It was probably that scary looking linebacker from MSU. The guy that was at the BIG 10 media days with Dantonio. He looked like he wanted to kill somebody. I would have been scared to interview him.

Per the story, he spent approximately two hours in the hospital, and his phone was stolen in the attack. At this point, they are not sure if he'll practice on Monday. That's terrible though, and on your own campus too...as others have eloquently said, "WTF is wrong with people?"
Hopefully, he makes a speedy recovery and doesn't miss much practice, if any.
This reminds me of the Steve Kampfer situation
In other news...Sparty just roughed their punter again.
Those five guys are in serious, serious trouble if the Wisconsin fanbase figures out who they are. And you can bet they will be looking.
Ball might be the most popular person in Madison. I can't imagine how enraged Badger fans are to learn about this.
Stolen phone = tracking device. Hope this leads to their arrests. Their punishment should be a 15min, closed door "apology" session with Ball and whomever he wants to invite.
First off, I hope he recovers quickly and wish him well.
Secondly, the story sounds very suspicious so far to me. It is a version of the "two dudes" story that you always hear in the ER. That story goes something like "I was minding my own business, going to Church, at 2 in the morning, when all of a sudden, for no reason, these two dudes just beat the crap out of me."
So, back to point #1, I hope he gets better soon.
I would think if they wanted to steal a cell phone that there are smaller, weaker looking people they could beat up for one...
you hear in the ED, the story you are told is never the true story.
So, for argument's sake, sometimes stories are made up in the ED for a variety of reasons and one quickly learns to discount whatever you are being told and just treat the injuries. The "why" doesn't really matter and the "how" is usually evident.
Maybe the cell phone story is true and 5 random dudes just beat him up at 2:15 in the morning. Having lived in Madison, though, it isn't really a tough area and some of the nicest parts are on the outskirts of campus.
Doesn't really matter in the end as the sensible thing is to just wish him a speedy recovery and safe travels.
Having moved from Madison about one month ago, the area where Ball was jumped has become dangerous in the last few months. Not long ago, there was a random shooting outside of a bar within a block of this attack. During the day, the area is safe. At night, things around there have gotten more dangerous.
Had the same thought about point #2. After working in the ED in Milwaukee, I concluded that if the police ever apprehended "some dude" or "two dudes," the crime rate would drop significantly.
Equally, I think one could easily do a study that would demonstrate that "minding your own business" is a statistically significant risk factor for penetrating trauma.
I pray that they catch those "two dudes" who are randomly beating the crap out of everybody!
That's horrible. Real tough for 5 guys to jump someone late at night and kick him while he is down. I'm sure they'll all enjoy talking up their toughness while playing COD:3.
On a positive note, sounds like he's out of the hospital and should recover.
He probably hired the 5 guys to do this because he just realized the Leaders division is going to be handed to Wisconsin this year by the end of September. Unless ofcourse, he did something about it
Its been a rough off season for Money Ball, didnt he get injured at Mifflin too? Aside from having to worry about playing him, he is one of my favorite players to watch in college football. Thoughts and prayers to the guy!
ESPN is reporting Ball suffered a concussion and facial injuries. "No timetable for his return."
Take that for what it's worth.

Announced their presence and intentions, Montee could have avoided the situation. But if these men just jumped him, from say, an alley, cross street, or something else, he may not have had the ability/chance to out run them.
