Moorman and Kelly updates from Detnews
Cliffnotes version: Moorman would listen if Michigan called, but has not heard anything yet and Kelly would like to schedule an official visit to Michigan but it hasn't happened yet either.
http://www.detroitnews.com/story/sports/college/university-michigan/201…
Moorman is a guy I wanted us to look at for awhile. Top lineman in the state, arguably, and he has the Wisconsin seal of approval. Plus we need another OL with Bosch leaving.
Kelly is another guy that would be nice to land. Plays either RB or DB, both of which are areas of need and he seems like a Harbaugh kind of kid. Hope it happens.

We really need to start getting some commits. I figured Harbaughmania would have resulted in 5 by now.
January 12th, 2015 at 10:31 AM ^
When visits start we will start to see commits.
January 12th, 2015 at 10:33 AM ^
That's true, but signing day is only a couple weeks away.
January 12th, 2015 at 10:37 AM ^
would that be okay by you?
January 12th, 2015 at 10:52 AM ^
FIRE HARBAUGH!!!!
it's the only reasonable reaction
January 12th, 2015 at 11:53 AM ^
Uh-oh, guys. We've been notified that signing day is only a couple weeks away. It's time to recalibrate our earlier expectations that we would have until July 75th to sign prospects!
January 12th, 2015 at 12:06 PM ^
Who do you think we'll end up with in this class Mangus?
January 12th, 2015 at 12:08 PM ^
Sean Parker, Ronald Johnson, Josh Garnett, Alex Kozan, Stefon Diggs, Cameron Hunt, and Jeff Jones.
January 12th, 2015 at 12:11 PM ^
Sean Parker? Like the guy who started Facebook?
January 12th, 2015 at 12:15 PM ^
I was hoping we'd land Kris Frost.
January 12th, 2015 at 12:18 PM ^
Don't be ridiculous.
January 12th, 2015 at 12:27 PM ^
Kris Frost is the one guy out of that list who has had a good college career.
January 12th, 2015 at 12:35 PM ^
That's absolutely not true. Garnett is a starter at Stanford. Alex Kozan is a starter at Auburn. Stefon Diggs has had injury problems and just announced that he was leaving Maryland after his junior year; NFL Draft Scout lists him as the #7 wide receiver. Ronald Johnson got drafted. Sean Parker had 11 interceptions in four years at Washington.
Kris Frost was third on his team in tackles this year, second in tackles for loss, and tied for first in sacks.
January 12th, 2015 at 12:59 PM ^
I've thoroughly enjoyed this conversation with myself. Let's do this again sometime soon!
January 12th, 2015 at 1:01 PM ^
Shut up, asshole.
January 12th, 2015 at 1:01 PM ^
Fair enough.
January 12th, 2015 at 12:36 PM ^
I hear this guy has some potential not just because his name:
January 12th, 2015 at 3:42 PM ^
I like the way you operate.
January 12th, 2015 at 10:38 AM ^
what needs to happen now is to finalize the entire coaching staff and get that done. It seems like with most of the staff not being announced formally, that things may be still "a bit up in the air" in the minds of some recruits. For example, I'd think that whomever is giong to be handling DL and LB needs to be set for sure. Maybe they're telling recruits something concrete, but if they are, it hasn't come out in any tweets or other sources.
January 12th, 2015 at 10:38 AM ^
would be a surprise, with the possible exception of Chris Clark.
January 12th, 2015 at 11:22 AM ^
He's coming next weekend. Some think he will commit then.
I'm also hoping TJ may come for a vist next weekend. It would be nice to get a couple big signings to create even more excitement.
January 12th, 2015 at 11:55 AM ^
I doubt Wheatley will come next weekend. He has a visit scheduled for Alabama.
January 12th, 2015 at 10:41 AM ^
Its hard to get guys to commit when your only contact has been a phone call or text. When the dead period ends and we start to visit guys we should start to get some commits. I just hope everyone keeps their expectations in check and aren't surprised to have the remaining slots filled up with mostly 3 star guys (minus Clark and maybe Wheatley).
January 12th, 2015 at 12:09 PM ^
Guaransheed there's a topic in a few weeks which is basically "Should we be dissappointed with Harbaugh's recruiting? I would've though he'd do better than a bunch of 3 stars. Looks like Brady is a better recruiter" which will be negged into bolivian
January 12th, 2015 at 2:27 PM ^
Honestly, regardless of his reuptation, Harbaugh is in a HUGE hole. Biblical.
I would be THRILLED with a few 4 stars and the rest high-upside 3 stars at key positions.
And I would be over the effing moon if he pulls in one of the really high profile guys.
January 12th, 2015 at 11:26 AM ^
Come on, DongForest. We all knew this recruiting class wouldn't be in the top ten or twenty, but that's fine. Getting Jim as our coach is worth the sacrifice of one recruiting class. A good, proven coach is far more important than the potential of a bunch of high school players.
January 12th, 2015 at 11:47 AM ^
Uhhhh...not one recruit has met the new coach face to face yet since it's, you know...a violation.
January 12th, 2015 at 11:57 AM ^
Do us a favor and delete your account now.
January 12th, 2015 at 12:23 PM ^
We are still in the Dead Period in recruiting (that ends this Thursday), but somehow you thought that kids would commit to JH just because he tweets them or calls them. JH is going to be good, but....... lets keep ourselves in check.
Offical visits start this weekend. Commits will start happening then (or shortly there after), with only a few spots available (6-8?) they will evaproate rather quickly.
January 12th, 2015 at 12:28 PM ^
YEAH MAN WHY IS HARBAUGH TAKING TIME TO EVALUATE RECRUITS? JUST SIGN ANYONE WITH 4 OR MORE STARS NEXT TO THEIR NAME AND BE DONE WITH IT!
January 12th, 2015 at 12:37 PM ^
It's very late in the game for kids to flip to another school. Most have already made their minds up.
I'm sure Harbaugh is doing his best to bring in some more kids. Let's not panic just yet.

I expect that we will start hearing about verbals this weekend. Hoping that the baskeball game Saturday night provides a great atmosphere for the recruits.
January 12th, 2015 at 10:38 AM ^
I played football with Moorman in high school and firmly believe if offered he would commit here. Obviously I'm biased because he was a friend of mine but the kid can just flat out play. I think he has the type of mentality that could really fit well with our new coaching staff and would be a huge pickup.
January 12th, 2015 at 10:42 AM ^
start working the phones, man!!
January 12th, 2015 at 11:37 AM ^
I went to Northville and still have a couple of good friends that coach there and I've heard the kid is abeast. I would love for him to come here.
January 12th, 2015 at 3:45 PM ^
Yeah, he's been a full time starter since his sophomore year for us and played in a couple games his freshman year if my memory serves me right. Ever since his first day of practice on varsity the coaches were very high on him. Moorman is Ladach's (the head coach at Northville now) first truly big name player there.
January 12th, 2015 at 2:57 PM ^
I'm also from Northville!
January 12th, 2015 at 10:40 AM ^
I'm sure that things are "finalized" behind the scenes and those coaches are in contact with recruits. There is probably some lag time from when hires are agreed to and when they make the official announcements, probably some logistical HR type stuff.
January 12th, 2015 at 10:40 AM ^
Would he be a Tackle in college? Our current depth is skewed towards Guards and we really need some true Tackle prospects.
January 12th, 2015 at 11:03 AM ^
Newsome is a tackle all the way, and Runyan could likely play either. I think Moorman falls into that same category as Runyan.
Is our current depth skewed toward guards? Our starting tackles this past fall were a frosh and a soph, with their backups being Magnuson and Dawson, two more sophomores. JBB and LTT were behind them.
January 12th, 2015 at 11:58 AM ^
Our current depth isn't skewed toward guards. We have Cole, Braden, Magnuson, Logan Tuley-Tillman, Juwann Bushell-Beatty, and then Grant Newsome coming in. That's not to mention someone like David Dawson, who could play virtually anywhere on the line.
January 12th, 2015 at 10:42 AM ^
I have lower expectations for this year's class. It is late in the recruiting process to sway most of the big names. I think we will see the coaching hires have the greatest impact on 2016 recruits, even more so on 2017. I assume there is a longer courtship than one would expect especially for those recruits who were not life-long Michigan fans Despite its small size, I wouldn't be surprised to see Michigan bank a few scholarships rather than just get warm bodies in there.
January 12th, 2015 at 10:46 AM ^
I think we'll see a decent class ... not top 5, but decent.
The banking scholarships concept has its opponents and proponents. I'm not really sure I understand what the pros and cons are.
January 12th, 2015 at 11:00 AM ^
Given the small class size and the late start in the process, if Harbaugh can crack the top 20 in recruiting classes, we should be satisfied.
January 12th, 2015 at 6:20 PM ^
I think a top 30 class would be decent ( and better than most other B1G teams).
January 12th, 2015 at 11:34 AM ^
While I wouldn't just give schollies away, I don't see any point in banking them this year. There will be attrition before during and after spring ball. Happens every year, especially after a coaching change.

Gotta to love the "I am 100% committed to Wisconsin" but am keeping my options open. I appreciate that he's 18 years old, but keeping your options open is kinda the opposite of 100% committed.
And just why do we think Kelly is particularly Harbaugh's kind of guy?
January 12th, 2015 at 10:47 AM ^
Just Basing that on things Sam Webb has said about his competitiveness etc. I could be wrong obviously, but he seems like a good kid to have on your team even if he never becomes a star.
