Michigan vs Concordia
7:30. The game will air on the Big Ten Network.
Hopefully we don't struggle with them as we did Harvard.
Harvard is one million times better than Concordia.
Harvard is a decent D1 team
Concordia is a mediocre NAIA team
By gametime, this might not even be on the front page anymore.
Just so excited for this colossal matchup. Does anyone know if this game will go towards RPI or not?
Thankfully, not in RPI.
However, a nice touch to schedule Concordia and great community relations. Really, they should consider doing this regularly as a pre-season game, and not as part of the official schedule.
Curious . . . who is responsible for the schedule? Beilein, his staff, or the AD office?
No it won't, only D1 counts for RPI and Concordia is NAIA
Michigan up quickly 17 to 2 !
It's also interesting seeing that including the Harvard game, that the team will have 8 straight home games
Since we have some time on our hands before the big big game starts, I was wondering who you guys consider the best basketball coach in M history? Cazzies coach, Johnny Orr, Bill Frieder, Steve Fisher, Tommy Amaker, John Belien. Tough call, but I gots to with Fisher number one and Johnny Orr number two.
My vote is a -1 to Tommy Amaker. Good at getting talent here but that was about it.
Well Orr left Michigan to go to Iowa State because they offered him more money. I guess I am going to change my vote to Orr, since Wiki'ing Orr, I am now informed he was quite a baller in the 40's.
Stuuuuuuuuuu with the deep 3! 20-3 Michigan
why we are playing concordia? they are NAIA right? how is a D1 school playing an NAIA school?
Ann Arbor bragging rights need to be settled.
John Beilein had the long answer in a Free Press article:
"You have 32 games," coach John Beilein said. "You see Kansas play Emporia State, Kansas State plays Emporia State, they're really playing Division II (teams). Concordia is NAIA, which is essentially the same as Division II, a non-counter on your RPI record. If you are playing a very low RPI team, it actually takes your RPI down. It's a huge payday to pay somebody (else) to come in. So we thought it was best to play a local team."
Michigan and Concordia have forged a relationship recently out of necessity. As the Wolverines construct their new practice facility and Crisler Arena is in line for renovations, the Wolverines have used Concordia's gym to practice and likely will again.
"There's a lot of teams in the state we could play -- we traditionally play one Division II game each year," Beilein said, though the past few years it was the opener. "We decided to play the local team.”
gotta say, if we're gonna pay for a win, i'm definitely in favor of concordia or another in state school
just saying that the Red Wings play at 7:30 at home against San Jose for anyone also interested. In case ol' blue goes up big early and wanted to see what else is on :D.
No internet streams, but this has a streamtorrent. Usually questionable quality and very far behind (30 seconds or so).
Having a great point guard, who is in control of the offense, is just a lot of fun to watch. What a huge get Morris was for Beilein. He really was the first big-time commit for him, and started to get the ball rolling.
He just looks so much more confident and comfortable this year. He seems to have better court vision as well.
Jordon Morgan with a couple of deep 2's, didn't know he had that kind of range.
Not much of a crowd at the game.
Concordia has an enrollment of 668. So like one out of every 60 students is on the basketball team!
We're winning, as expected, but holy crap is Concordia fast or am I just imagining that? They're moving well and making us move the ball around quite a bit as a result.
Also, we looked a bit confused when they stretched to a full half-court defense, which could be trouble later against better competition.
Those one out of 60 students are pretty good. 22-17 M
Did anyone else see the student section turn into chaos at one point in the first half? I think I'm losing it.
too close of a game
My alma-mater Ferris State could pound this Concordia team and we seem to be struggling with them. (Although they did take Indiana to overtime in the preseason) I hope it's just us coming out flat. The defense has been terrible and a 6-5 overweight white dude is their best offense.

If they were able to take IU to overtime, maybe you shouldn't assume Ferris would pound them.
Ok, I have pulled the game up on BTN gamecast and ESPN gamecast, but both at 14:51 left in the game, BTN has it 54-43 Michigan and ESPN has it 51-45 Michigan. Uhmm am I missing something?
It's pretty easy to shoot when you have open looks in the post and on the wing. Michigan's D is leaving much to be desired.
They can get what they want on offense, but so can Concordia right now.
Post D has been awesome. Oh wait, you mean to tell me a NAIA center who is 6'5" shouldn't have 25 points?
has 21 points and is showing some pretty good moves in the post. Uh, 5 point game with 13 min left....check that, Stu for 3 to make it 8 and just as that happened, Holmes abusing Blue defenders in the post.
We have 1 guy who is capable of guarding him and thats Morgan. Everyone else in the post needs to put on a few pounds.
was the main guy getting abused in the first half by ROCKO!
Concordia's leading scorer only has 3 points.
59-54 w/ 11 min. Outboarding Michigan right now
why does Beilein get a free pass in his 4th year, yet Rodriguez may need a win just to keep his job? I don't get it. We were at this same level under Amaker. This team is no better 4 years after Amaker left. In fact they might be worse. I just don't understand why Beilein gets a free pass.
It's all about expectations.
that's fine, but the basketball program has been a doormat for 15 years. The scandal of the late 90's has nothing to do with being successful now.
I don't think he gets a "free pass." He made a nice tourney run in his second season, has recruited well, and players have improved under his watch. Yes, last season was a disappointment, but I think this year's team could suprise people and is better than the team last year. They are more balanced and other players now feel like they can shoot and not have to look for Manny or Sims every trip down the floor.
What's the real score. Why is it different on different sites.
Darius Morris is doing a great job w/ 11 assists and double figures pts. Best player on the floor and dictating offense and going where he wants to run the offense. Great hesitation and crossover dribbles to actually get somewhere (not for show)
Well, order is being restored. Stu w/ an and One, M 65-54. TV Timeout!
Why does a school with only 668 students look evenly matched with a Big 10 team?
getting pretty good looks inside and out while staying pretty even on the boards. They really can't hang defensively but Michigan is settling for shots they don't need to take. When they shoot 30 percent, that happens.
It seems like under Beilen, this team has always played up or down to the level of its competition. Rarely are they involved in blowouts, whether on the losing or winning end.
We're up 65-54 right now....like 9 minutes left
