I don't think Pryor himself ever spoke on the scandal, but the idea that he sold jerseys to provide money to his family was put forth by OSU and his former HS coach.  http://sports.espn.go.com/ncf/news/story?id=5950873

It does seem that Pryor is now trying to have it both ways.  Also, in the ESPN blog post linked below, I find it funny that his dad said that Pryor traded in his car to buy the new one, and specifically mentions the honda they bought him in high school, yet the car the dealership shows was traded in was a dodge charger.

You don't think he would have if OSU ever let their players talk to the media?  Everyone around the story was toeing the line "the poor student athletes were just doing what they could to help their families."  You don't think that Pryor would toe that same line, knowing that it sheds his actions in the best possible light?

I understand that the previous excuse doesn't mean that his mother doesn't have the money to buy him at least three cars in three years ("the honda" his dad claimed they bought him, the dodge charger used in the trade-in, and the 350Z he's now using), but it does indicate that OSU/Pryor/et al. were/are lying somewhere along the way.

It's unclear, but based on its wikipedia page, the town of Jeannette, PA seems to be lower-middle-class.

The median income for a household in the city was $29,091, and the median income for a family was $37,038. Males had a median income of $32,413 versus $21,702 for females. The per capita income for the city was $15,961. About 10.9% of families and 15.0% of the population were below the poverty line, including 21.2% of those under age 18 and 13.2% of those age 65 or over.

A documentary-type show about Pryor's high school team gave the strong impression of a bunch of kids with very little money.  A die-hard Buckeye friend of mine who reads Bucknuts, etc. religiously told me (based on what was said on those sites) that part of the reason that Pryor sold memorabilia was to help his mother pay her rent.

Above I said that the explanation that Pryor's mom paid for the car didn't make sense based on what was "reported." I should have been more careful with my language and said "what was said on OSU sites" rather than "reported."  So, I don't know that his mother is poor, but that's the strong impression that I've been given.

and already posted the ESPN article above.  Still worth reading because in December, Mama Pryor was praising Terelle for getting $1200 to help the family out.

Maybe not having a $20k car would have also helped the family out.

is the article seriously stating that though he got his license revoked, he has insurance now so it's ok? a suspended license is a suspended license. This is not EITHER license OR insurance, Terrelle. Its not like EITHER cars OR tattoos. Oh wait...he seems to have both of those things.

The revoked license issue is my favorite part of this whole scandal.  And Pryor's lawyer's response to the lack of insurance issue is hilarious.  He essentially said that he has insurance, but hasn't shown anyone that needs to know proof of it because he's an idiot.  What a great message to put out there!

I'm still trying to convince my wife we need a 350Z convertible, so I'm familiar with the pricing on them.  I entered Columbus into KBB then selected the lowest optioned 350Z and got this  http://www.kbb.com/nissan/350z/2007-nissan-350z/coupe-2d/?vehicleid=84125&intent=buy-used&category=coupe&pricetype=private-party&anchor=true

Fair (aka POS) goes for ~15K.  That means he allegedly got $5K for a trade on his charger that he got as a trade for his Honda that he had since HS.

This is reminding me of the kid that traded a cellphone for a Porshe on Craigslist.  http://www.ktla.com/news/landing/ktla-glendora-teen-cell-phone-porsche,0,4101656.story

He had to sell all that stuff to support the family.....big surprise since they are buying new cars all the time.  Poor finiancial planning.  Why is everyone picking on these people?  Terrelle is a good kid, from a fiscally irresponsible family....it could have happened to any of us.  Poor kid.
