Moderator Action Sticky 2015

Submitted by Seth on

What moderating looks like on the back end.

New season means new sticky, since these get cumbrously long.

What this thread is for: It's an ad-hoc way of tracking what threads and comments get removed. Mods that remove a thread should post the title here with a brief reason as to why the thread is gone.

NOTE: if you leave an irrelevant comment in this thread it will be deleted (see: "cumbrously long").

Before you look for your thread:
1. Was it offensive/political/off topic?
2. Did it link to Drew Sharp, something Mike Valenti said, or Ace Williams?
3. Is there another thread in the last few days on the board that addresses the same topic?

Hall of Stickies Past:
The first, the second, the third. the fourth.

Great Moments in Moderation:

Not salvageable after all the moonlandingdotgif and IBD comments, but if someone wants to post the Herschel Walker/Sam McGuffie story from ESPN with a different title they should go for it. Cool little read about bobsled recruiting.

Bold prediction about Dantoni leaving Sparty based on recent decommitments.

This one isn't going all that well for the OP, but yes, Dantonio to the NFL would be a pretty bold prediction.

Way OT: Car with body inside, both missing since 2006, was visible on Google Maps

EDIT Super Freakin OT: Risk Strategies

As we have basketball tonight and football tomorrow, we'll clear out a little space to keep more relevant content up.

Anywhere to watch the game on the moon?

The Dublin one can stay as it was a legitimate question and sadly the status of the Bar Locator is a known issue, but let's try to limit these to maximize football content.

OT: Connor Cook Injures Throwing Shoulder

Except he's back in for the time being.

#Chadtough has a very similar feel to Bo's Passing in 2006

I am not sure this is the most apt comparison (and the crowd spoke on this as well), but I get what the OP is attempting to say, I think.

Big Ten SEC Challenge in football?

Like many topics, you have to get up rather early in the morning to be the first to post on MGoBlog. Actually, you may have to monitor the Internet constantly and forget sleep to do this.

Welcome Buckeyes

This one didn't seem like it was going to go much of anywhere, and there's plenty of other football news / views that covers this topic on the board right now.

Make sure this stuff gets moderated immediately. Boliviating the OP. Talking shit to a rival is one thing but a thread just to call all fans of the rival losers is a bad look.

But I've been a poster and member here for years, with no bad history, a pretty good history of being upvoted, and this post isn't racist, sexist, or any other "ist." I would ask you kindly to let me off with a warning, and restore some points--it's not like I have demonstrated past problems or am new to the blog, I love the blog , love commenting, and most of my posts contain actual rationale. Thanks in advance for considering this.

Thanks for replying here '87. I did consider you've been a fine member of the community for a lot if years but it was also a really bad idea for a post that caused some problems for us as we are trying to collaborate with some good OSU fans on this week's content. The points will come back on March 1, and I didn't set you back so far that you can't get back to plus before then. You can still reply but I thought it fair to make you earn your way back to being able to start threads after that.

Hello: Jordan Elliott

You know, I didn't post the other deletions here thinking maybe people would assume that news like this does not escape the notice of the blog basically the moment it happens, which was yesterday in this case. I was wrong.

Goodbye: Jordan Elliot Decommits Due to an Embarrassing Amount of Hello Posts on Mgoblog

The next person to post a "Hello" thread for this might very well be shamed appropriately.

Jordan Elliot has scheduled in-home visit with Texas

Nice try indeed.

Jordan Texas schedules in home Elliott with visit!

Unexpected. That might have stood in a slower time

What is clear is that the current state of the board is such that if we wrote a paper, we would have some very insightful stories indeed...

Just curious, where is the line on personal attacks against players, and is there a double standard for non-Michigan players? That Connor Cook thread is full of personal attacks, unsubstantiated rumor mongering about sexual assault type actions by Cook, and just general nastiness towards a human I bet 99% of posters here have never met, including hoping for injuries against Cook. And it's all allowed to stay, with no repercussions for any of the worst posts? I've always thought the blog, for the most part, has maintained a solid relationship between diehard fan and professional reporting, but does the professionalism and general human decency go out the window as soon as it involves non-Michigan?

greater vigilance for this in the future. Moderating all comments is really too hard; for the most part things like that will get negged a ton and if the thread is devolving we lock the thread. If there's a particularly bad offender, note them and the mods will look into it.

Answer to "how to sneak this by the mods" is apparently mundane Christmas shopping that at least one of us is already incredibly sick of.

Actually, LSA has a wife and kids so I'm assuming he's even more sick of it than me, but I could be wrong.

What would it take for you to lose faith in Beilein?

Embarrassing

Neither of these were going terribly well. Also, the crowd pretty much spoke on their continued existence.

Spartans gonna spart

It was indeed ESPN that appropriated Jack Harbaugh's "Who's got it better than us?" in this case, but the source of the tweet posted by the OP plus the thread title helped to mischaracterize the content enough to the point where this one was beyond salvage.
