Moderator Action Sticky #3

Submitted by Brian on

Hello. The previous mod action sticky was cumbrously long so this is a new one. What this thread is for:

This thread is an ad-hoc way of tracking what threads and comments get removed. Mods that remove a thread should post the title here with a brief reason as to why the thread is gone.

NOTE: if you leave an irrelevant comment in this thread it will be deleted.

Update: There's now a Mod Action Sticky IV.

The fact that His Dudeness can pull his act for 4 years and it goes unabated, but stating that if anyone had dogged on Rich last week (no one did; imagine the self control) it would have been deleted in a second but this thread created to just start a flame war is ok is hypocritical is a funny way to looking at things. It's cowardly because you take your medicine and tand up and be counted when things aren't going your way, and just don't bring up things when it flip flops in your favor. If Rich is that on-topic, he was just as much last week.

Cashing out for the year and maybe forever

This has been up long enough. These sorts of announcements cause very little aside from exacerbating an already bad situation on the boards. They also bring up the seemingly divisive issue of the dimensions of "fandom". Let's just not go there right now.

You are Brady Hoke for this week. What is your game plan to eat Ohio State?

Eh, I think we have enough crowdsourcing of the gameplan going for now. That, and as others pointed out here, eating Buckeyes is not a good thing for your health overall.

Serious question. Should I boo on Saturday?

I left it up for a while to let people vent and let the OP know how people felt, but again, divisive threads like this aren't what we should have on the board right now.

...before my vacation in Bolivia. Users like jhender85 are exactly the reason I created that thread. I wanted something positive. This is why we can't have nice things. I will now go wash my mouth out with soap due to my excessive thread profanity.

(ESPN RUMOR) Potential Coaching Moves

This is purely a judgment call, and if I get overruled by other mods / higher authorities, that's fine, but I don't know if unsubstantiated rumors are the best thing to have on a site that tries to gets its ducks in a row on most things before breaking stories.

I'm not sure if you can create settings so that a user has to be registered for (say) 14 days before posting, but I think this would be a good idea at certain times of the year, including right now.  I think it would deter the worst trolls.

So let's review: On MGoBlog, referring to someone as an idiot because they continue to espouse the same stupid opinion over and over again, thread after thread, usually while arguing against the lowest common denominator of whatever is the opposite of their opinion is enough to you banned? On the word of M-Wolverine, one of the worst fans and members of this site? The guy whose entire purpose for posting the last three years has been to bitch about the former staff, then crow about the current staff, then go silent when realizing that, you know, he was pretty much wrong about everything? A grown man who tattles on people like a school girl (I know what literally means. You are what you are)?

Newsflash: When people argue in real life, they often call someone stupid when that person has a stupid opinion. Then they make up later because a heated football argument isn't that important.  At least where I come from where people interact in real life and realize that arguing over football isn't life or death, its not a big deal. This shouldn't be any different, but obviously when you've got people who have made an internet board their entire social life, the rules are different.

Later.

But I'd say having to rejioin a place that banned you says a lot more about your issues than mine. Because name calling and making things up isn't arguing.  And the next time you "make up" with anyone will be the first. It's a pot-kettle situation, because you didn't make up with anyone, you just disappeared yourself, and only came back for to try the rudest "I told you so's ever." I can't argue with you because you just make stuff up and keep repeating it. And there are too many like you around here now to make it worth my time. I was just glad your weird little obsession had transferred to Reader71 for awhile. Space Coyote and the Last Hoke and the others can tilt at windmills now if they want...but fighting stupidity is exhausting, and they'll tire of it soon enough.

But take a look, me saying someone should get banned hardly means they're going to get banned. If I point out what you say and it gets you banned, time to man up and look in the mirror. Hopefully you'll do that before you come back. Because we all know you'll come back. (Already have).

Hypothetical: Hoke is not the guy, who are the candidates for next HC?

Hypothetically speaking, the tribe has spoken on this one and this discussion is turning out to be the same as the 200 that came before it throughout the month of November.

Keep Calm and Go Blue

Between the Hate Week threads and the other thread calling for calm, I think we can take this down for now. I understand and agree with the OP is trying to achieve here, but we have other people trying to achieve right now as well. We need to try to keep some other content on the board.

Where, in recruiting threads (especially in a play specific one), we don't bash a kids decision to attend a school, particularly when that school is Michigan. As has been said with other things in those types of threads, there is a time and place, and I don't think those threads are the time and place to bash a kids decision because you personally don't like the coaching staff. It's not that it's insulting to the staff, it's that it's highly insulting to the recruit. In my opinion, it's more insulting then saying something like "he needs to work on his foot speed" (just pulled that out of no where, it isn't in regards to any recruit).

Borges: "When this team wants to show up, it can play with anybody."

I left this up for a while in the hope that we would get context, but it never came, and it is becoming another toxic presence given how the comments are going.

Standards and Hope.

I understand and appreciate the effort, but we sort of have another thread calling for sanity / rationality / less sh*t-flinging.

Hope.

See above. The exact same thread. Again, we really only need so many of these before they begin to run together.

Honest question to the board (RE: Season Tickets next year)

It could have been an interesting discussion if it had not been sidetracked by condescension and some insults. Seriously, we can't have that on the board this week of all weeks, and we shouldn't have it on the board at all ideally.

Honest Question thread: I know I was being condensending but it was in response to a poster being insulting.  And his insults were pretty mild (he's a kid I think) so no biggie IMO.  I thought the thread started badly, recovered, went back into the ditch for a bit in the middle but even the person doing the insulting had calmed down and was asking legtimate questions at the end. Just my two cents I wish you would've left that one up.

Have a Happy Thanksgiving.

Schofield's dad comments about offense

No Ace Williams. I really do think that we've made ourselves clear that stories written by unbalanced high school students with an axe to grind have precisely -1,000,000% credibility. I am starting to think temporary Bolivia is going to happen if these posts keep showing up.

bouje13

It's only the 13th. He's on a Doctor Who like pace.  Though we can probably expect bouje14 a lot sooner.

I don't even dislike the guy. But one right after another there were F you for thinking this about Brian followed by an F Brian post. I mean, this isn't Nam, and that's not helping discourse.

You however are slacking. You haven't had negative points for ages.
