Press Release

Are they like spacing these out to be one a day for the rest of the off season?

Edit: After several people pointed it out, I fixed the title.

So, you can't tell too much from just a little video. However, it appears that Tolbert is very fit himself, and looks to have the ability to relate to the players. In the video, he mentions that he's starting with "evaluating the players." I'm pretty sure they'll be feeling pain shortly under his tutelage.

Is Tolbert the one who people are saying he's the least qualified out of the assistants? It's too bad we struck out on the first choice, but I'm hoping he will be good.

Tolbert coached as the speed coach at Michigan with Gittleson during a time when Michigan's s&c program seemed to lag behind philosophically, becoming somewhat unbalanced toward muscle mass.  At least that's my understanding. It didn't help, of course, that Michigan's weight room was extremely out of date.

Then Tolbert coached at Stanford, where he worked with some of the best high intensity training coaches. I don't know enough about the 49ers to know what their philosophy was.

He certainly has the resume and the experience, but do we know what his strength philosophy is? Is he going to help us acheive the reduction in injuries that Stanford saw under Turley? Would you describe him as a s&c pioneer, reactionary, or somewhere in the middle?

I mean, do you want the school not to announce it officially? Should they just let the leaks to twitter and messageboards go as official announcements?

It may not qualify as BREAKING NEWS but calling the official announcment 'redudant' seems either pointlessly negative or a poor attempt at humor.

I like that they are doing a nice "Welcome" banner and taking the time to do the bio.  I would guess that they have these things ready to go but can't post them until the ink hits the bottom line of the contract.

I will also be curious to see what kind of cash they are putting up for these guys.
