team had ever done before with merchandising.

Webber had to say yes to Howard in order to make the fab five happen, he also had to get Jalen on board in order for it to happen.

That's how much Webber "made" Michigan basketball during that time. Do you really think being at Michigan compared to Duke or MSU raised the level of who Chris Webber was or became more than him being at Michigan raised the level, exposure and income of Michigan basketball?

I'm not talking about the scandal, his role in it or if it would've been better not to ever have him or not, I'm just talking about the idea that Michigan "made" him.

Without Michigan, there is no Fab Five as we had 4 of the other guys already locked down. I'd rather us not have him period than have a chunk of our wins missing from the 90s.

Understandable...but some of that is due to your age. And my perspective is, of course, colored by my own age and experiences: the Fab Five, and Webber in particular, were the coolest damn thing in the world to my 12 and 13-year old self. Therefore, I wholeheartedly disagree with your statement that you'd rather we just didn't have Webber and then not have to give back wins. No, man, just...no. I wouldn't give up what I witnessed for 2 years just to have some modicum of wins put back into record books ex post facto.

Yeah, it's hard for me to be mad at an 18 year old kid for taking money that was given to him. And without Webber, Michigan basketball isn't as positively relevant today. And besides, those games happened, those wins happened, I don't really care that they "no longer count" as that was some of the most fun I ever had watching UM hoops.

Also, Webber never brings up the Fab Fav...hes just constantly asked about it and Rose boarders on Uncle Rico territory with how often he brings it up.

He'd rather talk about how he's "...going to be a professor at Wake Forest..."

Something tells me he's not going to get that title, seeing as he's the only member of the Fab Five who didn't get a degree.

Exactly, but you are talking to someone who blames the Fab Five for cancer. He's probably not going to give a fair analysis of the root of the problem. The idiot is now criticizing them for giving non-answers to discussions they didn't start.

OK. You don't literally blame them for cancer. You do take every single opportunity to potshot them on here, even in absurd contexts like this one. Do the right thing and remove yourself from the subject because you can't see clearly on it. "Grow up it was 25 years ago!" is not a rational response to "I don't want to talk about that."

I oppose Bando on usually everything it seems, but he's right here.

I'm so over hearing about these two guys. From the banner talk that will NEVER end, to Jalen making a public media circus during the weekend of the 2013 National Championship game over Chris going to the game or not to this.

I'm sure we're gonna hear a retort from Jalen now as he is not shy to dig up the past that is now nearing a quarter-century old.

You're so over hearing about these guys, yet you take the time to listen to an interview of Webber where he never brings up the fab five, and attempts successfully not to answer questions regarding the fab five when asked. Then you create a thread about how tired you are hearing about the fab five, linking the interview, and then telling us the exact minute mark when Webber is asked about Rose.

I have to say, you aren't doing a great job avoiding the subject matter. I would suggest to stop listening, reading, and posting about them if they bother you so much.
