Moderator Action Sticky 2014

Submitted by Seth on

New season means new sticky, since these get cumbrously long.

What this thread is for: It's an ad-hoc way of tracking what threads and comments get removed. Mods that remove a thread should post the title here with a brief reason as to why the thread is gone.

NOTE: if you leave an irrelevant comment in this thread it will be deleted (see: "cumbrously long").

Before you look for your thread:
1. Was it offensive/political/off topic?
2. Did it link to Drew Sharp, something Mike Valenti said, or Ace Williams?
3. Is there another thread in the last few days on the board that addresses the same topic?

Hall of Stickies Past:
The first, the second, the third.

OT: You say Jim, I say it's John

I don't know that this covers anything that hasn't been covered recently - several times this past week, in fact, not to mention the past month.

An Open Letter to Coach Hoke

Kind words, but I think this sentiment has been expressed in enough threads. Also, it doesn't appear that folks are in the mood at the moment.

An article Hackett should read and follow

Not exactly revolutionary, in the end.

Can we think about banning the Joke-CC thread trend?  There were a couple funny ones a month or so ago when the trend started (the original Ron Zook one was fantastic), but now they're just lazy half formed jokes that contribute nothing to the board.

Yeah, this is getting a little ridiculous and the quality is spiraling downward. In fact....

CC: Al Borges

Yeah, no.

CC: Rich Rodriguez

Yeah, if you're going to post a terrible thread and then be condescending while doing it....no.

Resolved: No More CC Threads

We're on it now. It is getting out of hand a bit, but do point these out in the Mod Sticky.

CC: Rick Grimes

Funny, but we are going to try and curb this a bit.

CC: The Future is Near

Non-specific speculative CC threads could probably stand to be minimized too for the board's own sanity. I think people are becoming worn on these as well.

Niners unraveling

This could easily have fit into the existing Thursday NFL thread or the daily Harbaugh thread. I know there is a fair contigent of the blog that is highly invested in Jim Harbaugh as the potential coach here in Ann Arbor, but let's not go overboard with threads, please.

Last year.......

Probably better as a comment in another thread somewhere. This does not really have the steam to make it as a thread, I believe, since it only restates Gardner's passing stats from last year's Ohio State game without further analysis

Just a little trimming....

Devin Gardner Pride

This has its own thread already, posted sometime yesterday evening. Nothing wrong with it, of course, just simply redundant now.

Anyone Else Worried?

Not sure that this will go all that well. There doesn't seem to be much reason to worry yet.

Jim Harbaugh Watch: Day One

We'll get right of this one even though it came first  - the other one covers the specific development mentioned here and provides a link to the article. Strategic move here.

LSAClassOf2000

Happily, please delete this

Let's not go with the word of a BTN wrestling analyst when it comes to football coaching decisions / non-decisions. Also, take into consideration that the dude is an MSU alum and might be doing his duty when it comes to trolling.

CC: Possible Extension For Harbaugh

This was a point of discussion in another Harbaugh thread.

Some CC threads that I don't think we need....

CC: John Beilein

CC: @FauxPelini

We've done OK so far, but again, let's try to limit ourselves to the realm of actual possibility at this point.....or show spectacular wit.

Schefter says Harbaugh is more interested in staying in the NFL

This was already on the first page of threads. As a reminder, if it has been a couple hours since the article was made available, chances are it is already on the blog.

Gregg Henson Disagrees with Schefter

Hey, the formatting is retained from the cut-and-paste. Neat.

Anyway, Gregg Henson - not diary-worthy or indeed, by rule, board-worthy generally.

Mike DeBord in charge of our football program?

I am sure Hackett made this clear - "football administrator". In other words, in administrative charge and nothing more until a new coach is found.

Hackett Job

I admire the OP's bravery for posting the dissenting opinion, and while I tried to clean this up a bit, it is far beyond saving at this point short of starting over and posting anew. Also, calling the thread "Hackett Job" probably didn't set the right tone for what the OP intended, I assume.

CC: CBS Sports On CC: Harbaugh, Miles favorites

There are two threads with the same or similar information up already, so we'll take this one down for now. Let's try to keep the odds discussion in those threads to save space.

Letter from OSU Acknowledging Devin Gardner's Class Act last Saturday

ALready posted earlier today. Great letter and the sentiments expressed in it are shared by all of us, I think.

Bad news/Good news

The "Tressel To Nebraska" rumor is being debunked by just about everyone connected somehow to Nebraska football as well as other sources. Actually, even Tressel himself once mused that he probably would not coach again, I believe.

Colin Cowherd Speculation

CC: Colin Cowherd

What is your best guess as to Cowherd mystery

So much Cowherd...and the "Best guess" is more or less in line with what was happening in the initial thread.

The Huge Show In GR is

Try again with title, content, etc...

I have a feeling this could be a daily event for a while, but we're going to do some CC purging to keep other content or more substantive CC mateiral on the board, so if your thread gets deleted and you feel shorted, remember that this is not necessarily an indictment on content:

CC: Papa Smurf

CC: Faux Pelini gives Mike Riley advice

CC - Would a Harbaugh to Michigan hire be bigger than Meyer to OSU? - (Hypothetical Thread)

CC: Steve Addazio

CC- John "Doc" Holliday

CC: Hoke to Colorado State?

CC: Jon Gruden, Mystery Candidate?

CC: Adam Gase

Someone brough up an excellent point, and I think we should try to adhere to it as much as possible - let's try to limit these to ones with actual articles / tidbits behind them. Part of that, in my opinion, is that now that we're fully into serch mode, names like this aren't even being discussed. For example:

CC: Mike Tomlin

cc:Gary Pinkel

"I know someone" is not quite the standard we're looking for,  I think.

CC: Assemble your staff

I've been meaning to address this - "CC" should just be for coaching change items

CC: Update on Harbaugh from Football Scoop

There's a lot about this that seems patently ridiculous. Also, we're going to have to start clamping down on FootballScoop, it seems.

Rolling Stone apologizing for rape story - says information casts doubt on story

The last one was taken down, though not by me. I will assume whoever did would have removed this one as well.

CC -- Todd Graham

We could do worse, but vague reports without substantiation just aren't going to cut it as CC threads at this juncture.

Section 1.5

December 6th, 2014 at 12:57 PM ^

I simply cannot resist asking, and I am amazed that no one else has:

How does the Moderation team explain leaving up the original 150+ post thread from when the Rolling Stone story first came out (replete with all manner of presumptions that the "Jackie" story was true and that the fraternity members were thug rapists), but removing at least two threads in the last 24 hours calling attention to the fact that Rolling Stone is now retracting its publication of "Jackie's" account?

I fear that your response will be to remove the original thread, "OT: UVA suspends all fraternities after Rolling Stones [sic] investigative report on gang rape."  That seems like the worst of all worlds.  Letting the original allegation off the hook and ignoring the story after the core narrative is debunked.  If "politics" is the problem, why was the original thread not "politics"?

I'll take my answer off the air.

Detroit News: does not look good for JH comimg to UM

As this article is essentially a retelling of the same NFL analysts which garnered separate threads yesterday, this is a duplicate post, more or less. You're going to have to be quicker than that when it comes to Harbaugh news in the coming days / weeks now.

CC: Huge Smoke Screen??

Typically, a thread which is a reiteration of something which was a comment in another thread is a non-starter unless there is a well-developed support (or disconfirmation, depending) coming along with it.

Why is there an MSU advertisement on MGOBLOG?

I think this one was dealt with thoroughly. Thanks you, everyone.

MBB Snowflakes aka We cant Have Nice Things aka Hurry the F*** Up 2015.

We'll run with the first snowflake thread for this....game.

Gregg Henson reads Mgoblog, says ignore message boards and NFL writers, still saying Harbaugh on WBBL in Grand Rapids

No Gregg Henson per general policy.

December 10th, 2014 at 9:00 AM ^

although if I were looking for a distinction, one of the two threads seemed more macro, while the EMU snowflake thread was, in theory, more specificly game related.

But all those posts are just gone once a thread like that gets zapped, right? That's too bad. There was a coherent thought or two in that thread.

LSAClassOf2000

December 10th, 2014 at 9:10 AM ^

Unfortunately, there's no way to merge threads or that it precisely what I would have done. On rare occasions, particularly good thoughts from a thread which is about to go get salvaged, but it is a process of creating a post, editing all the pertinent information like username, timestamps, etc...and then posting it. Part of this as well is just a space management thing. I can access the threads through my own browsing history (I can see dead threads), so I'll give it another read and see.
