More Bacon?? mmmmm

Are we getting another round of questions from Bacon this week that Brian gathered from us?

I just got thru the book and now I feel like I have more questions than ever.  I thought Brian said he was going to plow into the defense more in his questioning because it was glossed over in the book, but last week kinda felt like the end of the series though nothing was said.

I went to Barnes and Noble the Friday before release. They said they would have it on the 25th. On Friday the 28th they said it was available in So Cal but "none of the warehouses that supply us have it." So, I ordered from Amazon and received it yesterday.

Bottom Line: If Amazon hasn't come through on a pre-order call and ask "why not"?

Write an angry e-mail!  It works!  Sort of.

Wondering why I kept hearing (on this master blog) about people already getting their books, impatient because they'd only gotten their shipping notices, etc., when I hadn't even gotten that, I checked "my account" and saw that indeed, I had pre-ordered on June 18, the book status was "not shipped" and the estimated shipping date was "Oct. 31 - Nov. 4."

I spent an hour figuring out how to actually write to them (needless to say, our problem was not an auto-answer in the "shipping problem" category on the customer service page), I asked the same question you have, "What was the point in pre-ordering if it wasn't going to be shipped until a week or more after publication?" -- and adding my regrets in not waiting long enough to learn I could have linked from here or Bacon's website so one of them would have gotten some support points.  Of course I added at the end, "I'll never pre-order from Amazon again."

Believe it or not, I got a response the very next morning, stating that "a problem" had been discovered (though never identifying it) and in their deep remorse they offered me the fast shpping I hadn't paid for.  The book was at the door of my apartment the following morning.  Yes, not ideal, but it's in my grubby hands as I write.  (Okay, it's on the other side of the table.)

Good luck.

PS:  And if you find out what the actual problem was, I'll look for your post.  Now that I have the book, I'm more forgiving.

Anyway, I ordered it last Wednesday and it arrived on Friday. The Amazon Prime membership did not fail me.

We are going to wait until after the season to let everything marinate (and let everyone get the book) and not try to jam in posts that generate 300+ comments during a gameweek.

Well, he is married to the writer of a cooking blog...

And on the topic of marinating bacon: I highly recommend marinating bacon in Jack Daniels before cooking. Also works for beef jerkey. Seriously, try it.

That's seems like a real good idea.  I guess that's why you run this thing.

Yeah I was kinda pissed that they were having book reviews the day I got mine in the mail.  I am only on page 140ish and would love to discuss it further on here once more people have had a chance to read it all the way through.

On a related note, I just watched the movie HEAT last night. Wow, let's discuss that.

I wanna talk about HEAT!

Good, but The Town is the best heist movie ever.

...burned through about 4 chapters last night and had these thoughts:

1.  Martin seems like a fool when it came to dealing with his coaches

2. Mary Sue Coleman seems like a total B.A

3. Rich may not have been the evil red-headed step-child we all thought he was at first

4. I'm very glad that era appears to be over

Yeah, Martin looks turrible. He tried to make Rich Rod keep all of Carr's assistants. Mary Sue was like "yeah, you can't make him do that." As great as Martin was with the facilities and balance sheet he was that freaking bad with the coaching hire.

...about 39 years earlier.  Canham asked new coach Bo Schembechler to keep all of Bump Elliott's staff.  Bo did much as Rodriguez did later; he kept only a few of the prior assistants (George Mans and Frank Maloney were kept by Bo; Fred Jackson was kept by Rich) and just about all of the office/equipment staff.

What was interesting to me, was that Mary Sue Coleman seemed as though she might have been well versed on that history, and Martin had no clue.

I think it is common in that situation; the AD knows the preceding football staff; he knows how hard they worked for significantly less pay and with little other job security.  There is a loyalty factor.  Martin may have thought just as Canham did decades before.  Canham, a former track coach himself, may also have thought highly of Bump's staff.  (And another interesting parallel was that in both cases the predecessor coach -- Bump/Carr -- was going into the AD office, and had not been summarily fired.  And so there was further loyalty to coaches whose boss wasn't really leaving the program.)

thBut But the result in both cases was the same.  The new head coaches want their own guys to run their systems, and they are grateful for just a few guys to be kept over, to help with transitional things.

Maybe he can explain why he said that Devin Gardner came from Romulus High instead of Inkster. The mistakes are starting to nag at me a little
