You were likely aware, but there is college football tonight - Pitt makes its ACC debut against Florida State. So, those football addicts who are watching the game can make their observations here. It's the final game of the opening weekend, folks, so make the most of it.
The Monday Night NCAA Football Open Thread
avery questionable and Joe Reynolds should be fine to play..
Or, you know, you could read the Hoke presser on the front page.
This week's spending money, eh?
Not looking like a real good bet at this point. One minute into the /be quarter and FSU's about to make it 14-$
I took FSU and the points.
I don't think you are 'taking the points' if you pick the favorite.
The name rings a bell.
to see what the hype is all about.
For what it is worth, Massey gives Florida State a 76% shot at this game (based on past data, of course), predicting a score over many simulations of 27-17.
I have to admire Paul Chryst's honesty there - "I have no idea who we are", regarding team identity, if that summation is to be believed.
they just said he's 6'5'' and almost 240 lbs with great speed.
He's from Pahokee. Benjamin was one of the main players followed in Muck City.
in the Wonder Years!
showing some real tackling issues.
Go Noles! Second favorite ncaa team!
He's the kid who transferred from Rutgers, yes?
His Rivals.com rating was #131
Yes, hasn't played since '10
Tom Savage is doing quite well so far for someone who hasn't seen action in a while - 3/4 for 51 yards passing counts among the 80 yards on that drive. Not a bad way to start your season.
Pitts O looking really good on that 1st drive...
Isn't Vinopal a starting safety for Pitt?
I suppose I'm rooting for Pitt but I'm not sure why.
Because they're playing florida state?
Cullen Christian sighting....on the sideline, though.
I feel it's easy to cheer for Pitt here. I'm impressed with what I'm seeing from them so far.
I'm rooting for Pitt because their quarterback is closer to my age than anyone in college football will ever be for the rest of time. That's a legitimate reason, right?
Edit: Other than Chris Weinke's imaginary son, Chris Weinke Jr.
Michigan Monday is up on Ozone. Gerdeman has written better stuff though.
just blamed Paul Pfeiffer for that interception.
Did anyone see the graphic for UTL II in which Hoke is pointing at Brian Kelly?
So, it feels like Jameis Winston should have been tackled for a slight loss on that scramble/ensuing rush, but Pitt looked a little unsure of where exactly that play was going.
Florida State only has 25 yards of rushing at this point, but then Pitt's pass defense hasn't given them much to be concerned about when it comes to throwing into traffic.
I went to the yahoo sports page to check the score of this game and I really hate the new layout. On the previous format, you could click on any team and see all the scores for that team's conference. Now if you want to check the score of matchup between unranked teams, you have to click through pages and pages of nonsense.
Oh god, don't get me started! The Yahoo Sports redesign is a HCI nightmare!
Their new design is complete garbage and they have been getting lambasted about it. Who the hell thought a fuzzy, out-of-focus picture of a football field/baseball diamond was a good idea for a background image?
I cannot believe that someone got paid for that mess of hot vomit.
Winston is on pace to never throw an incomplete pass in his college career. Anything less will be a disappointment.
It's just a matter of their defense being able to get to the FSU QB who just seems on automatic. The offense looks good though. Hopefully they find a way to win.
I hope you didn't bet much because you're toast.
Worst field goal kicker's name ever?
Pitt is making this too easy for him.
Pitt looks like they're in Lloyd Carr up by 20 prevent defense already.
death by a thousand paper cuts.
Seriously. That's the most GERG/Tony Gibson pass defense I've ever seen. How was Pitt top 20 pass d last year? Terrible Big East probably.
Florida St has to go to Clemson who seems to always have their number. That game should be nuts.
You must work for ESPN. FSU will not go undefeated this year. They will lose to an inferior opponent like they do every season.
is that they haven't been a physical team even with all that talent. They have always been more of a finesse team. Their last 1000 yard rusher was Warrick Dunn.
They just need to go into man ball mode with Pitt.
passing offense. They get their receivers open, and even a freshman quarterback with jitters can hit them without throwing interceptions.
Yeah, I'm impressed with the offense design. WR are WIDE open.
passing offense is well conceived. : )
is not well designed for FSU QB to succeed because it requires a lot more difficult throws for them to make. This year, they changed the offense to accommodate Winston's talent and it is much better than it was before.
You have a shot in your bet if there is no scoring for the rest of the half and FSU can clamp down on D in the second half. Also, you need no garbage time scoring.
14/15 for 179 yards and 3 TD's (1 Rushing). Oh, and he gets the ball back with 1:56 so we can see the 2 minute drill..
This kid can play...he's a redshirt freshman and pissed he's not getting the play call on time. He's picking Pitt apart.
are we sure Tony Gibson isnt still there
The thing is, Winston's stats make him look like a Heisman winner, but his throws haven't been on, his receivers are just crazy wide open.
Yeah, more impressed with the design of the offense. When WR are consistently that wide open, the OC and WR are doing something right.
That, or Pitt's DC and secondary coach are doing something wrong.
Over? Looks like the 2nd half may feature more close-ups of Jesse Palmer eating sandwiches.
Reece is Great but Jesse almost makes the game unwatchable. He's a wannabe Herbstreit gasbag.
I really like Jesse Palmer.
or if Pitt's secondary is just awful. I'm leaning toward Pitt's secondary as being awful.
Winston is a beast
Yeah - Andrew Maxwell would have 200 yards right now if he were FSU's QB.
Heisman front runner against this secondary.
that if Tom Brady and Peyton Manning were fused together, they might equal Winston.
So, yeah, Florida state has gained 298 yards on 32 plays, which is good for 9.31 yards per offensive snap. By contrast, Pitt has gained 178 yards over 32 plays as well, so 5.5 yards per snap for them.
Jameis Winston's QB rating in his first half of college football is 261.4. It's only one half, but damn. By contrast, Tom Savage's first half QB rating would be 96.3.
His reasoning for why ND didnt play Michigan in the 40's has so little relevance to why Michigan doesnt play now.
Clearly he should be fired
That was his point... I.e. that those we extenuating circumstances and indeed this IS a good rivalry. He was disagreeing with Kelly
He actually said the Michigan/ND game was a great rivaly.
I'd love to see how Hoke uses Kelly's comments. I know Kelly's got to play down the rivalry but come on man. #1 v #2 all time!
He should have used the normal coach speak and fluff.
He added a bit of fuel. Big deal
Kelly is toeing the company line. Both teams may not be as highly ranked as they used to be but it's still a big game. I give it 5-7 years and we will be playing again.
Ouch. 13-yard sack.
It already was a three possession game Jesse.
Jameis Winston has some big fucking nuts for a freshman
Cool story... Bro
