Taking a page from the Cam Newton book... have your parents execute your nefarious actions
That I want Pryor to stay only because it will just seperate osu more, and add more fire to the gas where there is already fire
No. Not wrong. Ever.
that could be the funniest and most accurate response to a post that I have ever seen on this blog. A picture is worth a thousand words as they say. Well played.
I thought his parents were poor, and that's why he had to sell his awards? Wasn't that what he said in an interview at some point?
I'm unaware of Pryor having ever publicly spoken about the scandal.
Robert Rose said that people had to sell their stuff for free tats...because they needed money?
I don't think Pryor himself ever spoke on the scandal, but the idea that he sold jerseys to provide money to his family was put forth by OSU and his former HS coach. http://sports.espn.go.com/ncf/news/story?id=5950873
It does seem that Pryor is now trying to have it both ways. Also, in the ESPN blog post linked below, I find it funny that his dad said that Pryor traded in his car to buy the new one, and specifically mentions the honda they bought him in high school, yet the car the dealership shows was traded in was a dodge charger.
My only point was that no, I don't think Terrelle Pryor ever said that.
You don't think he would have if OSU ever let their players talk to the media? Everyone around the story was toeing the line "the poor student athletes were just doing what they could to help their families." You don't think that Pryor would toe that same line, knowing that it sheds his actions in the best possible light?
I understand that the previous excuse doesn't mean that his mother doesn't have the money to buy him at least three cars in three years ("the honda" his dad claimed they bought him, the dodge charger used in the trade-in, and the 350Z he's now using), but it does indicate that OSU/Pryor/et al. were/are lying somewhere along the way.
I'm not commenting about what he hypothetically would have done.
The commenter said that "Pryor said...".
He did not.
It's not a matter of interpretation or opinion, it's a simple fact. He did not say that. I'm not insinuating anything by repeating this fact.
I think you're nit-picking.
I see very little difference between saying something yourself or allowing others to say it on your behalf. I certainly didn't see Pryor take issue with the comments.
How is it nit-picking? He said that something happened. It did not happen.
That is not nit-picking, it's fact.
There is no interpretation. What he said happened did not, actually happen. Period. Why is this even a debate?
Yes, it was that quote by Reitz that I was thinking of... that Pryor sold the items to help his mother. I apologize for mistakenly attributing it to Pryor himself.
But that's what has always been reported. This explanation makes no sense unless she won the lottery recently.
from Jeanrette Specialty Glass. I am sure all employees received some type of bonus in their paychecks and that she was not given special treatment.
Tressel rigged the lottery... he's been known to do that, you know.
No, no, no!
His parents "were" poor until he sold his awards. Now they have enough money to buy cars. Loopholed...
Exactly. He gives mom the money, which she uses on his car. It's laundering. Or something like that.
They probably used a loan shark, using his upcoming NFL paycheck as a back-up tight end as collateral.
""I am not doing anything wrong," she said. "I mean, I have a job, I work all the time. My son's had a car since he was 18-year-old. What's the difference? Everybody has a car. It doesn't matter to me. My son is what matters to me. I wish everybody would understand that." (emphasis added)
I guess the "Everybody has it/does it" excuse is embedded in the Pryor family DNA...
Everybody drives 8 cars in 3 years
I see you removed the dong before posting it. Good call.
She's got a job! She can afford to pay $250 a month for her sons car while she takes the bus. I mean, he'll be a big time NFL player so he can just give her millions like he was in college!
I don't understand. If Terrelle Pryor's mother really is financing his car, would you have a problem with that?
Or just the first? Is she poor, or rich, or does she just like to pamper her son? What about TP's mentor, that glass factory dude? He's not involved at all?
I'm just curious - do we actually know that his mother is poor?
It's unclear, but based on its wikipedia page, the town of Jeannette, PA seems to be lower-middle-class.
The median income for a household in the city was $29,091, and the median income for a family was $37,038. Males had a median income of $32,413 versus $21,702 for females. The per capita income for the city was $15,961. About 10.9% of families and 15.0% of the population were below the poverty line, including 21.2% of those under age 18 and 13.2% of those age 65 or over.
but there are plenty of people who live well beyond their means. Now, I still think that there is some crooked shit going on here, but I'm just saying, it's not 100% impossible that his mom is paying A car bill for him.
someone who lived in Columbus indicated that she is a nurse at a hospital there these days.
I believe it also said that the pay for her job was aprox. 40k a year.
She's a lab tech
she works at the same hospital I do.
She does not have an income to be buying her son a 20+K car.
She does not have the income to buy one for herself.
A documentary-type show about Pryor's high school team gave the strong impression of a bunch of kids with very little money. A die-hard Buckeye friend of mine who reads Bucknuts, etc. religiously told me (based on what was said on those sites) that part of the reason that Pryor sold memorabilia was to help his mother pay her rent.
Above I said that the explanation that Pryor's mom paid for the car didn't make sense based on what was "reported." I should have been more careful with my language and said "what was said on OSU sites" rather than "reported." So, I don't know that his mother is poor, but that's the strong impression that I've been given.
and already posted the ESPN article above. Still worth reading because in December, Mama Pryor was praising Terelle for getting $1200 to help the family out.
Maybe not having a $20k car would have also helped the family out.
is the article seriously stating that though he got his license revoked, he has insurance now so it's ok? a suspended license is a suspended license. This is not EITHER license OR insurance, Terrelle. Its not like EITHER cars OR tattoos. Oh wait...he seems to have both of those things.
The revoked license issue is my favorite part of this whole scandal. And Pryor's lawyer's response to the lack of insurance issue is hilarious. He essentially said that he has insurance, but hasn't shown anyone that needs to know proof of it because he's an idiot. What a great message to put out there!
any details about the Dodge Charger she traded in???
I'm still trying to convince my wife we need a 350Z convertible, so I'm familiar with the pricing on them. I entered Columbus into KBB then selected the lowest optioned 350Z and got this http://www.kbb.com/nissan/350z/2007-nissan-350z/coupe-2d/?vehicleid=84125&intent=buy-used&category=coupe&pricetype=private-party&anchor=true
Fair (aka POS) goes for ~15K. That means he allegedly got $5K for a trade on his charger that he got as a trade for his Honda that he had since HS.
This is reminding me of the kid that traded a cellphone for a Porshe on Craigslist. http://www.ktla.com/news/landing/ktla-glendora-teen-cell-phone-porsche,0,4101656.story
He had to sell all that stuff to support the family.....big surprise since they are buying new cars all the time. Poor finiancial planning. Why is everyone picking on these people? Terrelle is a good kid, from a fiscally irresponsible family....it could have happened to any of us. Poor kid.
I had to check the homepage before I realized it was a humor piece. Then I read the part about Terrelle bailing out and his jet taking out a crowded daycare/senior retirement center, and I called BS.
She's brought the car, so he can legally have it. And she's probably got a license, which means he can drive it.
Her name is "Thomasina"? Really...
As long as she's not Orangejello or Lemonjello I'm good with it...
that was my only reaction to the article as well!
all i could think of is that if you're a dude named thomas about to get a sex change and you totally lack creavitity, isn't thomasina the name you'd choose?? i didn't realize trannies could become mothers...
It's a $21,000 car!!!! Not $11,000
Special deal anyone??
