Moderator Action Sticky #3

Submitted by Brian on

Hello. The previous mod action sticky was cumbrously long so this is a new one. What this thread is for:

This thread is an ad-hoc way of tracking what threads and comments get removed. Mods that remove a thread should post the title here with a brief reason as to why the thread is gone.

NOTE: if you leave an irrelevant comment in this thread it will be deleted.

Update: There's now a Mod Action Sticky IV.

So, a thread about a college football game can't stand?

As one of the people who falls into the group termed "head cases" by one user (rightfully so on game days), the thread which this thread mentions was locked per board policy. As for the informational portion, it was left up so those who were curious as to what might happen to this game could be informed.

Also, the OP will not be creating threads for a while.

Mgobloggers I need your help with a question

I hope that no one minds if I am "that mod" and say that a question which required a relatively simple calculation and minimal research to answer precisely does not need to have a thread. Thank you to those who pointed the OP towards the proper methodology.

Already a Bluitt thread where your opinion can be written like a few threads down. Nothing about this opinion is so important it deserves a single-name thread.

Hypothesis: all threads that are just a guy's name are either badly titled news about the guy (just put the news in the header--we're not HuffPo here), or snowflakes.

I thought about it for a bit, but we'll stick with the one that was created previously even though it is not at the top of the page right now. Sorry about that, M-Wolverine.

Some kind of little paring knife would yield some worthwhile discussion, but this was a blunt cleaver.

If someone wants to make the effort to compare some statistics, talk nuanced strategy or do anything else to bring new information to the table about any potential staff changes that would be welcomed with open arms. Throwing out Cam Cameron's name and asking "him or Borgess" isn't any better of a thread than asking whether Michigan should go after Ron English to replace Mattison or Mike Hart to replace Fred Jackson.

Can we institute a point penalty or some sort of penalty for the inevitible "Fire Borges" thread that we seem to get every week.  I don't mind it, if as you said, they have some sort of analysis in it or something.  But it seems like we just keep getting this threads every week.

(I also think the point requirement for threads being raised up to 500.  But maybe I just like that because I have 500+ points)

Banned, then back as Athensof.., then back as something else, and now this. I think Brian even banned him the first time. He comes back and acts "normal" then starts getting all negative and insulting everyone because he can't help himself.

Late Night game/open thread

I totally understand that it is maddening to navigate the open threads when they get lengthy, and if we need to perhaps institute something like we have with the Snowflake threads, we can definitely talk about ways to do it.

Also, in reference to a certain problem referenced a few posts above this one - the source of the problem should not be a problem for a while now.

OT: Archer wins the internet

As funny as "Archer" is, I have to side with the "No OT" rule on this one. Given the directives we have, it is a bit beyond the scope of the board during the season. I do not, however, fault the attempt to promote a funny show though.

Sorry about that.

John U Bacon with an actual possible solution to $$$

This was covered recently in a thread called "Freshman Ineligibility", as I recall. Interesting article all the same, however. If anyone else sees it, I would recommend it.

Are we this stupid or are we that bad?

Please save these things for the snowflake threads, which will be posted when appropriate. Halftime is not appropriate, and it looks like tight management of threads will be the rule tonight.

I know everything is imploding, but Clown Sauce needs to go to Bolivia and the Pass Interference thread and the Coaching failure threads could probably go, too.

Complete Coaching Failure

The other thread at lead used the proper nomenclature...almost.

HOW ABOUT THAT PASS INTERFERENCE CALL?

I was expecting the blizzard.

Fire Borges thread

Even reactionary claptrap goes in the snowflkae thread. Sorry to be short with people.

Calm eyes, enraged heart

Snowflake.

O'brien>Hoke

Thanks to a user with the right idea if wrong words, we have a thread for this.

Hoke...not borges

Snowflake.

No different than RR choking to PSU in 2010

Snowflake. Also, terrible comparison.

Completely Rational Complaints

A valiant effort, but please, for the love of someone, snowflake thread.

The Official Fire Al Borgi thread

Snowflake, also this OP - and possibly a few others this evening - will not be creating threads for a time.

Mod Nazi's

Thanks for the compliment. User gets his wish.

Yeah, I'm not too fond of the responses to that either. That's a situation maybe best left alone--every discussion of it ends up trivializing it in both directions at the same time and I think the people involved deserve better.

Maybe everyone needs to sober up and come out swinging tomorrow. Gonna be a long night around here and I pity the mods.

Another asking for a ban. Protip: post your opinions in the existing appropriate thread and you won't get "censored". Taking away thread posting privileges for blatant snowflake violations the rest of the night.

Serious Question: If not Borges, who's available?

I might get flack for this, but this could have easily been in the coaching snonflake thread. On the upside, only one new thread during my four-hour power nap is a good sign that the strategy of aggressive management after losses seems to work well enough for a blog.

Official Fire Darrell Funk Thread

I don't see this going anywhere constructive, and it really does fall below the "Snowflake Threshhold". Complain away - there's a lot to discuss - but do so in the places provided.

Coaches that only coach one side of the ball

Either the coaching snowflakes thread or the newly created Sunday Snowflakes thread will do.

Heart vs Mind what are they telling you about the rest of the season right now?

There is already a thread for revised predictions, or you could have gone with the Sunday Snowflake Thread. Sometimes, I think I am not making myself clear on policy here.

Official "Sports are dead to me" thread

On further reflection, this is something that probably could have been covered in one of the snowflake threads (probably the Sunday one), or maybe more appropriately, in the thread about stepping back from sports to improve well-being. Either way, I don't think we need another thread for the traditional reactive venting.

MS Shamepaint Week 7: Take the pain and apply it where ye may

I am guessing there was something to see here, and now that it is gone, I am also guessing that there may not be much point in leaving this thread up. If I am incorrect, do let me know here.

I posted this in the thread dedicated to this, but I haven't seen it corrected, so I'll post it here. It appears that the reason that comments are getting cut off is that JimBobTressel has an HTML comment start tag (<!--) in his signature. This is probably from copy and pasting something from another site. If you remove this, it should start displaying comments in the threads again. Send me an email if you need anything clarified.

Just reading the posting history, obvious troll. Here three weeks ago, right after the Akron game, running the team down.  Then disappeared until the PSU  game and dropped in again to do the same. If a mod would  just bother to take a look, we could take out some trash...http://mgoblog.com/users/nelzq

Biggest Individual Disappointment this season?

I might get flack for this, but there are plenty of places where this could have potentially gone today alone, and I think that even beyond that, there are numerous threads on the first or second page where this would be more than covered. We can only have so much mostly redundant bitching on the first page, folks.

results in no action? It's not a good reflection on MGoBlog, the mods, or Brian that MrRager is still allowed to post here after saying that about Funk.

It's no surprise to me that things are like Lord of the Flies around here now.
