Molk for Rimington?

Submitted by imdeng on

We have not won any end of season awards for a few years now - the last one was the Lombardi for Woodley in 2006. This year of course we have the Denard HE16MAN thing going on - but I remember that Molk was in the preseason Rimington watch list. Now that Molk has been pretty great in last five games, what chance do you think he has to get the Rimington if he keeps performing at the current level?

How are other Rimington watch list folks are doing? Anybody else blowing up?

But in all honesty I'm not sure he's played well enough to be named the best center in the nation.  Remember that these watch lists typical include about a player per every two teams, which basically means most starting centers from major conferences are on this list.  Now I think Molk is good and could potentially be all Big Ten first or second team this year, but I don't think he has established himself quite as well as the number one center in the nation.  Maybe he'll do something in the second half of the season to shut me up, I hope so, but as of now, unfortunately he isn't the best Center in the nation.

But Molk, IME, played better last year up to this point.  But if you want some possibilities I would check the PAC-10 conference.  USC, Stanford, and Arizona all have real good centers that are being recognized for playing well

I think that Omameh should get consideration for the Outland.  He's having an amazing year so far, and next to Robinson he's probably the player most responsible for all of our big runs.

IME, Molk getting hurt last year was a key factor in us struggling the rest of the season.  I never played OL, so I don't always know what makes an OL "great" other than not giving up sacks (which we have) and racking up huge numbers (which we have).  He took a bad penalty a couple of games ago, and of course there was the fumble last game (not sure if that was him or Robinson or both), but otherwise the OL has been outstanding with him as their most important piece.  My pre-season prediction was 13-0 with Denard winning the Heisman and Molk taking the Rimmington, so I am going to stick with that until proven otherwise!  :)
