Moderator Action Sticky #3

Submitted by Brian on

Hello. The previous mod action sticky was cumbrously long so this is a new one. What this thread is for:

This thread is an ad-hoc way of tracking what threads and comments get removed. Mods that remove a thread should post the title here with a brief reason as to why the thread is gone.

NOTE: if you leave an irrelevant comment in this thread it will be deleted.

Update: There's now a Mod Action Sticky IV.

Does anyone want two free tickets to today's hoops game?

At the request of the OP (for the tickets have now been claimed), this will come down now. Have an excellent time, MGoBlogger ryholly!

26-24 Michigan. **** -Hio.

There was a prediction thread only recently pushed off the first page, and there is a "BEAT OHIO" thread already. Because we're going to need to manage other content later, let us keep these things in those threads, folks.

I'm going to break our strick "no religion" policy and tell all the mods I'll be praying for you guys today.  If things go as predicted I cannot even imagine what your job is going to be like in a few hours.

Today could set records for most deleted comments, threads and users.  When the dust settles later you should post the final tally on not just cursing but also the collateral damage you guys had to clean up.

The Hardest Part

Probably could be parceled out and posted in numerous existing threads. Also, if the song I am thinking of is any indication, clearly it was Ned Beatty who had the hardest part.

What a Turn of Events for Bucknuts

We have one or two threads which - when combined - cover this particular topic. Not a bad idea though.

Possible coaching moves

At this time, unless someone has specific information which they can share freely, please contribute these thoughts to the numerous threads on the first few pages of the board. There is a point where endless theorizing is just not productive unless we have information.

Al Borges must still be fired

The position of a sizeable portion of MGoBloggers is well-understood and can be discussed in about 800,000,000 other threads created over the past month. Nothing new here, and another thread on the subject really is not needed.

Ohio State won't suspend ejected players from Big Ten title game

If the trolling and general sniping were cleaned up in this thread, there would scarcely be a thread. It's an interesting topic, but this was far too MLive-ish in some respects to stay on the board. I don't think that's what we need here.

Another new OSU troll in the front page game thread who goes by Urban_Warfare. Besides trolling, he's stealing the name of one of our decent Buckeye friends who posts respectfully and thoughtfully.

I also believe the person he responded to has made his point very clear in multiple places and has added nothing to the site other than the fact that he hates the currect state of the program.

I'm probably bias, but he at least deserves a warning for stinking up every thread with nothing more than doom and gloom and chicken littling.

There probably is a trip to a South American country calling, but the response was to one of many of the negativity trolling some long time posters have been doing.  It's not that people can't express less than positive takes; but bombarding over and over again with the exact same iinarticulate thought is just annoying. Maybe not "go slit your wrist" annoying, but in need of being stopped just about as much.

Big Ten Awards: Lewan & Funchess Win OL/TE of the Year Awards, +others

Nearly all of the information in this post is covered in the post that was just below it, so the OP is welcome to fill in the blanks in that thread. Seems like one should be enough.

2013 All-Big Ten Teams Announced

This was already posted as a thread, which was in turn bumped to diary status. The diary is still on the front page of diaries, so we shall allow that to stand for now.

....and it might be early, but....

OT: Detroit gets judge's OK to proceed with bankruptcy (one party will appeal)

Threads have appeared before about the various stages of this story and nearly all of them have ended up sliding downhill. Not saying that it isn't a significant event for those of us that live in SE Michigan, but I am trying to be safe here, not sorry.

Tigers sign Joe Nathan

It is off the front page now, but this did make it to the board earlier today. Interesting news and not a bad deal, to say the least, but alas too late for MGoBlog purposes.

Tigers sign closer Joe Nathan to 2-year contract

This was discussed yesterday. One thing that might be helpful for people posting threads to consider is that there is a a sizeable group of Tigers fans here and team news makes it here almost as fast as Michigan news.

More assertive: Courtney Sims or Glenn Robinson III?

Questioning a player's "effort" and "desire" in a board post is probably not the best thing to do, especially because these are things that we couldn't possibly know about. In-game stuff is fine as always, but this probably should come down as is.

Sharing a Drake Harris rumor, unsubstantiated of yet

If it is unsubstantied, then it really doesn't have a place on the board. If something is confirmed, do feel free to post it, but most every thread that starts with a rumor or hearsay simply hasn't ended well.

Rumors Swirling-Saban to Texas. Recruit sway?

From the sound of things, this was a joke started at an Austin radio station and there is no basis for the rumor. Even though it is not about Michigan, as the disconfirming information was posted in the thread, there doesn't seem like much point in keeping the thread now.

Saban to Texas rumors

See above note. Also, read this story here for more background on the lack of legs regarding this.

Let me know if you all need my help.  I can get more involved in adminstrative matters if you need me - not real involved, just more than I am now.  Email me if you need me - I'm happy to help.

UM the second highest watched team. Alabama is first.

Very interesting topic, but it was posted yesterday. I think we need to consider some sort of "blackout period" if a topic like this has been posted before the next thread is allowed to stand. Not sure what that would be / how that would be monitored.

Staff changes coming?

A little early morning cleaning here. It turns out that all this was is indeed what the OP sent - a link to one sentence sent to him on Twitter. No one porivded any more details, and without such details, the thread is simply more baseless speculation.

Possible Recruiting Defections: Whose Fault Is It?

This is probably not a good thing to contemplate on the board, and indeed, it may not be a particularly good question to ask as it invites a rather divisive discussion.

Hey, David Dawson still came, right?

Apologies to DCAlum here - it was a good thought to combat the negativity, but now that some of the other threads are being taken down to minimize the recruiting emo and try to keep the board in as neutral a state as possible.

Can you lock threads for a few minutes at least before deleting them? that way I don't post long winded repsonses only to be greeted with "access denied" when I try to post.

Sure it's partly my fault for getting suckered into threads like that but give us some heads up before deletion, maybe?

I've gotten the "access denied" several times in these situations too.  To me, it's a minor price to pay to help keep the board on track.  I think it's a better stragegy to just keep doing it the way you're doing it.  Quite a bit of mischief can occur in 10-15 minutes.
