There was really nothing extravegant on the show we didn't already know. I figured they were going to address Torg's statements.  Let's get this deleted and not give legs to a rumor when his own station won't bring it up in an interview with Forde...recruits don't need to hear this.

Formerly akron_wolverine and columbus_wolverine.  New home, new name.  A year in Columbus was enough.

this store rumor emerged the same time that denard was being accused of selling tickets to games to wealthy alumni who blackmailed him into staying. of course, this rumor failed to pass the smell test of WHAT TICKETS HE WOULD HAVE TO SELL THAT ALUMNI WOULD PAY MORE FOR THAN 50 YD LINE TICKETS.

i stress this heavily because these stories were paired together equally through the 'same source.' to believe UM players sold autographs to this store would be to believe Denard sold tickets to wealthy boosters who forced him to stay and not transfer.

OSU is flat out denying they even received a letter from the NCAA. If you have a 24/7 account, you can read Bucknuts' story on OSU's denial of said letter from the NCAA.

I find the denial interesting, because as mentioned, the response from OSU says "no new allegations" but the report says OSU denied receiving a letter about additional investigation.

Either OSU's lying, ESPN is lying, or there's a murky truth somewhere in between. I'm going with option 3.

I believe the following excerpts from the Dispatch article point to a possible explanation of what's going on:

[1]  The university has received no indications from the NCAA that it could face additional allegations or findings, Lynch said.

[...]

[2]  The letter did not make any references to an ongoing investigation of the football program, Lynch said.

[3]  “The university has not received any additional allegations from the NCAA ... We do not anticipate discussing any additional allegations” on Friday, Lynch wrote in a statement.

Excerpt 1 could well be the "talking point" that OSU's PR machine wanted to make.  That is, even if the letter said that OSU's Football Program remains under investigation, that does not, in and of itself, indicate that OSU will face any other allegations or findings.

In excerpt 2,  Lynch may have strayed from this "talking point," stating that the letter did not make any reference to an ongoing investigation.

In excerpt 3, a written statement by Lynch is quoted, in which he gets back in line with the "talking point" in excerpt 1.

Given the efforts of the OSU PR machine this week, you can probably go ahead and add another $10,000 or so to the $800,000 bill OSU is racking up on its "defense."

There is nothing wrong with getting a player's autograph and selling it. A quick ebay search shows just how easy it is to find the stuff. Hell, the university is holding a fan day this weekend where a big part of it is meeting the players and getting their autograph. I would ignore Torg until something truly concrete comes out.

The difference is that with OSU the players were a direct link. There was no middle man, just players selling stuff intended only for players (rings, pants, etc) directly to fans and pocketing all the cash. What the previous poster was talking about is a player giving an autograph to a fan, then that fan sells it online and keeps the change himself. There's a difference

Ohio State University denies an ESPN report that officials received a letter last week from the NCAA informing the university that other issues involving the football program remain under investigation.

OSU spokesman Jim Lynch said this evening that ESPN’s report, based on multiple unidentified sources, is incorrect.

ESPN’s Pat Forde reported: “This is basically going to be a two-pronged investigation; there’s going to be more allegations to come in the future.” Comment was being sought from ESPN on Ohio State’s denial of its story.

The university has received no indications from the NCAA that it could face additional allegations or findings, Lynch said.

Lynch said that OSU President E. Gordon Gee received a letter from the NCAA on Aug. 3, but it concerned only procedural matters about the appearance of OSU officials before the Infractions Committee on Friday.

The letter did not make any references to an ongoing investigation of the football program, Lynch said. Ohio State cannot immediately release the letter because if must undergo legal review prior to its release, he said.

“The university has not received any additional allegations from the NCAA ... We do not anticipate discussing any additional allegations” on Friday, Lynch wrote in a statement.

is this Torg guy claims that UlofM players may have been getting hooked up by this memorabelia dealer in ohio.  The only thing I can say to that is if Denard or whoever wanted to make a couple hundred bucks for signing an autograph or 2.. do you really think they would have to go to this dealer in Ohio to do it?  I call major bullshit. This thing reeks of OSU slaps trying to spread the heat.

EDIT: They just got through the entire Forde interview and never mentioned Michigan. Sounds like any "Michigan involvement" is bullshit from the Torg guy.
