More landlord trouble for Demens

Submitted by DanRareEgg on

AnnArbor.com is reporting that Kenny Demens is again in trouble for failing to pay his rent.  At least he's not still rooming with Cissoko.

Better move back in the dorms Kenneth.

Also after watching the tape I was pretty disappointed in his performance Saturday night.

Doesn't the university pay the rent of scholarship athletes? Either way, it doesn't seem right for the newspaper to be reporting on this.

...but that never stops Ann Arbor dot com, nor does it stop any of the MSM outlets.  I don't know when MSM officially became a another way of saying "tabloid," but I miss the old days when they were more responsible.

With roommates. The house I lived in Senior year was previously lived in swimmers and next lived in by football players. It was a seven bedroom house and they get like over $1,000 a month for room and board. You live in a cheap house with 4 other guys and you have plenty of money left over.

How does this post get upvotes when I can't even understand it?  "They get like over $1,000 a month for room and board".  Does housing cost $1,000/month or is the players stipend $1,000 month?  Why did you need a seven bedroom house for four people?  Why is the fact that the house had seven bedrooms at all relevant to the post? Am I illiterate?

I highly doubt any of these news sources have reliable and verifiably accurate information regarding his tennancy situation. I for one would like to see the football program threaten these news sources with blackout if they don't desist from harassing student athletes and reporting hearsay.

I am no lawyer but arent things like rent private/confidential between tenant and landlord? So my question is, how is this information getting to a media source?  I could be wrong but if Demens wanted to and this is confidential information, his landlord and/or the media source could be in some trouble here.

But I am not a lawyer as I said, so I could be way way off

There is generally no privilege or confidentiality associated with this type of contract. And even if there were, default judgments are just like court rulings (in fact, it IS a court ruling), which is a public record.

That said, I question the value of this story (though not enough to pull it down at this point).

Maybe he could just pay his rent. Wait, it's even more pathetic - he was clearly served with the suit (which, for those whining about violating his privacy, is public record) and failed to respond. He doesn't need a lot of money to deal with the suit as the school provides FREE legal services for students. He also could have told his coaches that he was being sued, having rent trouble, etc. It seems that he did absolutely nothing. That's lazy and irresponsible. He needs to be accountable and not shielded by complaints that the media is somehow the irresponsible party here.

This isn't good news. There was speclulation last year that Demens lost playing time because of this issue. I'm not going to speculate on how Hoke will handle this, but I don't think he's going to ignore it.

but I hope he doesn't punish him, depending on what the real story is.  If he isn't paying his rent it might be a number of personal or family factors, I'm not sure there is anything Hoke could or should do.  I certainly wouldn't feel comfortable with the head coach punishing his player for not being able to pay his bills... if he doesn't have the money he doesn't have the money.  But I am sure that Coach Hoke will be asking questions to figure out what the real story is.

What I don't get is what he was doing living in Briar Cove- that is one of the most expensive places in the area.  I lived there for a year but had to move because the rent was just "too damn high" after they were going to up my rent for year 2.  And even that adjusted rent wasn't as much as Demens was being charged!  And I actually have a decent paying job, not a college student.

I hope he gets this all cleared up and moves into a more affordable complex, even if it isn't quite as nice.
